In the centre of Bologna with prestigious furniture and antique pieces of art
Our apartment is located in the wonderful Piazza Aldrovandi. It is the perfect solution for living and discovering Bologna away from conventional tourism, in the most authentic way. The familiar history of the owners permeates every corner of this apartment with several pieces of original antique furniture and paintings dating back to Renaissance or Baroque periods such as the two large canvases between the main windows of the living room and the two portraits which reveals the influence of some Flemish painter. Over the fireplace you will enjoy a splendid terracotta tondo by the school of Della Robbia with its typical tinted enamel glazes. At the sides two wooden candleholders give a touch of Roman Baroque. The delicate ceramic framework of the fireplace gives visual force at its sides to a couple of wonderful pieces of furniture: a table console dating back to 1700 and a chest of drawers by early 1800. In the same living room you will enjoy also other important antique pieces of furniture as another chest of drawers, a perfectly preserved Renaissance chest, a slant-front desk whose panel, when closed, conceals a network of cubbies and drawers used for organizing paperwork, a round table with six chairs, various armchairs in front of the fireplace. Two canvases in the Jackson Pollock style, of the 1960s create a sort of contrast between different cultural epochs. In the living room there is no more present the Steinbeck piano shown in the photos of this advertisement. Into the "studio" room you can rest on an original Wassily’s chair (1925) by the German designer and architect Marcel Breuer. The design reflects the principles of the Bauhaus school where Breuer worked in his early years. This masterpiece was the first designed piece of furniture to incorporate the leather with tubular steel. There is also an original desk as well as a bed manufactured in the late 1950s by Gavina Group. After the War years, Dino Gavina picked up the license for many design items and he got to know the owners of the apartment. The flat has so a wide living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, one bedroom with a double bed and a studio furnished with desk and two single beds. The flat is so able to accommodate up to 5 people. Mind that the total price in this website does not include the local tourist tax (amount depends by the period of the year, the number in party, the number of day (the tourist tax is applied only on the first five days). Regular receipt will be released upon payment on arrival. The apartment is located in the historic center of Bologna, in a lively area where nighttime activity, especially during warmer months and around student gatherings, can occasionally occur.

Very spacious, comfortable and well equipped apartment, we loved the furniture and the art work. Check in was smooth, Carlotta kindly waited for us to hand us the keys despite our flight being delayed. The location is central and all the main sites and many restaurants are only a short walk away.
This was a lovely spacious apartment in a great location. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed, restaurants and coffee right across the street, perfect! The apartment was clean and the beds were comfy. We had a great stay and would recommend the apartment.
This is a wonderful apartment with an elevator. The location is amazing, with great restaurants right across the street! The host is friendly and accommodating. We can not wait for our third trip to this lovely apartment!
a huge family place in the thriving university district. on a fun crowded piazza, but the main bedroom is on the back and very quiet.
beautifully set up for guests, but authentic to a life in wonderful bologna.
i cant recommend it more.
We had a wonderful stay at this apartment in the heart of historic Bologna. The location was close to restaurants, shopping and major sights in the city. The apartment itself was charming, filled with art and furniture that were truly Italian. Our flight came in past midnight but Paolo went the extra mile to be there to greet us. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!
Museum quality accommodation. Sumptuous antiques and traditional Italian feel. So much luxurious spatial rooms.
Close to everything and just a short bus ride to the station.
Bellissimo!
The location is so central and so fun; you can walk everywhere you might want to go, including right across the street for wonderful food, coffee, people-watching and atmosphere. The huge, antique-filled apartment is fit for for a movie setting. EVERYTHING you could possibly need is there. It truly couldn't be more perfect.
My wife and i really enjoyed our stay in this apartment. It felt like a much-loved home. It was a little dated in some respects (bathroom and kitchen) but this added to its natural charm for us. Also, while there was noise into some rooms from the busy piazza outside, it offered a sense of vibrancy to our stay, and connection to Bologna. We especially loved the size of the apartment, perfect for a longer stay of 16 nights. We hope to return as soon as possible. Thank you!
Our college-aged choristers were stunned at the beautiful rooms and furnishings of La Symphonia, your apartment is aptly named! ... I rather expected we would each be very pleased and we are! Carlotta was so gracious; she actually welcomed us from the living room window when we arrived. Of course the weather today after the rain, is perfect: but cross-ventilation assisted by fans everywhere will be sufficient, and reminds me of childhood summers. Ten-foot ceilings, large windows, a taxi stand out front, two nearby grocers, a pharmacy and trattoria complete the amenities!
This beautiful, spacious, classical Italian style property was the perfect landing spot for our first week in Bologna. On the third floor, ovelooking cafes, wine bars and a vital social scene in the center of University life, we still enjoyed a good night’s sleep in the quiet back bedroom. Then down the elevator and out the front door, we could make our first stop at the cafe just across the street, then head out on foot in any direction to explore this interesting and beautiful city.

