The house was quite nice, well equipped for a summer vacation, and very comfortable. Nice quiet neighborhood with friendly neighbors. We enjoyed our stay - including the daily parades of wild turkey families through the back yard!
My two friends Glenn and Julie and I so enjoyed staying at Hay Cottage! It's a lovely, well-kept place in a beautiful setting. The accommodations were all splendid and pleasant. Thank you for allowing us to be there; I hope we left it in good shape!
We really enjoyed our time at Hay cottage.
Very relaxing and just good old Maine vibe. Enjoyed the walks to giant stairs each morning. Love the area in general.
Overall are stay was idyllic. The island is beautiful, very calm and felt intimate and homey. The house had a lot of personal character and charm. Most everything you could need was there - stuff for cooking, games, puzzles, picnic baskets, fires, etc. The only issues we had was the smelliness of the tap water which was rather overwhelming and did make it so you didn't even want to shower which when you're going to the beach and swimming in salt water is rather necessary not to mention it just being summertime and hot. We definitely didn't want to drink it so we bought a lot of spring water but that wasn't an issue for us. Though it is good to know so you can be prepared. The only other thing is there wasn't a spare blanket in the entire house. Not such a problem for us as our party of people runs warm. But I know a lot of people get cold at night especially as it would get pretty breezy on the island. So either bring an extra blanket or two yourself if you run cold or maybe you can ask to have extras left for you.
All in all we really had a lovely time and felt very comfortable at the house.
This rental was a great getaway with so many things to see and do. My daughter-in-law & I went on a few hikes, went to The Giant's Stairs, Land's End & much more. The water needs to be addressed though, so much iron in it, it smells alot & you can't drink it, at least there is a Brita filter container you can use.
