YOUR "AU MÉLÉZIN" RETREAT

Built by my own hands with passion, this chalet marries authentic Laurentian charm with Asian artworks from my travels. We call it "Au Mélézin" – larch forest – as these majestic trees surround the property and their precious wood was even used in the construction!

Nestled in a natural sanctuary on a quiet street, the cottage sits equidistant from the village hearts of Val-David and Val-Morin (20-minute walk, 5-minute drive). A perfect island of serenity between dense woodlands and peaceful marshes, where spotting deer and other wildlife is a delightful common occurrence.

Main floor:
The open-concept main space welcomes you with its soaring cathedral ceiling and exposed beams that give the place all its character. The semi-professional kitchen (36" gas range, farmhouse sink, quality cookware) invites culinary adventures, while the gas fireplace creates a cozy ambiance. The master bedroom features the same exposed beams, and the bathroom offers a multi-jet shower, heated floors, and washer-dryer combo.

Upper floor:
A romantic under-the-eaves bedroom awaits with its freestanding soaking tub positioned to admire the treetops. The office space equipped for two with dedicated workstations lets you stay connected in complete tranquility.

Lower level:
The relaxation lounge proudly displays my Thai artworks, a large sectional sofa, and flat-screen TV with Apple TV 4K, all on oak hardwood floors. The third bedroom, with its unique canopy bed, completes the space with a full bathroom.

Outdoor:
The expansive deck features a 5-burner BBQ and spacious dining area with lounge chairs for relaxing moments. The backyard, surrounded by mature trees, provides a beautiful woodland setting. The fire area with outdoor fireplace and authentic Adirondack chairs creates the perfect ambiance for starlit evenings.

YOUR PRIVATE DOMAIN

You'll enjoy exclusive access to the entire chalet, including all outdoor spaces: expansive deck with BBQ, wooded backyard, and fire area with outdoor fireplace.

Parking included:
Three spots are reserved for you in front of the property – two uncovered spaces plus one covered space in the carport equipped with an electric vehicle charger (Level 2).

Private areas:
For your complete peace of mind, only two small storage rooms in the basement remain reserved for hosts (clearly marked). Everything else is yours during your stay: all three levels of the chalet, including the lounge, bedroom, and bathroom on the lower level.

Enjoy your temporary home with complete freedom!

A SPECIAL NATURE SANCTUARY

Between two villages:
Equidistant from the charming villages of Val-David and Val-Morin, the chalet nestles in a peaceful cul-de-sac on a large wooded lot. Neighboring homes respect your privacy, while the backyard offers a true forest clearing experience.

Nature immersion:
Large bay windows facing east open onto an entirely natural panorama: dense forest, tranquil marshlands, and rolling hills. Wake to birdsong in the morning, drift to sleep with the evening chorus of frogs. Visiting deer in your yard add that magical touch!

Prime location:
Perfectly centered in the Val-David–Val-Morin region, you're minutes from Lake Raymond and Val-Morin golf course on one side, the regional park and Val-David's artisan shops on the other. The P'tit Train du Nord trail and Rivière du Nord frame this privileged position.

EXPLORE THE AREA

By car, at the heart of it all:
Reach the picturesque villages and Val-David–Val-Morin Regional Park in just 5 minutes. Family-friendly ski hills Vallée Bleue and Belle Neige also await you within 5-10 minutes. For major destinations: Mont Saint-Sauveur (20 min), Morin-Heights (25 min), Mont Blanc (25 min), Mont-Tremblant village (30 min), and the majestic Mont-Tremblant National Park (45 min).

On foot, authentic discovery:
Val-David beckons just 20-25 minutes away through a charming walk. This artists' village brims with cozy cafés, artisan boutiques, and delicious restaurants. On the Val-Morin side (same distance), discover Ayawan microbrewery and Théâtre du Marais, a vibrant venue for shows and concerts.

By bike, adventure awaits:
The legendary P'tit Train du Nord, a 234-kilometer cycling trail, runs just a few hundred meters from the cottage! Within a few pedal strokes, you're off on your adventure. First suggested destination: Lake Raymond and its inviting beach, just 8 minutes by bike.