We spent five days at this wonderful property. It is like living in an old world palace. Marble and wood floors, antique furniture, and a huge floorplan.
The bedroom is very quiet, though the office space is a bit louder, given the square and cafes where students congregate. We enjoyed the street sounds at night; bring earplugs for the office area if you want complete silence.
The location is fantastic, and one of the things we always look for in a property… restaurants, bars, markets all within an easy walk. We would love to stay here again.
Large, charming apartment in Quadrilatero, near University. Lovely classics period furniture. We felt we were staying at Nonna’s house. Original paintings on every wall. On bus & taxi line. Great for walking and eating. Lively piazza. Highlite for us was taxiing up to San Luca Sanctuary and walking Down the 2.4 miles of porticos.
A lively square! We got to view a small protest against tacism on Saturday morning rinners particip
A lively square! We enjoyed viewing a protest against racism Saturday morning and runners participating in a 25K event in the afternoon The evening was interesting also with people enjoying the cafés and outside seating. It was not noisy inside the apartment.Great restaurant across the street and convenient markets near the apartmentThe apartment was clean and comfortable and a step back in time which was very much appreciated after staying in stark, modern apartmentsThey were taxis right outside the building and a nice walk to the two towers and Piazza Maggione.
This apartment is magical, felt like stepping back in time with everything dating back to the 60s and earlier. Super spacious. So many amazing antiques and art made by the previous owners so it felt like being in another world. The location is brilliant, great bars and restaurants in the Piazza it's located in. You can also be right in the centre of town in about 8 mins walk, walking everywhere is a dream. Piazza can get noisy at the weekends (nothing earplugs wont fix if you are a light sleeper) but small trade off for the amazing location and one of kind apartment. Thank you for sharing this very special space with us.
The property is really unique and spacious. Very close to everything. But, if it's over 80 degrees Fahrenheit, the apartment is sweltering, even with the windows open. The square below is very loud all night with college students so sleeping with the windows open is useless. The fans do not do much to cool things down. We did not sleep while staying there and left.a day early because it.was going to be 90 degrees outside. I became ill.from the heat. This apartment should not be rented after May until fall.

We are working on AC issue. In accordance with the Historic Sites Preservation Authority, we cannot hang bulky AC external units on the façade, nor dispose pipes running along the walls on view. Our aim is to comply with the laws for the protection of historic and artistic heritage and environment. Therefore, from our experience, let’s say that many tourists have a different perception of what is a comfortable temperature. Too often, they set the lowest temperature on AC, and leave it nights and days unvaried even with acceptable temperatures. Such behavior is an unsustainable waste of energy and economic resources at our latitude. For an ecologic approach to environment, we are planning to install an AC plant working only under a certain room temperature. Let’s say that the host who wrote this review offers an understandable piqued but publicly misleading suggestion: in June the external average temperature ranges from 20 to 25 °C (68-75 °F), in Italy, it would be an unsustainable waste of energy to pretend lower temperatures! Anyway, it is true: in mid-June, July and August, temperature may be, unfortunately, very high! Next AC installation will also solve the students noise problem: windows can be kept closed. Nowadays, our guests, considering our current excellent quality-price ratio, can decide to visit us already knowing that there is not AC, that people take relaxing moments after dinner time in the square …and that it is not forbidden to enjoy leisure time with them. Beautiful apartment, excellent location.
The apartment was beautiful, with many pieces of art. There was even a piano. Marble floors throughout. Very clean and well maintained. The owner was very helpful and provided good customer service. Excellent location, close to Piazza Majore. Many good restaurants nearby. Loved the booths directly across the street that sold fresh vegetables, flowers, etc. So convenient. We would definitely recommend this apartment to friends and relative. We would stay there again on our next trip to Bologna. Such a beautiful city!

