About this property

The Church Retreat Whorouly - 1960's Church, Spacious & Peaceful Luxury

The Church Retreat is a unique holiday property experience! After a day exploring the region you can come back to the peace and quiet of the Retreat to wind down and relax while taking in the stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
The contemporary renovation has seen this former 1960's church turned into a spacious, and peaceful country retreat. The space has been completely transformed. For instance, the former altar is now a cooking and entertaining hub. This central hub overlooks the open living space that is cosy in winter, and light and airy in summer. The modern bathroom features a deep double bath that is the perfect place to unwind.
Set in a relaced rural setting within a small, lovey community who embraces fresh local produce, great local wineries and the convenience of Cellar doors just 10 mins drive away.
Enjoy the surrounding historical towns of Beechworth, Myrtleford and Bright, where you can laze the day away, exploring the markets, festivals and beautiful eateries.
Whorouly is in the heart of the Ovens Valley in NE Victoria. It's a short drive off the Snow Road between Wangaratta and Myrtleford. Whorouly is a small township with a local country feel. You can walk to the nearby cafe for a coffee in the morning or enjoy a meal at the pub for lunch or dinner.
One thing is for sure, the Church Retreat is the ideal location to explore the region and all it has to offer!

UNIQUE PROPERTY
Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The property is beautiful and creatively converted. We had a memorable stay after we bought basic supplies and did some cleaning. Here are some suggestions to enhance the experience:1) define what is included in the starter pack, your offering is below standard2) provide a spare bin liner3) a washing up sponge was provided, do provide dish washing liquid to go with it4) do not restrict dish washing tablets to 4 for a 5 night stay5) add a bin to the bathroom not just the separate toilet6) clean the fridge better there should not be traces of food remnants7) clean the ice tray, it had brown marks, fill it with water8) clean the kitchen drawers, the cutlery trays are stained, we felt compelled to wash all cutlery, dishes, mugs before using them9) large cobwebs by the dining bench and under the small table in the smaller sitting area10) netted door to deck does not shut properly and has holes in it11) the quality of the pillows was basicThe communications were all in writing and very matter of fact. I suggest you consider making it a bit more welcoming in addition to the cut and dry instructions, guests are paying customers expecting hospitality. We travel worldwide extensively are have stayed in many properties. We would rate the location, architecture, location and furnishings highly. Please heed my well intended suggestions, it will improve your guests experience tremendously.

Better than expected
We were so excited to stay in this old church. It looked great in the pictures but was even better than we anticipated. Cosy, comfortable and quiet. Thank you, will definitely be back again.

Peace in the Valley.
Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: 595 Whorouly Road Whorouly. The Church Retreat.Yes - it was a Church - once - but now converted. In a lovely rustic/rural spot in Whorouly near the pub and general store - opposite the footie field. The Church has been renovated quite well. Still some creaks but that just added to the atmosphere/charm.Perfect for walks any time of the day. Two good bedrooms and a good bathroom - with bath. It has a reverse cycle heater in the main area and two convection heaters - as well as a nice little wood burner in the main sitting area - no wood supplied so maybe bring some if you can. We walked about and collected some local wood which worked very well. It is Tank water so don't expect a waterfall in the shower. If you intend bringing kids, I'd also suggest bringing a small heater for the second bedroom - just to take the edge off at night. We found the main bedroom OK. Winter is cold in this area - down to zero or below some days. We found the heaters did the job though - aided by the wood burner for a few hours at night. Bring good PJs and sox for sitting around the fire at night. Maybe some fire starters too ... :}Good undercover parking - well lit if needed - lovely grounds overlooking some picturesque farm land with local cows which come and say hello. A lovely back deck. Excellent kitchen - big fridge, stove, hotplates and microwave. Dishwasher etc etc. All the usual pots and pans - plates etc.We took our little Mio Modo Lavazza coffee machine, and pods, too, which helped. She shop is basic but has the essentials - including the paper. Pub is quirky but enjoyable - lovely people - warm and welcoming.Excellent WIFI and a great little spot to set it up in the old entry area of the Church. The pub is great - excellent menu - ribs, fish (awesome), Parma's - great on Parma Wednesday. Lovely spot to eat on their verandah. But - its the position that counts. Its sort of situated between Beechworth / Milawa / Myrtleford

Vey dissapointing
No care or consideration for the comfort of the guest. EVERYTHING in the premises was supplied to the absolute minimum quantity and standard possible. The cheapest item was evident in every aspect, the market will decide if you can get away with it but i would never recommend or return
