Stone Retreat is a two storey traditional house with stone walls and beamed ceilings throughout, providing an ideal setting for creation and relaxation. The stone-paved garden features Mediterranean plants, trees and herbs and offers unobstructed views of the valley and surrounding mountains.
The ground floor comprises a kitchen / dining area, spacious and cosy, with a dining table seating 6; an open-plan room (30m2) offering views to the garden and beyond, with a king-sized bed and a sitting area. The adjoining bathroom is large and well equipped.
The upper floor consists of a large room (50m2) with vaulted beamed ceiling and fireplace, its 6 windows offering views in all directions. There is a sitting area with 2 large sofa-beds, one double, one single, which fold out into beds with solid cotton mattresses; a large desk offers ample space for creative or work-related activities. This room gives onto a terracotta surfaced terrace (35m2) which overlooks the garden and is ideal for al fresco dinners and star-gazing.
The property and surrounding area would appeal to artists, writers, history lovers, hikers and serious cyclists as well as to those who seek tranquillity.

Nice and Quiet!

Loved this wonderful, traditional-style stone house! The owners have an eye for detail and charm. We also enjoyed the goodies they left for us to try! The area is quiet and peaceful with great vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The tips and maps were very helpful. Just wished we could have stayed longer! Thank you so much for a lovely weekend!

Visit of a life-time

The wonderful experience we enjoyed at the Stone Retreat is difficult to express in words. The Stone Retreat itself, its decor, and the views of both mountains and sea were more beautiful than can be shown by photos. The warmth of the hosts (Rosa and Christopher) as well as local community also made us feel immediately welcome and at home. We were overjoyed to be welcomed on our first day by the local delicacies prepared and brought by Rosa and Christopher, and later by the freshly picked fruit and fresh milk brought by a very kind neighbour (Voula). Our stay at the Stone Retreat was truly unforgettable; we hope to have the chance to return one day soon.

No ordinary house

Restored with individual style, quality details and artistic flair. The upper room is spacious, well lit and enhanced by art work. The thick walls and small windows make the downstairs gloomy. Lighting is more to show off the beauty of the stonework than help shaving etc. Like living in a museum. Fittings are custom made and require care not to damage a delicate surface. The main problem is structural. The upper and lower bedrooms are joined by an open spiral staircase (not shown in pictures), affecting privacy. There is no bathroom upstairs so access to toilet is through the downstairs bedroom. Cooking facilities accord with the owners tastes: a bread knife and good pans would be useful additions. Vrousti is a near empty hillside hamlet 20 kms from a shop or restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyed walking down to the church area in the village 1 minute away to feed the very hungry cats.

Erholung pur in traumhafter Umgebung

Wir wurden am ersten Abend, nach einer langen und anstrengenden Anreise, sehr herzlich von Rose und Christopher und einem herrlichen Abendessen willkommen geheißen. Das Haus lag in den Bergen und ließ keine Wünsche offen. Es war mit viel Liebe dekoriert und eingerichtet. Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt sehr genossen. Vielen Dank an Rose und Christopher.

Eine wunderbare Woche in der Einheit von Natur und einem in der Tradition erbauten Ferienhaus

Das Bergdorf Vrousti am Ende des Tals hat uns fasziniert. Das Dorf wandelt sich behutsam von einer ländlichen Siedlung zu einem Feriendorf im besten Sinne. Die grandiose Landschaft mit Tälern zwischen der Gebirgsketten, die Stille, unterbrochen durch das Krähen der Hähne und die Glocken der in die Berge ziehenden Ziegenherden erzeugen eine wohltuende Stimmung. Die Bautradition unter Verwandung des hier vorkommenden Gesteins mit der Sorgfalt des Mauerbaus ist von den Ruinen bis zu den Neubauten erkennbar. Unsere Vermieter haben uns herzlich aufgenommen und uns während des Aufenthalts begleitet. Das hat auf Englisch per smartphone bestens funktioniert. Herzlichen Dank!

