Fantastic Sunset View, Privacy, Lakefront, Private Dock, Free WiFi, Cable-Mercer

****NOTE #1: If the week you are looking for is not available on this The Hemlocks Retreat cabin please check our other cabin. View of lake from every window, gas fireplace, comfortable seating and incredible sunset views - VRBO# 895375****

Unwind and enjoy the wonderful lake views from our fully restored and thoughtfully updated lakefront cabin at The Hemlocks Retreat in Mercer, WI. Towering hemlocks, soaring eagles, wonderful sound of loons. Mercer, WI is the loon capital of the world.

Flat screen TV in living room with DVD player.

Immaculate cabin just steps from the lake set on the tip of our private point. The Hemlocks Retreat is comprised of just under 400' of lake frontage. This wonderful location affords both sunrise and sunset views and your own private dock/pier.

Fully updated but maintains the feel of a classic northwoods cabin. We spent years restoring Lakewood Upper at The Hemlocks Retreat to provide a place of respite, renewal, comfort and relaxation. Lakewood Upper and the Hemlocks Retreat grounds are completely pet and smoke-free.

If you wish to stay connected while visiting with us, no worries, cell service is excellent and we include free secure wi-fi and cable (both that work as they should!)

The Hemlocks Retreat is managed by its owners, David and Angie, who look forward to sharing The Hemlocks Retreat and it's peace and seclusion with you.

****NOTE #2: VRBO has changed the rules so that only current VRBO guests can review our property. We have many repeat VRBO customers that book with us directly after their first stay as they feel they no longer need VRBO protection. It is frustrating for both of us but that is why you will see fewer current reviews on our site as they are not allowed by VRBO to review.

Here are a few comments from past guests of Lakewood Upper:

Adirondack chairs were strategically placed on the property to view sunrise and sunset - along with chairs on the deck. It's so nice to have a dock and be so close to the water. Thanks for making this a special vacation."

Family vacation

Our cabin on Mercer Lake was perfect! The owners were so accommodating and helpful. Thank you Angie and Dave! They even had a little compressor they brought the next day to blow up our floats for the lake. Cabin was super clean. Loved the huge deck that faced the lake. We had our own private pier. Saw lots of wildlife and fishing was good! So much to do when going to town as well. The surprise balloons/sunglasses for the kids made it even more special along with the fresh flowers. Loved it! Can't wait to go back someday!

Cozy and Relaxing

Great place to get a way for a stay on the lake. Town of Mercer is just a quick bike ride away. The lake offers entertaining fishing, but not much size to the pan fish. Bass and nothern are plentiful but again...not much for size. Wasn't able to do much swimming and floating due to weeds and rocky lake bottom. Weeds pretty much consume the entire lake. The cottage is kept updated very well and offers geat accomodations. Host takes pride in making sure your stay is safe and enjoyable.

Outstanding Comfortable Cabin on a Beautiful Lake with Tranquil Surroundings

My mother, sister, daughter and I spent a week in this beautiful cabin in mid-July. It was so comfortable and clean, and was equipped with everything we could possibly need, especially in the kitchen. Although we rarely used it, the high speed internet was ridiculously fast, perfect for those who need to be plugged in for any reason. The best part of our stay was the lake. We kayaked daily and were greeted by loons, curious muskrats and turtles. The lake was quiet and tranquil, perfect for fishing. We also sat often on our own private pier. Angie, our host was available in minutes if we needed anything. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone and hope to return again.

Hidden Gem!

This was our second stay at The Hemlock Retreat and we could not have been more pleased. The cabin is tucked away in a gorgeous location, extremely clean, and soo relaxing. The outdoor balcony faces the lake and we thoroughly enjoyed the view. The owner, Angie, is so very helpful and available for any questions you may have or anything you need. All of the beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is perfect for making family breakfasts before a day of water sports. Thank you for the wonderul family vacation in such a peaceful setting.

Absolutley Fantastic Stay

We had an amazing time at the Hemlocks Lower Cabin. The cabin was immaculate and very inviting. The owner, Angie, is amazing! She met us and showed us everything about the cabin when we got there. I would highly recommend staying at this location. We enjoyed all the wild life and the relaxation of the lake.

You will love this cottage

Nothing but a positive experience from the initial messaging to our return home. This husband and wife team put love back into these cottages to give you the feel of what it was like in the earlier years, but with every amenity that you are used to at home. You will have it all. Angie has missed nothing in her preparation of these cottages for your use. And if you need it, she probably has it available. I was amazed at the level of detail I found.... Even a little sewing kit if you have an issue.. Now. The location is great. Easy to get to. The cottage was fantastic. The views are million dollar... We saw Eagles, listened to and watched the loons, caught fish. Relaxed. Utilized Angie's extensive knowledge to sample some of the best locations for dinner. The "up north"weather was just what we needed after the hot midwest summer. This is definitely a place that you can recharge at, and go home wanting to return. Thanks for such an enjoyable week

Cozy, peaceful getaway!

