The cabin was great - clean, well equipped but we all had trouble finding it so better signage is needed for sure !
It was quiet and comfortable for all of us. Suggestions would be to include a microwave and clarify that there are only 2 full baths because the outdoor showers are only good for summer use. We all had a great time !!! and would not hesitate to recommend to others.
Your hosts are life long Tofino locals who love the simplicity of life in Tofino. Catherine, a retired profession surfer and now surf event director and judge, also runs the grassroots surf and stand up paddle school on the beach at Mackenzie in the surf shack, Tofino Paddle Surf. The original Tofino vibe of this little shop boasts the most passionate and experience team of instructors. From retail, surf, sup and kayak rentals and lessons you’ll find a true beach vibe with everything you would need for a good time in the ocean. Catherine surfs every day and Zak, a carpenter and oyster farmer loves to tend to oyster farm on Mearse Island and continues to love time on the ocean. Inventive and creative, Zak roasts their own coffee, tends to chickens and is always working on improving the rental and the property. Their 3 grown children all live on Vancouver Island and are part of the family businesses. Catherine and Zak designed and co-built the Rancho Vacation Rental, as well as their small home on the 3 acre property. They aimed for functionality for groups and families, simplicity and an eco-friendly vibe with reclaimed wood, solar energy and an ev charger for vehicles.
Why they chose this property
As nature enthusiasts and surfers, the location of Rancho Tofino couldn’t be more ideal. Settled back deep in the forest, surrounded by tall cedars and spruce trees and wildlife, the quiet air invites a relaxed vibe. With the most popular surfing beach, Cox Bay, just a 5 minute walk down the forest path, enjoying the surf every day is as easy as it gets. Sunset walks or beach bike rides are a daily activity. Long Beach is a 5 minute drive to the south and the Chesterman Beaches a 5 minute drive to the north. With the option of an easy walk or bike ride to town on the bike path, the 10 minute drive to downtown Tofino is never an issue. In the summers the free shuttle bus leaves and arrives at the information center just 1 property over from us and makes getting to town or to any of the beaches a breeze. They even transport bikes and surfboards!
What makes this property unique
The simple open layout of the home creates a unique vibe of spaciousness that continues beyond to the forest outside the many large windows in all rooms of the house. The bedrooms with separate decks and entrances each have their hot own outdoor showers. The house was built with families and groups in mind; for relaxing restful vacations, delicious meals together, space to connect and play and ease of storing surfboards and dealing with wetsuits.
