Perfect house and setting for an unforgettable holiday
We thoroughly enjoyed staying in the nice and comfortable house of Rita. Practically everything was present to enjoy our stay in beautiful Ireland. Also nice to have, was the Half Barrel at walking distance. Nice food and Guiness!
We had a wonderful 10 day stay at this beautiful location. It was a good starting point for many trips to the west coast. Also the lake view from the main room is absolutely marvellous. We would recommend this house.
Great place to stay. The property is spacious with large garden going down to the lough. The main room is light and airy with comfortable chairs. The kitchen is well equipped and the bed was comfortable.
We really enjoyed staying at this property. And the view of the lake from the living room was always very beautiful.
There is a great pub and two shops for all necessities in Whitegate near by.
The property is perfect if you want to explore the Lough Derg.
We traveled from the US for a Family Reunion in Tipperary; this location was lovely in County Clare as it was close to many sights we wanted to see. A serene, lake setting, peaceful and quiet with excellent communication with the landlord. We had all ages, and a good time was had by all, the house setting let everyone do their own thing.
The pictures do not do this place justice. This is a truly lovely, comfortable home with a beautiful location. It is peaceful and has everything you need. Rita was very welcoming.
Rita was an incredible host, and we have no complaints about anything! It was an amazing location for our first trip to Ireland and we hope to be back again!
Two awesome weeks...Great people, friendly and full of suggestions. Great food, scenery, fun. Excellent location for touring the south of Ireland...ended too soon. House was better than we could have wished for.
The place was beautiful. The lake was so relaxing after our days driving around Ireland. The house was clean and tranquil. Rita was very responsive with questions and Teresa was a big help with the local area. Highly recommended.
No words to express this lovely home, so peaceful. The swans were a delight as were the people in the town. The owner responded every time we had a question. Hope to revisit. Highly recommended.
Our 1 week stay at whitegate was amazing. The location of the property is stunning.
The house itself had everything we needed, it was like home from home. The house was very clean and very well kept. County Clare and Galway are beautiful areas in ireland and this house is perfectly located to allow you to discover all that the west coast of Ireland has to offer.
We stayed here with 2 friends and our two collie dogs. A truly lovely house that I can fully recommend for those with dogs or families. Also a lovely area to explore. The Snug in Mountshannon is a lovely place to eat or to collect a takeaway. Half Barrel pub within walking distance sells good food. Portumna Forest Park , about 30 minutes away, a really great place to walk. All in a fabulous holiday

About the host
Hosted by Rita Doyle Riordan
Hi, my name is Rita and I was born in Whitegate where the property is built. the house was built in 2003. We lived abroad as a family and this was where we could bring the children every summer so they could be part of a local community and spend time with their grandparents, cousins and aunts and uncles. They are grown up now and spread across the globe but today, they still regard this property as home and all the great memories that came with it over the years.
Why they chose this property
This property is quite unique in that it is situated on a small lake. When you look across the lake all you see is greenery at the other side which is rare nowadays. The lake itself changes on a daily basis. Some mornings you can wake up to a beautiful mist rising off the lake, other mornings it is wild and fierce and sometimes it is as still as ice. To top it off the evening sunset is stunning and something to watch each evening.
What makes this property unique
The house is beautifully decorated in antique Balinese furniture which actually blends so well with the architecture and environment. The garden is large and is full of greenery and shrubs. There is a Gaelic pitch down the road (you can cross the field to reach it) so hurling enthusiasts can easily walk down to see a local game and then ramble on up to the local pub for some fantastic home cooking, and local banter. My family all live along the lake also so any questions all you would have to do is ask. It’s just a beautiful, well loved house in a stunning setting.
