Beachcomber Cottage is set behind Front Street, only a short walk from the promenade and beach in this small, friendly town. Once a thriving fishing community, there are now only a few boats to be seen out fishing. The cottage is an ideal base for touring around the many visitor attractions in the county, which was officially voted in 2018 the ‘Best County to Visit’ in the British Tourism Awards. The sweeping bay from Church Point, which is home to the Maritime Centre, stretches 1-mile with the promenade set on the edge of the beach. The Couple Statue sits out in the sea; the only east coast off shore sculpture. Midway along the promenade is a traditional ice cream parlour owned by the Bertorelli family and housed in an Art Deco style listed building, passed down over the generations. Newbiggin Rocket House and life boat station is one of the oldest in England and the locals support the RNLI which opens on Sundays for practice. The cliff top golf course is also nearby.
Woodhorn Museum is nearby has regular events throughout the year, and there is coarse fishing at the Queen Elizabeth II Country Park and of course, sea fishing on the beach. The Heritage Coastline starts nearby at Druridge Bay where the sands sweep along the coastal Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It continues past Bamburgh and Holy Island and on towards Berwick-upon-Tweed, a lovely journey on the train which you can catch at nearby Morpeth only 8 miles. Morpeth is a pretty market town with plenty of shops, pubs and cafés to while away a couple of hours. Perhaps take a trip inland and discover Hadrian’s Wall, which is less than an hour’s drive, and see the historic sites and museums. Beach 350 yards. Shop and pub 350 yards, restaurant 525 yards.