From our first communication with owners Angie and David, we knew we were in good hands. All was organized and efficient. The cabin is lovely, immaculate, and nicely decorated. We loved having a private dock where my husband could fish any time and a nice big deck with beautiful views. We were looking to unwind and not do too much, but the cabin is close to lots of activity, too. The place is well stocked and the owners were happy to help and answer any questions. We did not want to leave! Highly recommend.

Wonderful Vacation Spot

As always, Angie was wonderful to work with and the house was everything we desired and more! The view from the Upper is beautiful and sitting on the deck is SO peaceful. We saw loons, an otter, and tons of dragonflies and beautiful butterflies. Fishing was amazing and the sunsets were unbelievable. Can't recommend The Hemlocks enough!

Very peaceful and quiet! A great place to unwind.

The views were nice and the cabin itself is modern and updated. One of the nicest ones we’ve stayed at over the years in northern Wisconsin. Highly recommend it for a vacation getaway.

Outstanding spot

My wife and I had a great time. This property is exceptionally clean. My wife and I asked ourselves, "...are we the first people to ever stay here?" The owner was a great host and made herself available when asked and went above and beyond when we had some trouble with our boat trailer. The loons, eagles, deer, and beaver (I think) were all very active and it was fun to sit out on the pier early in the morning, drink coffee, and read. People in the town were friendly. Enjoyed dinners at the Cranberry Inn; which has been remodeled, as well as Little Bohemia; which I thought would overplay the gangster theme, but had good food and service. Didn't want to leave and look forward to our next opportunity to visit.

Clean, comfortable and great location!

This cabin is perfect for anyone who is looking for a balance of relaxation and a variety of fun activities. In the mornings you can drink your coffee on the beautiful deck overlooking the lake, as the loons call and an otter plays. In the afternoons we spent time on the lake kayaking or fishing (great fishing lake), 9 holes of golf at Tahoe Lynx (less than 10 min. away), Go-carts and mini golf in Minocqua with the kids, evening music at the Pines and so much more! There are plenty of good restaurants in the area. We chose Little Bohemia, Around the Corner Pub and the Great Northern, and had good food at all of them. Breakfast at Voss' Lodge is a must if you are interested in the history of the area. Otherwise cooking meals and grilling right at the cabin is a great option, as there is everything you can possibly need right there in the kitchen, and Snow's carries a great variety of groceries, beer and wine. This was my 4th Airbnb/VRBO this year and these proprietors have it down! If there happens to be something they haven't thought of (which I myself didn't encounter) they make it clear from the beginning that they are more than happy to assist you. Stay here. You won't be disappointed.

Calm and beautiful

Our stay was a week of quiet relaxation with amazing comfort. The house was as described as well as the photos. Cleanliness of the house and attention to detail gets a 10! Everything with the property was extremely well thought out. Angie was very helpful, friendly, and a lot of fun to visit with. Wolf's Den pizza is great. They make a thin crust, generous amount of veggies and cheese. We had a great time walking the main street of Ashland. Loved Gabriele's German Sweet Shoppe. She makes all the incredible candies, chocolates, and cookies! The ice cream is wonderful, too. We splurged and hired a great fishing guide, Dale Anderson- www.mercermuskiesandmore. Caught enough fish for 3 meals and some to bring home. I have recommended this property to family and friends.

Fantastic

We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in the door! Beautifully decorated and super clean!! Fresh flowers on the table was a welcome surprise! Angie has thought of every detail! Very peaceful and quiet! We loved sitting on the pier and watching the sunset and the cry of the loons! We have already booked again in Aug and Oct! My husband and son caught a bunch of fish and we had a great fish fry!

Perfect!

This cabin was everything we were looking for. Clean, updated, well-appointed, comfortable, right on the lake so great lake views, free wifi even works outside. Watched beautiful sunsets from the covered porch. Paved roads so great for bicycling. Low traffic on the lake was nice as we brought kayaks and had a great time exploring. Private dock. Only a mile or so from downtown grocery and good restaurants but felt like we were a million miles away. Like I said - perfect.

About the host

Hosted by Angie, Owner

Host profile image
As my husband David and I worked to restore the 1940's resort (2 cabins now - Lakewood Upper and Lakewood Lower, once part of a larger resort beginning the 1940's) we knew we had found a special place.

It deserved to be enjoyed again by individuals and families who are looking to return to a simpler time. To enjoy peace and quiet. Eagles above, loons calling from the lake while in comfortable, updated and immaculately clean accommodations.

We look forward to sharing our labor of love with you!

Why they chose this property

My husband and I knew this property was extraordinary the moment we started down the tree lined driveway. Close to town but seems far, far away. We love that it's 5 minutes to grocery store, restaurants and more but you'd never guess when you are sitting on the deck or dock.

Original stand of hemlock trees is where The Hemlocks Retreat gets it's name. 400 feet of lakefront on our own private point provides guests the opportunity to see both sunrise and sunset views.

What makes this property unique

We have a new paved walking and bicycle trail in Mercer that extends 7 miles south of town. It connects with the Manitowish Waters trails. We encourage and welcome all silent sports fans. Our road is paved so bicycling is just one of the many activities to enjoy in Mercer, WI Loon Capital of the World.
