Thoughtfully designed for couples and adults seeking privacy, comfort, and breathtaking waterfront scenery, this spacious 668 sq ft apartment-style suite offers the perfect West Coast escape on beautiful Pender Island.

Relax in the bright, welcoming living room where dramatic floor-to-ceiling waterfront windows fill the space with natural light and showcase ever-changing harbour views. Step outside to your own exclusive oceanfront seating area, furnished with bar-height chairs and a table overlooking the water. Reserved exclusively for Queen Suite guests, it's the perfect place to enjoy breakfast, sip a glass of wine at sunset, or simply watch sailboats drift quietly through Bedwell Harbour while the tide, wildlife, and changing light create a new view every day.

Although the suite is located within our oceanfront home, your accommodation is completely private. You'll have your own private entrance, bedroom, separate living room, ensuite bathroom, kitchenette, private BBQ, and exclusive outdoor seating area. There are no shared indoor spaces. The beautifully landscaped gardens, charming Tea House, and pathway leading to the beach are shared with guests staying in our King Suite.

Had one rainy day where we were stuck inside for a fair chunk and would have been nice to have another chair besides the couch but otherwise a great property.

Beautiful weekend getaway on Pender Island

Susan's place is wonderful for a relaxing getaway. It's clean, cozy and well equipped. The location cannot be beat, with views out over the water. It was also super easy to access the ocean down the steps from the garden, which was a real bonus. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again!

I really just wanted to stay in this place our whole time on the island because the view is so wonderful. Such big windows and you can even see from the bedroom (and no one can see in). The bed was comfortable and all was as described.

Both leading to and throughout our stay, the owner went above and beyond when responding to our queries or being proactive with recommendations. The accommodation itself was very comfortable and as described. A pleasant surprise was the layout of the multi-level asian garden overlooking the water. Because it provides for such a peaceful and pleasant setting, a couple of reclining chairs on the lower level next to the tea house would have been a welcome touch, as an alternative to the tall bistro style sitting. That said, with so many coves and beaches to enjoy on Pender, the island does not lack options. We had not quite grasped that the smaller unit we rented was adjacent to the main rental unit in the same property. This certainly was not an issue during our stay. A very positive experience all around, enhanced by a warm and dedicated host. Attached are some of the wildlife and sunrise/sunset as viewed from the garden.

Many years ago, my husband and I traveled from Montreal to British Columbia and discovered Pender Island almost by chance. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the breathtaking ocean views, the peaceful atmosphere, and the warmth of the island community. We knew we had found somewhere truly special.

Like many of our guests, we love traveling, photography, music, reading, and writing. We believe the most memorable journeys are not just about the places we visit, but about the moments of peace and connection we find along the way.

Over the years, Pender Island has become our own Shangrila—a place to slow down, reconnect with nature, and appreciate life's simple pleasures. It is our joy to share this beautiful corner of the island with guests from around the world.

We live on the property and are always happy to recommend our favorite hiking trails, beaches, restaurants, kayaking adventures, and hidden local gems. At the same time, we respect your privacy, and your suite is completely private with no indoor shared spaces.

Bedwell Harbour is one of the most beautiful and peaceful locations on Pender Island. Surrounded by calm waters, forested hills, and abundant wildlife, it's the perfect place to slow down and enjoy nature.

From Shangrila, you can watch sailboats drift through the harbour, welcome the day with spectacular sunrises, and often spot seals, otters, bald eagles, herons, and other coastal wildlife right from the property.

We're just minutes from scenic hiking trails, beautiful beaches, kayaking, local cafés, artisan studios, farmers' markets, and island restaurants, yet the property feels wonderfully quiet and secluded. It's the perfect balance of convenience and tranquility.

What makes this property unique

Shangrila is more than just an oceanfront retreat—it's a place with a remarkable story.

The property was originally created by an artist who once lived in Hawaii. He shared that he had a vivid dream of a dragon peacefully wrapped around an island. In the dream, a wise guide told him it was one of the safest and most peaceful places in the world.

Some time later, while taking a ferry to visit his parents on Vancouver Island, he caught his first glimpse of Pender Island. He immediately recognized it as the island from his dream.

Inspired by that experience, he moved to Pender Island and built this waterfront home. The winding wooden walkways through the gardens were designed to reflect the graceful shape of the dragon from his dream, and the peaceful Tea House was created as a place for quiet reflection overlooking the harbour.

Today, those beautiful gardens, the Tea House, and the winding pathways remain an important part of Shangrila's character. Whether or not you believe in dreams, many guests tell us there is something truly peaceful and special about this place.
