It was a very nice stay. We were up very early because of the coffee shop below. Just know that there is a lot of sound from the bars in the evening and the coffee shop in the morning.
Perfect location! We didn’t use our car for the entire stay, the central location allowed us to walk everywhere. The beds were super comfortable and the furnishings were adorable! You could hear music from the coffee shop below, but not in the back bedroom - and the music was done before bedtime. We would definitely stay here again!
Location was great. Beds were very comfortable. Lots of room to relax. The noise from the shop below was only heard in the main living space and not in the bedrooms. Very convenient to grab morning coffee and breakfast from the shop downstairs.
The actual apartment was nice and clean, with good furniture and things. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the area outside the front door was so dirty and it was a bit noisy for our liking. The homeless people outside the building detracted from the area, although we had sympathy for them. We had a nice stay, though. Thank you so much!
Great location on the downtown mall. Can easily stroll down the mall to great restaurants and shops. The apartment is clean and comfortable with 2 nice bedrooms. The music from the coffee shop downstairs can be heard, but it gave us something to remember about our trip and stay in this beautiful apartment.
In most ways this was a delightful place to stay! We did not really use the kitchen and ate out at the downtown mall restaurants. It was nice to be able to just walk out on the mall. The flat is nicely decorated, bed comfortable. Our main complaint is how noisy it is. I was awaken by the leaf blower on the mall and the loud music from the coffee shop below. Luckily the music was turned down but it does continue all day until closing. So, not a place to read in quiet!
The location is outstanding: the apartment is in the heart of the city. You feel connected to the community, and everything Charlotte has to offer is easily accessible. We were a few doors down from the Omni, but I was happy to walk past the Omni to my urban apartment overlooking Downtown Mall
Delightful flat! Very comfy bedrooms, clean everything, in the thick of it, surrounded by restaurants, bars, shops & open air market on the weekend. Couple things to be aware of - 1. No parking with this rental, no a huge deal but the garage is around the corner so it doesn’t make luggage super fun. 2. You can hear everything in the coffee shop below. 3. There are a lot of homeless people that sleep in the area. 4. The door has a large glass section & doesn’t fell very secure BUT the area is under CCTV surveillance & advertises as such. Overall, GREAT rental, cool area!
Location was great for a girls getaway weekend. Beds were so comfy! Unit was clean. Only downfall was the music coming from coffee shop below, but we used sound machines that drowned out the noise. Would absolutely stay here again.
The Good: place was clean and it was fantastic being on the mall. The full-sized washer/dryer was great and we used it twice during our stay. The kitchen was mostly well stocked, although a baking sheet would be great and the bathrooms were clean with really nice showers. Things to consider: take the host description seriously. This is an urban setting. This means some homeless people on the mall, although they never bothered us, it was something to be aware of. Also, there is urban noise. Most definitely from the coffee shop, starting at 6am, but also leaf blowers at 6am for up to 15 minutes and car motors at 3am etc. if urban noises don’t bother you, this is your place, but if you are sensitive to noise, maybe look elsewhere. We slept with earplugs but that only helped a little. Also, I think the host would do well to replace the sheets. They were clean, but felt “tired” and worn.
Loved our stay. Only downside was noise from the coffee shop below. Music started at 6:30 and ran all day-it was actually as loud in the rental unit as the coffee shop!
The Gryphon is well-maintained, clean, spacious and in a great location on the downtown mall in Charlottesville. It also comes with access to The Common House, which has a great little rooftop bar.
This place couldn’t be more perfect - right in the heart of Charlottesville with all the amenities and space you could want. The coffee shop does enjoy some morning music, but the experience was phenomenal.
The location is fantastic - close to restaurants, music, etc. The down side is the neighboring businesses. The coffee shop, down stairs, starts playing music at 7:00am and plays the music until 8:00 or 9:00pm. A few storefronts down the street has live music until midnight. If you are comfortable with music until this time, then Gryphon is a good fit for you. The accommodations are comfortable and cozy and are ideal for a UVA, wine tasting, or historical weekend.
We loved the aesthetic of the Gryphon! Perfect amount of space for 2 couples in a centralized location right on the downtown mall. We walked to dinner and right downstairs for coffee each morning. Exactly what we needed for our “parents weekend and wine trip!” Would definitely recommend