Außergewöhnlich schön und beeindruckend

Rosa und Christopher sind besonders liebevolle Gastgeber in einem sorgfältig und mit vielen schönen Details eingerichtetem Steinhaus. Wir sind am Osterwochenende angekommen und wurden von Christopher mit typisch griechischen Osterköstlichkeiten empfangen. Das Steinhaus ist mit vielen individuellen Kunstgegenständen eingerichtet wie z.B. eine handgemachte Keramikschale als Waschbecken. Im Haus gibt es ausführliches Material zur Erkundung der Umgebung. Die Lage des Hauses ist einmalig ruhig gelegen fernab des Tourismus in den Bergen in einem kleinen Dorf. Wir haben es so sehr genossen am Ende unserer Tagesausflüge in das schöne Refugium einzutauchen. Besonders haben wir den Innenhof und die verschiedenen Terrassen mit spektakulärem Ausblick genossen. Sehr erholsam

Wir haben das sehr originell und hochwertig eingerichtete Haus mit seinem wunderschön bepflanzten Innenhof sehr genossen. Wir haben uns überwiegend selbst versorgt, zumal das nächst liegende Restaurant im September geschlossen hatte und die nächste Möglichkeit uns zu weit entfernt war. Die Küche ist sehr gut ausgestattet, so dass wir sehr gerne gekocht haben. Für Naturliebhaber oder Wanderbegeisterte ist das Haus genau das Richtige. Wir haben bei 35 Grad auch den Weg ans Meer gesucht. Bis zu unserem Lieblingstrand waren es 45 Minuten. Wir wurden von Christopher sehr nett empfangen und eingeführt. Die vielen schriftlichen Hinweise im Haus sind hilfreich, ebenso die Tips für Ausflüge. Auch während unserer Aufenthaltes wurden wir mit aktuellen Informationen versorgt, was wir sehr nett fanden. Man kann von Vrousti problemlos Mykene, Epidauros und Nafplio besuchen, direkt vom Haus loswandern, oder einfach vor Ort die Seele baumeln lassen. Man muss nur wissen, es ist ein sehr abgelegener Ort. Uns hat aber gerade das gefallen.

Idylle in den Bergen

Wir haben Ende September/Anfang Oktober wunderbare Tage in Vrousti verbracht. Das Haus, das ruhig in einem kleinen Dorf in den Bergen gelegen ist, ist sehr schön und besonders liebevoll und individuell durch die Vermieter Rosa und Christoph eingerichtet. Der große Aufenthaltsraum mit einer tollen LP-Sammlung und der idyllische Innenhof laden zum Verweilen auf. Vom Innenhof aus hat man einen herrlichen Blick in die Berge. Das Haus bietet auch einen guten Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge, z.B. nach Epidaurus, Korinth, Nemea und Mykene. Der Empfang durch Christopher war sehr nett; die Vermieter waren jederzeit per Email/SMS ansprechbar, z.B. als es um die Vereinbarung der genauen Abreisezeit ging. Wir haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen und uns ausgezeichnet erholt.

Außergewöhnlich schönes Ferienhaus

Wir (Ehepaar um die 60) verbrachten eine total erholsame Woche in den Osterferien im "Stoneretreat" von Rosa und Christopher.Das Haus ist von den Räumen her sehr großzügig, gemütlich, rustikal und mit originellen Kunstwerken bestückt - alles sehr hochwertig und geschmackvoll. In Küche und Bad war alles vorhanden, was wir täglich brauchten, zum Empfang gab es sogar ein tolles(vegetarisches😍)Abendessen inklusive Wein, Olivenöl, Brot und köstliche,selbstgemachte Marmelade. Die beiden Besitzer sind sehr herzlich und hilfsbereit, als das Wlan nach einem Gewitter ausfiel, wurde dies schnellstens behoben. Der Aussenbereich des Hauses - Hof und Terrasse - ist traumhaft, um sich dort bei schönem Wetter zu entspannen, es gibt verschiedene Sitzplätze. Von Vrousti aus kann man sehr viel unternehmen, entweder vom Haus aus zu Fuß verschiedene Wanderungen, oder mit Auto(20 min.bis Argos). Für uns war es Erholung pur und eines der schönsten Ferienhäuser, die wir bis jetzt hatten!

