About this property
200+ private wooded acres to explore onsite, Satellite WiFi, & Pet Friendly
Centrally located for all the Hocking Hills parks or enjoy exploring our private acreage for year-round nature loving . . .this is a great location for all the activities you want to enjoy.
We are just one mile south of Route 56 on State Route 93 and here, you’ll find a convenient setting to explore, sited on over 200 acres of land — in a naturally rough and hilly setting and undeveloped since 1978. If you want to explore our acreage, note that the path up the large hill behind the home is NOT paved and can have deep crevices, wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes. There may be high grass so prepare for that and dress accordingly. During spring and summer the natural brush/grass and wet weather cause quick growth and mowing does occur on a semi-regular rotation, however, it is a "rough" path. Feel free to explore and get lost in nature while there.
The land offers a natural and wooded setting with 2 lakes/ponds (created from strip mining prior to our ownership) along with high hills and the terrain to attract lots of wildlife. Deer, turkeys, coyotes, foxes, rabbits, frogs, snakes, many birds, and pheasants have all been spotted on our property.
For a more maintained path hiking experience, there are several nearby Ohio Department of Natural Resources (Lake Hope, Tar Hollow, and Lake Logan) parks with fishing available are located within easy driving distance mostly about 15-30 minutes by car from our homes. If you prefer excursions in the public parks, we are just a short drive to Lakes Logan, Alma, and Hope along with convenient access to many others including John Glenn Astronomy Park and Wayne National Forest. Public swimming is available at a few of the parks and at the Logan Municipal Pool.
No swimming, fishing, or hunting is available on our property.
A 3-bedroom, 2.5 bath home is fully furnished and is located convenient to Old Man's Cave, John Glenn Astronomy Park, Ash Cave, Lakes Hope, Logan, and Alma, and Wayne National Forest.
Most of the acreage is behind the home which sits on St. Rt. 93 just one mile from Route 56. The home is located conveniently off the highway, please remember that retirees built this so it is not "in the woods", our acreage and woods to explore and enjoy are all behind the home.
No smoking (of any kind) inside the home. If you choose to smoke outside of the home, please remember to be sure the ashes are extinguished and properly dispose of ALL debris.
Dogs are permitted with an additional fee per pet/per stay and prior arrangement. You will be responsible for pick up and removal of animal waste from the area around the home. The pet fee is per dog and is not refundable. There is a dog limit of 2 (two) total. If your animal is a service animal as defined by the ADA, we will need documentation provided to waive the pet fee.

We loved the nostalgic feel of the home. The open floor plan downstairs made it easy for everyone to be a part of it all. Ample accommodations for our group. Close to all hiking options and the towns for convenience.
Great sitting area that actually fits everyone- this was key as all other properties in the area boast enough bedrooms for 6 people but then have living rooms/dining areas that seat maybe 3 people. Fully equiped kitchen was great, has everything you need including grilling tools. However, all the frying pans and some baking sheets either have the teflon scratched off or are rusty, so we couldn't those. Luckily we had a camping cooking set that we were able to use. This place was perfect for our weekend trip, very cozy
Host was very responsive and nice. Cabin was exactly as listed. Great place with plenty of space and nice outdoor areas to explore. It was really nice having the fire pit and cool stream nearby.
Very accommodating for the seven of us. Plenty of places to sleep. Loved spending our nights by the fire pit. Location was perfect as everything we wanted to do was close by. A lot of the cookware was pretty dirty and needed to be scrubbed before use- a dishwasher would be an awesome addition!
My teenage boys and their aunt and cousins stayed for a long weekend. The property had chestnuts and black walnut trees. The host said we could forage so we roasted chestnuts and they were delicious! We walked a trail in the backyard. We brought badminton and corn hole too. The rooms were cozy and inviting. The boys played chess upstairs. The host also let us use walking sticks during our hikes at Old Mans Cave, Ash Cave and Rockhouse. The kitchen was labeled so we could find what we needed easily. We used a gas grill one night as well. They offered a fire pit for a campfire but we didn’t do that. E enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the property and the coziness of the home. Would love to stay here again!
Mary is very pleasant and helpful. The cabin is amazing, the kitchen has everything you could possibly need. It's peaceful and the property was great hiking.
We enjoyed a couple nights at this nice home at the end of July. Perfect place to explore Hocking Hills from and a fun place for our two families to hang out together and play games. Our dogs enjoyed it too 😊

We enjoyed a beautiful Labor Day weekend at the property. The get-away provided a great escape and time to connect with family. The location and cabin were exactly as advertised and we really enjoyed our time there.

About the host
Hosted by Tom
We are family owned and built.
Our dad and mom had a vision to retire to the country after the last of their 13 children finished high school, with that in mind, they (along with about half of the thirteen) purchased approximately 218 acres of land in northern Vinton County in 1978 and began building their retirement home in 1984.
When completed in the spring of 1986, they moved to their “home in the country” and started a journey that ran 25 years and created many happy memories. With the passing of both parents in 2010 and 2011 – the remaining 12 of us decided to embark on a new path with the same home.
Why they chose this property
The home our parents (and a few sons and friends) built with their own hands through a lot of creative ingenuity, the love mom and dad had for the land brought an idea to share it with other nature seekers. Visitors and friends include those who might enjoy time spent bird watching (like our mom) from the large picture windows salvaged from a restaurant, exploring the woods behind the house (like dad who hiked up the steep hill at the age of 88), spending time in a quiet setting up in the woods, and discovering the deer and wildlife on the land. The house is comfortably furnished with all amenities for a tranquil stay in the country.
WiFi internet service is available (max speed through ViaSat is 50 Mbps) and for the most part, you'll need to use WiFi calling if you want to use your mobile phone. We do have a VoIP phone available for your use because cell service without the WiFi is SPOTTY. If you want, you will be able to truly disconnect and enjoy nature in the woods behind the home.
What makes this property unique
We do offer the ability to hike our land, keep in mind, it is not a public park and is not maintained as such. Please bring tick spray or use clothing that is tick repellant treated and/or check yourselves for ticks if you hike the woods.
Please note, both of our home's guests may be hiking the property and be respectful of those you might encounter.
We do not permit guest hunting on our property. We are not a barrier-free/physical handicap accessible home. We do NOT have a hot tub.
