I booked this stay for a month. 2 weeks into that month stay, I communicated to the homeowner that I would be leaving town. I did not cancel my reservation, and I fully planned on returning to finish my stay after my week long work trip. When I returned to the home a week later, still with 2 weeks left on my paid reservation, I walked into the home to find someone else had been staying there and checked in. The owner assumed I wasn’t coming back (even though I didnt tell the owner or VRBO to cancel my reservation and that I wasn’t coming back), and the owner double booked the unit. So there I was, standing in the living room of a home I paid a large amount of money for, realizing that I could no longer stay there because it was double booked. This was a very clear violation of VRBOs “book with confidence” guarantee. As I was illegally denied access to a property that I paid for, for a set amount of time. Not to mention all of my personal belongings THAT WERE STILL IN THE UNIT. So the owner never heard from me that I wouldn’t be returning. The owner knew I left a bunch of personal belongings, a fridge full of food, clothing and electronics. And they never reached out to me and asked “are you coming back?”. They decided to discard all of my personal belongings, and book a new tenant. It’s shady, illegal, against VRBOs policies and a beg for money. I’d highly recommend staying At one of the other 100 homes in the area and avoid this owner at all cost. Because it may cost!