Tolles Haus in wunderschöner Lage!

Absolutes Traumhaus, sehr individuelle Ausstattung mit viel Liebe zum Detail. Christopher und Rosa sind tolle Gastgeber und stehen einem mit Rat und Tat zur Seite. Obwohl das Haus im Ort liegt, hat mal seine Privatsphäre. Wer Ruhe und Abgeschiedenheit sucht, ist hier richtig. Auch die Tipps und Vorschläge der Gastgeber für Unternehmungen in der Region sind absolut empfehlenswert.

Stone retreat is one of those special quality places you will not forget. It has such good vibes. And the garden is so beautifull with the best views The house is convenient and fully equiped. Christopher is a very nice and warm person, he made us feel at home. Vrousti is small and the people make you feel welcome. We went in october, I can reccommend this, since there are not so many tourists in this season. The weather has been very beautifull and the sea warm enough to swim. I can reccommend snorkling above the sunken city, not only the romantic idea of it. There is a fine fish taverne next to it. I can recommend this place for couples and families who can appreciatie good taste, style and a homy quiet place.

Einzigartiges Domizil in ruhiger Lage

Wir waren mit unseren beiden Kindern (12&15) eine Woche im Stone Retreat. Das Haus ist wunderschön und äußerst geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Die Küchenausstattung lässt keine Wünsche offen. Das liebevoll renovierte Steinhaus liegt recht abgelegen in Vrousti - einem kleinen Bergdorf. 2 x am Tag kommen die Ziegen vorbei. Man kann sich an Feigen und Mandelbäumen laben aber zum nächsten Supermarkt oder nach Argos braucht man auch nur etwa 20 Minuten mit dem Auto, zum nächsten Strand etwas länger. Die Vermieter sind sehr herzlich und zuvorkommend und haben an alles gedacht. Es gibt gute Tipps, Kartenmaterial, Beschreibungen und eine kleine Grundausstattung an Nahrungsmitteln. Von den Nachbarn bekommt man nicht viel mit und wenn, dann sind es sehr erfreuliche Begegnungen. Ein Schriftsteller könnte hier sicherlich ein bis zwei Romane vollenden! Uns hat es sehr gut gefallen, ein Besuch im Winter wäre sicherlich auch ganz reizvoll! Alles in Allem: sehr Empfehlenswert!

Fabulous, beautiful, artistic home in peaceful, interesting village

We absolutely loved our time at Christoper and Rosa's beautiful stone home in Vrousti. The home is gorgeous, stone walls beautifully outfitted with wood, with lovely and interesting natural art. Nice personal touches, this is clearly a home the hosts love and have invested a great deal of time and attention in -- and then luckily are willing to share! We relaxed, ate meals at the two patio tables, played with our two kids (age 4 and 6). Everything extremely well sign-posted and worked great, from how the water worked to how to hang the clothesline to helpful info on local spots of interest. Kitchen well-provisioned with dishes and items of character. Nearby towns of Argos and Nafplion are interesting with little shops, nice scale to figure out. The little village of Vrousti is very quiet, we took walks in the morning and evening when we heard the goats coming to and from their yard. While Christopher and Rosa were away during our visit, they were very helpful and communicative by email / text, and Voula (local lady who helps them) was incredibly warm and helpful despite the language barrier -- she generously gave us eggs, goat's milk and produce, along with lots of kisses for our kiddos. This lovely spot exceeded our expectations and remains a highlight of our month in Greece.

