About this property

Country Cabin Near the Cowichan River

Discover one of the sweetest secrets in the Cowichan Valley: the perfect place to unplug and unwind. Re-wild yourself in nature by exploring the region's rivers, lakes, trails, vineyards, cideries and farms.

The Old Maple Cabin is nestled within our 6 acre property amongst Dogwoods, Maples, and wildflowers. Marvel at the stars while frogs serenade you, enjoy a drink by the shared fire pit, listen to the river flowing nearby, or simply cozy up in your comfy king size bed in the 7 ft. loft or the sofa bed down below.

The Old Maple log cabin is unique in its charm with a simple yet welcoming interior. Lit by the natural glow of traditional oil lamps and warmed by a cozy wood stove, this tiny log cabin has all the modern comforts while boasting traditional off-grid features. The kitchen area is complete with a small fridge, deluxe propane camp stove, and large bar sink with a traditional hand pump water faucet. The kitchen is well stocked with pots pans, kettle, utensils, cups, dishes and basic culinary staples, as well as local organic ground coffee and tea. The folding table and chairs are perfect for dinning inside or out on the deck.

The private bath house is only steps away from the front door. Complete with a hot water on demand shower, composting toilet, organic shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand soap, to keep you comfortable and clean.

Whether you choose to get lost in a good book, enjoy a local cider or wine on your deck after a day of exploring the Cowichan Valley, walk along the local paths or mingle at the fire pit while listening to the Cowichan River flowing below, we can ensure that the land will help put your body and mind back at ease.

We are as low impact on the environment as possible, collecting rain water and using outdoor composting toilets. Recycling and composting are encouraged. Linens, blankets and towels are provided.

My wife, Paula and I co-live on these 6 acres of beautiful land with our friends & land-mates Dana and Bobby. We have an orchard of apples trees, while cherry, pear, peach, plum and fig trees litter the property. We have some hobby farm animals, including rabbits, ducks, chickens and turkeys. We are here to steward the land and share it with others that have a passion for loving life - free and simple.

Why they chose this property

Our glamping property is located on a very private country road that leads to the lovely Cowichan River. The trailhead for the gorgeous Glenora trail is located a short 15 to 20-minute walk from the property. There is also a playground for the little ones and a large pergola with picnic and BBQ amenities. Glenora Cafe is a nearby friendly full-service corner store offering gas, fresh breakfast and lunch options, as well as a great selection of pastries and last minute meal prep items. The Cowichan Valley is wine country and has lots of vineyards, cideries, and breweries to explore and taste. There are endless hiking and biking trails, lakes, rivers and ocean kayaking possibilities. Downtown Duncan is only 10 minute drive from us and it has a year round farmers market located in the Old City centre every Saturday. There is also a fistful of small towns full of fantastic history perfect for day trips. Make sure to visit Cowichan Bay, Cobble Hill, and the beautiful murals in Chemainus.
