The Church at HAVEN ON HIGH is the perfect retreat for guests who who want to immerse themselves in a piece of Tasmanian history. The 145-year-old heritage-listed building features striking architecture including stained-glass windows, a vaulted ceiling, original hardwood floors, commemorative plaques, and decorative moulding. All booking revenue goes towards restoration and maintenance of these historic features.
The thoughtfully converted church is particularly well-suited for couples and small families.
The Church at Haven on High sleeps up to 5 guests.
From the primary bedroom on the mezzanine level, you have the perfect vantage point to take in the full volume of the church and watch the stained glass windows project colours throughout the home as the sun sets each evening. The mezzanine level has two sleeping areas separated by a dividing wall - one with a queen bed, the other with a single bed. The vestibule on the ground floor contains bunk beds set up like a 'pod hotel', offering a private sleeping space for two - best for children given the small space.
Tucked underneath the mezzanine is a full bathroom, a powder room, and a spacious kitchen equipped with everything you need to prepare home-cooked meals - plus a Nespresso machine to start the day off right. This adjoins the sanctuary, where you will find three comfy sofas facing a large fireplace and wall-mounted TV, a work station, a dining table, and a board games area.
Staying at Haven on High is a restful experience, and we’ve prepared relaxing activities to help you lean into the rejuvenating qualities of the space. We invite you to peruse our collection of books about Tasmania, put on a record, pull out a yoga mat, unpack one of 50+ board games and puzzles, or re-watch your favourite film. And of course, getting cosy by the fire is a must.
Located in the centre of Tasmania, Haven on High is an easy drive to statewide tourist destinations and serves as a fantastic hub for day trips in any direction. We are conveniently located next to the grocery store and within a 5-minute walk of all shops, eateries, parks, and historic landmarks in town.

I’m so glad you made use of the fully-stocked kitchen and fireplace! Family meals by a fire - in a unique and memorable space - are exactly the type of holiday memories we aim to create for our guests.

A unique place to stay. Beautifully outfitted. Very central for sights in central Tasmania. Matt is a very helpful host.
We loved everything about The Haven, Matt was brilliant to liase with, we booked the church and the cottage for four adults, so we could all have our own sleeping space and own bathrooms but we grouped together over a few wines and pate and cheese in front of the open fire in the church leoacious living area. Lived the heated blankets.
Heavenly is how to describe our experience.
Both property’s have everything you possibly need.
Thanks guys

Thank you Deb, we loved having you and it was great to see you were able to utilize both buildings while still coming together for food and socializing. We can’t wait to have you back!
The building was amazing and the bathroom, cleanliness and inclusions were great. This would be a perfect place for a romantic getaway for 2. The problem we had was with the second bedroom (very small foyer space) that housed our boys. It was tiny, got quite hot and was right next to the highway with no insulation or sound blockages. Also, be aware, the stained glass windows are amazing, but do not have curtains so be prepared for beautiful light from dawn.

Thank you for your review and feedback, David. It is certainly a unique building that comes with quirks! We will endeavour to make these aspects of the property more clear in our listing description so it doesn't catch anyone off guard.
Thanks again for staying with us, and for helping future guests know what to expect.

About the host
Hosted by Matt
I am a travel enthusiast, sports fanatic, and bookworm based in Tasmania and Melbourne, Australia.
I also love unique architecture, and this passion led to becoming the proud owner of a heritage-listed church and adjoining country cottage. Sharing these spaces with guests brings me great joy.
Why they chose this property
Tasmania is full of amazing nature, tasty locally-grown food, and kind people. Campbell Town offers a central hub from which to explore the whole state, and the relaxed pace of the country town helps me unwind.
What makes this property unique
Built in 1879, paid for by an ex-convict, used for 90 years as a place of worship with additional former lives as a wool museum, art gallery, and coffee shop... properties don't get much more special than this.