Amazing retreat in the Peloponnese

We booked our rental over the winter holiday 12/26 - 1/2 - to avoid the crowds, the heat and take advantage of the kids winter vacation. The stone retreat is amazing! Nestled in a small village near Argos, it is charming, warm and quiet. Winter is the perfect time to stay in this cozy stone house - the central heat works quick and the fireplace is oh so romantic. There is outdoor dining areas that we took advantage of on New Years Day. A great record collection and all the comforts of home. We came with our two boys (7 & 9) and used the Stone Retreat as our home base taking day trips to Monemvasia, Hydra, Nafplio and Mycenae. The longest was about 2 hours away. You could also make Athens and Olympia in 2 hours. Christopher and Rosa are the ultimate hosts - leaving us a hot meal, bottle of local wine and some provisions for our first morning. They also can to our rescue when our rental car died. I am ready to buy a stone house and raise goats after our stay! Of course I’ll have to call Rosa to help me decorate! I’ve been using VRBO for 12+ years in the US and Europe and this was by far the best place I’ve ever stayed with the best hosts! We will be back!

Gorgeous Mountain Retreat

We spent an absolutely delightful week in September at this wonderful property. The location was perfect for the many day trips we took - a short distance to Mycenae, Epidaurus, and Hydra, as well as exploring the nearby Larissa castle and Palimidi fort. We are a well-traveled couple and the villa is one of the most beautiful properties we have ever stayed in. The rooms are spacious, beautifully laid out, and would easily accommodate more than the two of us. We enjoyed the gorgeous outdoor spaces - amazing vistas of mountains and valley at all times of day from the idyllic terrace and garden. We loved the interiors - the many original and artistic furnishings made by the owners, Rosa & Christopher. And we truly enjoyed meeting and getting to know them. It was a privilege to be staying at their property. There is wonderful hiking - one of our favorites just right out our door and through the village, hiking up to the crest of the hills above in the evening, for great exercise and glorious views. We especially loved the village of Vrousti - such a unique place, and wonderful to wake up to the music of goat bells in the distance, each morning. A highlight was meeting Voula, a neighboring goat farmer, who was so warm and friendly - and spending some delightful time with her. Christopher & Rosa are exemplary hosts and such wonderful, interesting people. They met us at the villa and showed us through the property, offering great suggestions for trips, hiking, restaurants nearby (which we loved), and some sights we were not aware of. They checked in with us by phone throughout the week and were available for any questions. Our arrival was later in the day and Rosa so thoughtfully surprised us with wine and a welcome bite to eat. We were so touched by their kindness. We spent 3 weeks in Greece but our week in Vrousti was by far our favorite time of the trip. We are looking forward to returning to the villa next year.

Wir haben Ende Juni/ Anfang Juli 2015 mit unseren beiden (halb-) erwachsenen Kindern eine Woche an diesem traumhaften Ort verbringen dürfen. Alles ist noch schöner als beschrieben. Das sehr saubere und vor allem liebevoll, phantasievoll und hochwertig ausgestattete Traumhaus gäbe ein gutes Objekt für jede "Schöner-Wohnen-auf-dem-Lande-Reportage" ab. Ein wahren Fundort für Naturliebhaber und Innenarchitekten. Alles ist sehr geschmackvoll ausgewählt, bis hin zur die duftenden Wäsche. Das Haus liegt in absoluter Ruhiglage in einem (halb-)verlassenen Bergdorf. Die supernette Nachbarin versorgt die Blumen im tollen Innenhof mit Wasser und die Mieter mit guter Laune und Aprikosen, Eiern, Gemüse und Marmelade aus Eigenproduktion. Dickes Danke auch an die tollen, sehr netten Vermieter. Weil wir erst so spät am Abend aus Deutschalnd ankamen, hatte uns Rosa sogar ein köstliches Essen gekocht. Die Lage des Hauses ist super für alle kulturellen Ausflüge in der Gegend. Im Nachbardorf gibt es eine Taverne und einen Bäcker. Wandermöglichkeiten. sind gegeben. Das Haus ist allerdings nicht geeignet für Familien mit kleinen Kindern. Der riesige Wohn-Schlafraum mit Kamin im OG ist nämlich nur über eine ungesicherte Außentreppe erreichbar. Für den Gang ins sehr stylische Bad muss man am Bett in UG vorbei. Fazit: uneingeschränkt volle Punktzahl. Trotz der "Krise" ein ganz toller Greichenlandurlaub! Wir fühlten uns sehr willkommen.