I am very happy our guests enjoyed the stay in Symphony 12! Paolo
The good: It is indeed a spacious and nice apartment with a lot of antiques to admire, and very well located. The bad: BEWARE: The listing mentions parking available but this is not the case, there is no parking available for visitors, nor ZTL permits. Considering temporary permits cost 6 per day, and parking is a little fortune overnight (45 inside ztl about 10m walk, 25 at the train station about 20m walk) it will cost you much more than you expect to pay and also walk. The floor was also dirty with a LOT of white hair, so improving the cleaning would be appreciated (you can’t see it because of the beautiful flooring, but if you put your feet on the floor or have a toddler with you, you will quickly notice it).
Despite the late June heatwave, we had a wonderful week in Bologna, and were delighted with our accommodation - Paolo's apartment is spacious, comfortable, beautifully furnished and perfectly located, just a short walk from the very centre. As other reviewers have commented, Piazza Aldrovandi gets busy at night, but for us this was one of the big attractions - you really feel immersed in the life of the city. I can't quite understand why some people have complained about the noise. The living room overlooks the piazza, but the main bedroom is on the other side of the apartment and though the piazza was swarming with students into the early hours of the morning, and we had to keep a window open in living room because of the heat, the noise didn't bother us at all. And Paolo could not have been more helpful. We've been to Bologna many times, and I'm sure we'll be returning. This apartment will be our first choice.

About the host

Paolo Devescovi, Italian, tourist rental experience since 2003, architect free lance and art teacher in public school. I am an architect and surely I can take care of buildings better than care of money. Since then, the rental activity, held through the web, became an important activity of mine. As freelance architect I soon acquired clients who expressly wanted to restore or to refurbish their houses for doing the same rental activity I was managing for my own properties. The whole has been dressed by my enthusiastic approach to the possibilities offered by the Internet. I aggregated around my private website a small community of guests. In some cases, true friendships started for long lasting rapports. Some years ago, I ought to vary my little beloved activity (I was used to call it ‘my window facing the world’) when some companies bought the whole trust of the online advertisements, begining to target the fast online-booking-style through the search engines rather than to foster the quality of growing sincere relationships as I was used to offer through my website and my personal brand Archirent (do a search on line for more). Anyway I went to great lengths to maintain the original spirit fighting against standardization of great commercial websites. Right now I can count to the cooperation of my valid colleague and architect Carlotta Lo Verde. During the booking process and also during your stay, for any circumstance, you will deal directly with us.
What makes this property unique
Parking only on demand (not included)-if parking is a fundamental requisite, contact us before proceeding with an instant booking.
On one thing in particular I staid strong: I maintained the same prices in all my advertisements. You will see that the prices in this website are lower than those reported in my official private website (do a search with Archirent). This reduction takes into account the fact you have to pay an 8.7% average rate as Service Fee to book through this website (actually the total will grow as you proceed with the checkout procedure!). The price, based on short stays, you are going to pay using this website, is approximately the same you can find in my private website or in other websites advertising my property. Differences may persist, but, positive or negative they are really inconsistent (a few euros due to the VAT policies, variability of currency rates and other factors). If you book through this website you will get the benefit of an insurance and my advertisement will rank into a higher position toward the top of the ‘anonymous competitors list’ of this website.
