About this property
Charming, cosy cottage. Family and dog friendly.
This is a delightful, charming barn conversion. Both spacious, yet cosy. There is private parking at the front of the front of The Cottage for up to 3 cars.
Ideal for couples or families. Dog friendly.
The Cottage accommodates 4 people comfortably with two bedrooms and there is a double sofa bed in the living room should you need extra sleeping space. Dogs are considered part of the family and are very much welcome, but we must know their names :).
The living room boasts a log burning fire, some logs will be provided and you can purchase some more from the village. The rear of the cottage looks out over the private, enclosed, terraced garden that is accessed by the back door.
The dining area seats 6 and looks out over the rear garden.
There is a well equipped kitchen and a downstairs cloakroom/toilet. Upstairs is the master bedroom with a double bed and a smaller bedroom with twin beds. There is a family bathroom with a shower and bath.
We have indicated this cottage as not suitable for 0-2 years, this is due to there being no stair gates and there is no extra guard to the fire (other than its door). Your infants are welcome as long as you understand this risk. A travel cot can be provided if required and a high chair on request. Small person cutlery is provided in the kitchen.
Hartley has an abundance of red squirrels, pheasants and small birds that are often found passing through the back garden of the cottage. Look out for the parrots!
Kirkby Stephen is a traditional market town of historic buildings, cobbled yards, quaint corners and interesting shops. It is on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway line. There is a heritage/information centre, café's, pubs, eateries, bakery and a superb Indian restaurant!
Attracts both walkers and cyclists alike. Situated on the Wainwright’s coast to coast path with walks from the cottage ranging from quiet riverside walks and walks along the railway lines to fells including Eden viaducts footpath, the Poetry trail, Howgills and Dales, Hartley fell and the Nine Standards, Smardalegill Viaduct and Great Asby Scar. For cyclists, Kirkby Stephen is on the W2W (Walney to Wear) coast to coast route and the Lakes and Dales Loop nearby. There is electric bike hire in Hartley and a bike shop/bike repair in Kirkby Stephen.
For those that are looking for heritage and culture, there are the castles at Brough and Pendragon and there are nearby villages of Winton, Nateby, Soulby, Ravenstonedale and Newbiggin-on-Lune - some within walking distance.

Beautiful property in a lovely location for some amazing walks. Very dog friendly, bowls, towel and biscuits provided in the cottage.
Town centre is walking distance where there are lots of dog friendly pubs and cafes. There are also shops in the town to pick up any supplies.
Very quiet, relaxing and cosy cottage, looking forward to our next trip with our dogs for more lovely walks. Definitely recommend.
We had a wonderful time in "The Cottage ". It is cosy and well equipped. Nice walks and pubs around. Juliette is very friendly. We would stay again there, if visiting the region again.
A lovely little cottage with everything we needed for a nights stay. The outside seating was nice to sit at and appreciate the peace and quiet and the living room was comfortable to sit in during the evening when the temperature dropped. Kirby Stephen was easily accessible by car but is also walkable for restaurants, cafes and shops.
Cottage is lovely. Very well located for long, interesting walks to Kirkby Stephen and surrounding countryside.

Lovely, roomy cottage in a quiet area. Cottage has good parking and is within walking distance of town. Host is very responsive to queries. Great location for visiting the Lake District and on the Coast to Coast trail. Really enjoyed our stay.
Absolutely beautiful little cottage in an idyllic location with red squirrels coming to say hello! The cottage has everything you need for an extremely comfortable stay. The cottage is within easy walking distance to Kirkby Stephen where there is lots to do and see with some lovely places to eat.
Great weekend with Husband and our 2 dogs. Cottage was great, plenty of space, garden lovely, plenty of wildlife. Short walk to Kirby Stephens plenty of shops and pubs, looking forward to next visit 😀
Super space. Comfortable accommodations. Lovely back garden with a red squirrel visitor and lots of bird song. Great walks from the door with neighbouring Kirkby Stephen easily accessed by foot path or car for shopping. Ample parking space that is easy to access. Quiet. We very much enjoyed our stay
The cottage is in a lovely location only a short drive to Kirkby Stephen. It is well kitted out with everything you need and has a very homely feel. There are many walks on your doorstep with lots of wildlife just outside your window. We did see the squirrel which was an added bonus. I would definitely recommend this and will return.
We booked this cottage for a family trip in our summer holidays and it was a lot better than expected.
The rooms were big enough for a family of four plus dog.
Everything was clean and tidy.
The place is in a cul-de-sac and quiet, only cars from the neighbourhood are present. The parking lot is big enough for two cars.
A ten minute walk leads to the next little city of Kirkby Stephen, where everything you need is available - pubs, inns, shopping, visitor centre, gas station.
The walking trails around the place are refreshing and relaxing.
We enjoyed the trip and are definitely coming back.
Lovely cottage (larger than expected from photos). Everything you need for a stay away from home.
Excellent response from owner. Clean and tidy and well equipped property. Little garden with daily visits from male/female Guests pheasant and little red squirrel plus plenty of little birds (bag of bird feed and nuts for squirrel were left for us to use). Unfortunately weather was poor so did have opportunity to sit out (furniture was available). Thank you for the traybake and Finley enjoyed the dog treats left for us. Plenty of walks from your doorstep, we liked the walk on the old viaducts about 10mins away. Short walk to Kirkby Stephen, where have a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants (some was closed due to first week in new year and they were taking holiday break, after Christmas busy period - we expected this may be the case). Property has its own parking space and neighbours were friendly.
The Cottage is is a great location, just 10 minute walk into Kirkby Stephen. The property is very walker and dog friendly, with a log burner for additional heat in the colder months. We enjoyed our stay very much & would definitely return.