Truly Special Place!

“Stone Retreat” is a work of art! Christopher and Rosa have created a unique space that allows for a full appreciation of the countryside. They have a beautiful sense of design and have paid loving attention to every detail of the home. The beds are very comfortable with linens that look too beautiful to sleep in! The exceptional shower with a rainfall showerhead is lovely too. The home has two levels that are separate from each other. Our teenage daughters felt lucky to have their own “apartment” and patio on the second level. “Stone Retreat” is also immaculate and full of wonderful surprises. We really enjoyed the lovely basket filled with olive oil, honey, lavender, mountain tea, fresh eggs…that greeted us upon arrival. Also, there is an extensive record collection which brought much enjoyment, and our daughter was thrilled to be able to play the guitar. Rosa also has her incredibly beautiful weaving throughout the house. The outdoor spaces are magical. Potted flowers and plants fill the courtyard. The heather was in full bloom and the honeybees were wild with delight. We looked forward to sharing our meals outside, especially in the evening when the patio lights created a wonderful ambience. We would spend hours just sitting by the table and then would go the upstairs patio to look at the stars. Every day we took walks from the house. We mainly stayed on the roads, but never saw a car. The flowers, interesting insects, and expansive views to the sea were wonderful! It was so nice to walk in absolute quiet, except for the sound of a buzzing insect or goat bell. Christopher and Rosa provided us with maps and lists of things to do. We headed their advice and were never disappointed. They had recommended a beach near the Assini Ruins and we spent three afternoons there. It is a small beach with chairs and umbrellas for rent, so there is respite from the sun. Also, we enjoyed three lovely meals at the taverna above the beach. Napflio is a very delightful town nearby with many great restaurants, historic sites, and a great seawall walk. The nearby village of Kasia is also nice for a good meal--very charming village. Mycenae and Epidaurus are an easy drive from the house too. “Stone Retreat” is truly a special place. We felt so fortunate to be able stay there. Thank you, Christopher and Rosa, for sharing your home and giving us so many wonderful memories. We loved every moment of our stay and hope to return again one day.

A true retreat in the Peloponnese countryside

We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay while enjoying the culture, history and natural surroundings of this area. This is a true home, nestled into a small mountain village, with all of the amenities needed for an enjoyable stay. From the welcoming basket of homemade marmalade, wine and herbs to the information on the house and local attractions the owners have paid attention to every detail. The garden patios are special as are the panoramic views and the tranquility of the site.

The perfect stay

We have just left this property after a stay of sixteen nights. To say we are upset at leaving is an understatement. The house is exceptional, with high quality fixtures and decorations. It had everything we needed and was clean and well-maintained. We are fussy about beds and bedding, but were very comfortable during our stay. The region is brilliant, with both the seaside and the mountains close by. And it's so quiet! The loudest sounds we heard were the goats and goat-herders. Driving to Vrousti from Athens airport was far easier than we expected and wasn't a problem after a lengthy flight. While at this house, we enjoyed visiting the various archaeological sites and eating long lunches in seaside tavernas. At times we had to work, but the good quality wi-fi made this easy. We could not receive mobile phone signals in the village, but could on the road to Argos. Christopher and Rosa were excellent hosts and we look forward to seeing them again in the future.

Wonderful Stay and Welcoming Hosts!

