The view is incredible and listening to waves is calming. If you don't like stairs this isn't the place for you since the elevator is not working. Thom the caretaker was fantastic and easy to communicate with. There is no A/C so keep that in mind, it was pretty muggy while we were there and we used all the extra fans we could find. There is a park area on one side of the property that stays pretty busy with people visiting. Kitchen is well stocked.
The view was amazing the location was perfect for doing activities on that side of the island. Our Caretaker Tom provided lots of local information to make our stay more pleasant. The house was well equipped with anything we needed. We left relaxed and refreshed
Fantastic stay. There were severe storms that impacted our travel and the property owner handled it very well. Local property manager Thom was wonderful - available and helpful. Will return!
Very unique property with a spectacular view of the ocean waves against the rocky shore. Our family of six adults had a wonderful time. I accidentally left some personal items after we checked out and caretaker Thom was kind enough to go to the trouble to mail them back to me. The only drawback is there is no air conditioning so it was difficult to sleep on muggy nights unless you don’t mind the wind and the noise from the ocean. Overall a great value and highly recommended.
The property is great. Well appointed, memorable views and an amazing property manager - Thom is helpful, knowledgeable and welcoming. Highly recommend this property as it will always be a wonderful memory for my family and I.
Totally unique property. If you love the sound of crashing waves and the smell of the sea, you’ll be in heaven. The property caretaker Thom is a wealth of knowledge.
Thom, the property manager, was very friendly and helpful. He recommended several places to visit and restaurants that were perfect for our trip. The house was beautiful and had everything we needed to feel comfortable. We actually loved the open-air environment! The views were incredible. We saw turtles and whales almost everyday from the rooftop and dolphins on one occasion. We would definitely stay here again if our travels bring us back to Hawaii.
This rental sits right of the rocky shores of southeastern part of Big Island, adjacent to Waiakahi'ula Beach Park. Views and outdoor spaces are incredible and we loved going to bed and waking up to sounds of crashing waves with the doors open in master bedroom and living room. Woke up early most days to watch the incredible sunrises, spent late afternoons watching the sea turtles feed in cove right below house, and nights watching the full moon and stargazing when clear. House was nicely outfitting with all we needed for our stay and liked being able to park inside garage at end of day. Thom was a great host who provided us with information about the area and made check-in and check-out seamless for us.House could use a little more organization, some updates in kitchen, cleaning under beds, and some electrical work to resolve some issues with fans and lights that don't work, but these issues did not take away from our wonderful stay in this house. Local and tourists come to adjacent park all day for the sunrise, views, history and turtles, but we were lucky enough to get the enjoy this property all day during our stay. We were also fortunate enough to attend the annual Kīpaepae no Waiakahiʻula ceremony during our visit that celebrated the history and cultural significance of this area.We would definitely recommend this house to anyone who wants to experience the rugged coastal area of Hawaii and don't mind being away from the commercial areas of Hilo and Kona.