SEASONAL COMFORT OPTIMIZED

Winter period (December 1st to April 30th):
Outdoor equipment is stored away for the cold season: BBQ, patio furniture, lounge chairs, and outdoor fireplace. However, the indoor gas fireplace ensures a perfectly cozy ambiance for this period!

Summer period (May 1st to August 31st):
The indoor gas fireplace is out of service (pilot light off) during the warm season. Instead, enjoy the outdoor fireplace and all the deck equipment for your evenings under the stars!

These seasonal adjustments allow us to optimize your comfort and equipment safety according to the weather.

Summer Vacation

New modern chalet in a beautiful part of the Laurentians. Enjoyed our stay. Well stocked house with many amenities. Walking distance to Val David. Frequent deer sightings on the property. On hot days the house can get hot without shades to block the sun. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing carefree vacation.

Wonderful Woods vacation Retreat

Everything was great at this modern cozy woodland chalet. Decor was beautiful and the kitchen was stocked with all appliances and gadgets needed to prepare meals. We stayed three nights and would definitely return again as location is central to many towns, cities and villages. We stayed July2-5 when it was quite warm and unfortunately there is no a/c. The nights were warm as well so we did open all windows to try to cool the chalet. We had a nice visit from the owner who gave us a brief history of the chalet . We would give this a 5 star review and hope to go again.

Adventurer at heart, I often embark on slightly crazy projects! Originally from Gaspesie, Quebec, my biggest adventure was during the pandemic in 2020-2021, when I built with my own hands the chalet you'll discover in Val-Morin... the very house where you'll stay!

Globe-trotter, I regularly stay in Southeast Asia, where Thailand has become my second home. It's during these travels that I found the authentic artworks that adorn the chalet, creating a unique blend of Laurentian charm and Asian aesthetics.

Multilingual writer and interpreter (simultaneous translator), I speak French, English, Thai, and some Spanish. Languages and writing are my passions – I've published several books in French, including "Relief" which won the Emile-Nelligan poetry award in 2012.

I love embracing cultures and creating bridges between them. Your stay will be an opportunity to inhabit my universe, where aesthetics, wood craftsmanship, and travel stories come together. The chalet itself tells this story – built from local larch wood, decorated with authentic Thai art, and designed as a peaceful retreat between forest and village life.

Why they chose this property

Only an hour from Montreal, Val-David and Val-Morin captured my heart for their authentic Laurentian soul. These twin villages struck the perfect balance I was seeking – genuine local culture without tourist crowds.
What convinced me was the community spirit. Val-David attracts artists and creatives, creating a vibrant cultural scene that feels organic, not manufactured. The locals genuinely love their region and it shows – from the passionate microbrewers at Ayawan to the theater enthusiasts at Théâtre du Marais.

The landscape sealed the deal. This isn't just 'pretty countryside' – it's dramatic terrain where ancient Canadian Shield meets boreal forest. The morning mist rising from the marshes, the way light filters through the larch trees... it's the Quebec I dreamed of as a child.

As a writer, I needed a place that would inspire rather than distract. This corner of the Laurentians provides that rare combination: profound tranquility when you need to create, yet rich experiences when you want to explore. It's become my creative sanctuary, and I built the chalet to share that magic.

What makes this property unique

This isn't just another vacation rental – it's a deeply personal creation that took two years of my life to build entirely by hand. Every beam, every joint, every detail reflects artisan craftsmanship that's becoming increasingly rare in our mass-produced world.

The chalet embodies a unique fusion I call 'Laurentian meets Southeast Asian' – authentic Quebec pine construction enhanced with design elements inspired by traditional Thai decor. The name 'Au Mélézin' (larch forest) tells the story: I harvested mature larch trees from our own land to create the terrace, carport, and some interior accents, making the house literally rooted in its environment.

What transforms the space is the carefully curated collection of authentic Thai art and handicrafts I've gathered over years of travel. These aren't tourist souvenirs – they're genuine pieces from local artisans: hand-carved wooden sculptures, traditional paintings, ceremonial objects. Each piece has a story, creating an atmosphere that's both exotic and grounded.
The result is something you won't find anywhere else: a handcrafted Canadian chalet where exposed heritage beams meet Buddhist serenity, where the scent of pine mingles with memories of temple incense. It's my attempt to create a bridge between two cultures I love deeply – a physical manifestation of the cross-cultural philosophy that guides my writing and travels.