My daughter and I recently spent a week at the “Stone Retreat” in Vrousti. It is a wonderful place for those seeking peace and a glimpse of Greek village life. Chris, Rosa, and their daughter greeted us with a delicious assortment of local fruits and vegetables, olive oil, bread, eggs, and cheese. A trip to the market in Argos allowed us to gather what other food we needed. The owner’s personal touch is seen everywhere at the Stone Retreat – carefully stacked stones make up the house and garden walls, beautiful curtains and wall art woven by Rosa adorn the walls and windows, the house is both tastefully decorated and quite functional. The house is a great retreat for a nap, but if you come in the summer as we did, the outside garden terraces will quickly become a favorite. The terraces were filled with the scent of lavender and there were figs, apples, and herbs to pick. This outdoor “room” has a great view of the valley spread before you. We awoke to the sound of goats’ bells, the crowing of roosters, and the braying of donkeys. Coffee and breakfast on the terrace prepared us for the day ahead. It was very easy to slow down and relax in this pleasant setting, soaking up a bit of sunshine on a beautiful Greek morning! During our stay, we did manage to visit a number of the ancient sites that make Greece famous – Mycenae, Epidaurus, Olympia, Nemea, as well as the beaches near Napflion are all close by. You can reach most of the well-known sites in the northeastern Peloponnese by car within an hour or two. Olympia is a full day trip through the mountains for those who are comfortable with driving in Greece. The nearby village of Karya has traditional tavernas that serve very good food in a nice setting. We enjoyed hiking along the many trails leading from the village. A good pair of hiking shoes/boots and long pants are recommended for the stony paths and the “holly” oaks that are found along the way. Chris and Rosa provided maps, a compass, and walking staffs that proved very helpful. We met several villagers tending their flocks along the trails and, despite the differences in languages, we enjoyed our meetings and the new friends we made. We cannot begin to thank Chris and Rosa enough for their hospitality. We found Vrousti and the Stone Retreat to be a perfect place to stay. If you are seeking a relaxing vacation in this part of the Peloponnese, we commend both Chris and Rosa and the Stone Retreat to you with the highest praise!

Beautiful and quiet

We stayed at Christopher's and Rosa's stone retreat for almost two weeks in april. It is a wonderful place. They put a lot of thought in decorating the house. We immediatley felt at home. When we arrived we found not only two friendly owners, but also some cheese, eggs, bread and a lot of other things. The downstairs of the house was our favourite, eating outside in the sun or inside at chilly evenings. The beautiful shower felt like a wellness resort! We enjoyed playing Christhoper's records (a lot of sixties music) and discorvered some new gems. The two terraces are big and there are a lot of different places to sit and look over the valley. We used the big BBQ to prepare dinner and make a fire. The upstairs is also great with the seating and big fireplace. From the house we made some lovely walks. For instants the one to the nearby village of Karia, with a few taverns on a lovely lunch, dinner or a beer. Christopher gave us some good walking tips and there are a lot of other small goats paths you can follow. On a few of the walks we met the village Sheppard's. Very friendly people. Vrousti is quite and beautiful and you can only hear the birds, one or two cars a day and the bells of the goats. We highly reccommand this place ande the owners are only there when you need them. A lot of privacy and a good place to rest but also walk and visit nearby archeological sites, the Venitian town of Napflion or the beacht.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with the little village of Vrousti while we were touring the Highlands of Argolida by car. What attracted us was the unspoilt aspect of it. Here was a hamlet of old stone houses mostly, with no modern interventions and no tourism. Not even a village shop or post office. The absolute quiet of the place charmed us. You feel that you are very close to nature and especially to the sounds of nature: the sounds of the bells from the goat herds, the bark of a sheepdog, the night sounds of owls hooting and foxes crying. The local people are simple folk, goat herders and cheese makers, and they lead peaceful, traditional lives. For us, it was the perfect place to escape from the noise and crowds of the city; a place to relax, to contemplate and to create.
