Relax, pull up a beanbag, and soak in the sunset with your glass of wine overlooking Hokianga Harbour and its famous giant sand dunes, or unwind in the spa pool as the sun sets and stars come out. Whether you’re after a cosy winter retreat or a laid-back summer stay, this modern, fully equipped pod is perfect for a couples' escape.

This is a recently-built home with well-equipped kitchen, laundry, and tiled bathroom. The master bedroom features a comfortable queen bed, and is a peaceful space to unwind after a day of exploring or simply soaking up the views.

Guests are welcome to slow-charge their EV or hybrid vehicle using the external power socket beside the stairs. An extension cable is provided.

Please note: access between the living area and ensuite/bedroom is via a covered deck. This design choice embraces the relaxed, indoor-outdoor vibe of Kiwi bach living and maximises space in the living area.

UPDATE (June 2025): we’ve recently enclosed this deck to create a private, sheltered hallway. This upgrade adds both privacy and weather protection, while adjustable louvres let you enjoy fresh air and natural light whenever you like.

Please note the property runs on a rainwater tank and in-ground septic system, so we kindly ask guests to be mindful of water use.

- return the key to the lockbox. Press 'C', enter code then hold the button at the top when closing
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.

Private road in a quiet, rural residential area; respect others and be mindful of how sound carries. Septic system/rainwater tank, be mindful of use.
Do not add any products to the spa. Please shower before use, as lotions/sunscreen/oils/makeup affect water quality. Replace the cover, fasten clips.

Spotless and newly fitted out. Location was amazing on top of the hill overlooking the harbour and heads. Well equipped. So good to have a full kitchen. 3 min drive to oponini. Meals on the deck and drinks in the hot tub. Perfect.

The cozy pod was ideal, we throughly enjoyed our stay. The amenities were fantastic, right down to the brand of soap! We enjoyed watching the rabbits at dawn and dusk from the deck and star gazing at night. Wish we could pack up the pod and take it with us as we travel, it’s wonderful. Thank you for sharing your space.

Blissful Position

We had a wonderful 5 day stay at Kouto Cove. The accommodation was spotless, with a comfortable bed and very well equipped kitchen. It's an idyllic position in an area we know quite well. Omapere, Opononi and Rawene are all within striking distance by car.....the Maori centre, telling the story of Kupe (Opononi), is definitely worth a visit. We will definitely stay here again.

My husband and I are based in Auckland, working full-time in television. We enjoy hosting friends, family and guests on a regular basis. We are experienced hosts who work hard but love to come back to our tidy, blissful space and relax. We hope you will too.

Why they chose this property

The Hokianga Harbour is a special spot, almost like going back in time. We designed the space with guests in mind as a place to escape to. We hope you fall in love with Koutu Cove just as we did.

What makes this property unique

The best part about Koutu Cove is lounging on the deck, soaking up the view. A 7-min drive from Opononi, it's a very peaceful, semi-rural and coastal area on a private road. Breathe in, open the ranchslider doors and feel that wave of relaxation flow through immediately. Our 60sqm dwelling is a cosy spot for two with an emphasis on indoor/outdoor flow. We decided to maximise the open plan living area with a full-sized kitchen, so the only accessway is via each deck. This keeps guests connected to the beautiful outdoor vibes that make the Hokianga so special. On that note, the night sky is incredible for star-spotting.
