An awful experience at Retro Retreat
Unfortunately we had a terrible experience at Retro Retreat, which completely ruined our New Years eve experience down in Mornington.The owner advised me just a few hours before check in that the couch was broken and they replaced it with three lawn chairs instead. I was travelling with my toddler as well as my senior parents. It was totally unacceptable to have nowhere comfortable to sit. The entire house is really disgusting. The kitchen is old and full of ants. There is a back room they advertise as a 'games room' although it looks like a haunted house and stinks like animal pee. The furnishings are advertised as retro but everything is from Kmart. The garden is completely untidy with weeds growing out everywhere and nowhere to sit or for kids to play. There were broken plugs on the wall covered up with duct tape, as well as rubbish left from the previous tenants.We REALLY did not want to spend our New Years here but it was impossible to find other accommodation at the last minute. We ruined our evening trying to find somewhere else to go and dealing with unhappy parents. Luckily the owner refunded our booking after discussing the issues with her. I will say that she was understanding and her communication is great. I just think this property needs to be upgraded and cleaned or just taken off this site entirely. It's totally not suitable to be rented out at all.

We understand that you had a bad experience unfortunately due to the issues out of our control. The previous tenants broke the sofa just the day before your stay. Given it is holiday period, it is not possible to find any solution to it. We absolutely did our best and refunded you with a very generous amount as you insisted staying for the night.
As to the general condition of the house, no other guests have commented any issues like what you described. We appreciate that your judgement may have been comprised by the unfortunate situation especially with the stress from your parents. We all know how that feels. Things could have been exaggerated a little. However, we sincerely apologize for the situation. And we believe it has been resolved promptly and in a satisfactory way as you stated yourself.
I am a superhost in Airbnb and the house has been reviewed at 4.8 star on average with most of them at 5 star. It is an old retro house as it was advertised with a fair price. Our goal is to provide affordable accommodation to our guests.
