About this property

Mid Century Cabin in the Redwoods

Located on a quiet street, this 2-bedroom 2-bath cabin is surrounded by majestic old-growth Redwood trees. Relax with a glass of wine on one of two new redwood decks. The sound of birds flapping their wings as they fly overhead is one of the only sounds you'll hear. Inside, enjoy the mid-century architecture and a collection of ever-evolving modern and folk art.

The cabin is our family getaway, our absolute favorite spot, and we offer it to guests just ten times a year. The architecturally striking cabin, the prettiest one in the area, is close to great wineries, restaurants, spas, and hiking. Just as importantly - it's not in the flood zone nor the fire zone.

We know this cabin is more expensive than some others in the area, and it doesn't disappoint. You'll find comfortable mid-century furniture with plenty of modern touches. The grounds are landscaped and bouquets of locally grown fresh flowers are inside. The kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry areas are fully stocked, from spices and butter to detergents and soap, and plenty of paper products. Lots of extras are included - kindling and almond firewood, charcoal for the BBQ, beer & soft drinks in the fridge, ice cream in the freezer, and retro coffee service with a Chemex pourover.

We manage the cabin ourselves and it's a passion project for us. Every detail is meticulously cared for - from the gardens to the linens. We take the time to get it picture perfect, inside and out, for our guests. We've hosted anniversaries, milestone birthdays, and several honeymoons and wedding parties.

Please inquire if you want to bring a pet. We occasionally allow a well-behaved dog, never puppies or other animals. All stays with pets need to be approved with the owner prior to booking.

The cabin's exterior, with a dramatic roofline, has won architectural awards. The inside was recently remodeled, creating an open and inviting living space. We've added lots of original artwork. Skylights in every room - even over the beds and above the fireplace - bring the outdoors in. A huge stone fireplace and an audiophile's sound system make this a cabin to remember. Romantic and cozy for a couple as well as great for young families. (Please let us know if children are coming - we store children's gear offsite.)

We know cleanliness is important to our guests. It's super important to us, too, and to be perfectly honest, we're slightly obsessed with keeping the cabin sparkling clean. You'll notice that carpets have just been shampooed, and windows and skylights are spotless. All linens (including blankets, pillows, and coverlets) are sanitized well in advance of each stay. We don't take back to back bookings.

Sleeps up to two. (Set up as a two bedroom, but the cabin is a legal one bedroom because of the septic system size.) Comfortable beds include a CA King from European Sleepworks in the master bedroom, queen bed in the office, and an almost full size pull out sofa in the living room, which is fine for children or one adult. Radiant heat floors in the bathrooms, central heat, and a wood burning Fisher stove keep you warm inside, as the majestic Redwoods and large front-yard Bigleaf Maple keep the property slightly cooler than the surrounding areas. Custom California Closets, high-end linens and appliances including a Bosch washer and dryer, and floor to ceiling windows throughout.

The two new redwood decks add another 1200 feet of outside space for you to enjoy. On the shade-filled side deck, fern fronds quietly unfold. On the spacious back deck, bordered by red and purple flowers, Anna's hummingbirds are enticed to feed. Each deck has multiple seating options and year-round warmth beneath commercial patio heaters.

Announcing our new collaboration with Bruce Patch Wines! You might not have heard of Forestville, CA, before. (We hadn't either.) With a population of just over 3,000, it's home to vineyards, farms, wineries and a small downtown shopping area. It's wonderfully diverse. On the one hand, you might see wild turkeys meandering down our road, and there's a Michelin starred restaurant in Forestville, too. We're happy to recommend our favorite haunts - many close-by and fabulous wineries and restaurants for you to visit during your stay.

The cabin finally has internet as of July 2023, thanks to Starlink's new technology for rural areas - relying on 4,000 small satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). It's still a rural cabin with plenty of giant redwood tree obstructions, but cell phone service and internet are now available. Starlink has plans to add another 8,000 LEO satellites, so we expect internet service to become more robust over time.

Host profile image
Mark and Elizabeth have been married for twelve years. They have four children - Laura, 29 who was recently married at the cabin; Isabel 21; Chloe, 20; and Zachary, 10. They live near the Golden Gate Bridge in foggy San Francisco. Elizabeth works in Learning & Performance for a cell therapy company, while Mark is a CFO for a tech start up. When not working, they can be found cleaning skylights, chopping wood, mowing the lawn, or growing vegetables in Forestville.

Why they chose this property

We only looked at one property in Sonoma County when we were looking to buy a getaway. We quickly fell in love with the house. We loved the mid century feel, the openness, and the beautiful architecture of the cabin. Every time we're there, we fall in love all over again. We hope you enjoy the cabin and the property as much as we do.

What makes this property unique

The house sits underneath towering redwoods and is cooler than downtown Forestville by about 10-15 degrees. The seasonal creek in the backyard generally runs from November to May, weather depending.
