Located in centre of the highland village of Weem in Perthshire, and surrounded by beautiful scenery, Smiddy Cottage is the ideal retreat for couples, friends and family to spend time together. Guests will find a welcoming and comfortable cottage at any time of the year.
The cottage was built in the 18th century, and legend tells that the first occupant was an Italian sword maker from the time of the Jacobite rebellion, and it was later converted to a smiddy. Bonny Prince Charlie stayed in Weem Castle on his way to the Battle of Culloden in 1746 and there are many more historical sites, castles and monuments to visit in the surrounding area.
Smiddy Cottage is great for exploring the glorious countryside with extensive walking from your doorstep, a gentle stroll along the River Tay, or explore the ancient Weem Wood which is steeped in myth and legends of demons and dragons! Highland Perthshire is well known for outdoor activities including hill walking, mountain biking and climbing opportunities, with seven munros within 20 miles, including Ben Lawers (Perthshire’s highest mountain) and Schiehallion. White water rafting, sailing and boat trips are available on Loch Tay, and golf can be enjoyed at the local golf courses in Aberfeldy and Kenmore.
For guests who enjoy eating out, then there are two hotels, both within walking distance serving quality food and ales. Aberfeldy is less than a mile away and has a great selection of places to eat as well as coffee shops, local shops, galleries, cinema, whisky distillery and an award-winning book shop. There are regular events held throughout the year including a farmers’ market, Highland Games, the Aberfeldy Festival and Etap Caledonian Annual Cycle Race, and a vibrant, live music scene in the area. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

We’ve stayed in Smiddy Cottage 3 times now and love it.
We’ve stayed in Smiddy Cottage 3 times now and love it. It’s a cozy, comfortable cottage in a lovely location. Relaxing in the bath while looking up at the stars is a gorgeous experience everyone should get to enjoy.
We have spend a nice time at this cottage. The contact with the owner is really gentle. Aberfeldy is a nice town with supermarkets and good restaurants. From there you can make a lots of trip’s or hiking tours in the Highlands and visit Perth or Pitlochry. Everything was great! Recommendation!

The cottage is very well decorated.
The cottage is very well decorated. Although downstairs toilet sink more designer than practical and set too far back for shorter people to use. The beds were very comfortable. The chairs weren't as comfortable however, we are used to recliner chairs and also suffer from bad backs. Although not on holiday just to watch TV we couldn't get BBC channels unless connecting to the internet as it was intermittent. As I enjoy Wimbledon this could have been very disappointing but managed to get it through the internet. Patio nice to use and sit out on. It was very quiet on Saturday and Sunday but the traffic was surprisingly noisy for the rest of the week. The garden is very nice but found it difficult to get up to the grass area as no step. Enjoyed our stay and close to local amenities especially shopping and eateries.

Lovely, comfortable cottage which has been tastefully restored and presented.
Lovely, comfortable cottage which has been tastefully restored and presented. Great dog walks from the door and walking distance to nice hotel which has good food. A short drive to Dull, which has a great cafe and lots to do at the Safari Centre. Aberfeldy is a mile away and has lots to offer and Kenmore a bit further to drive but again is a great place to visit. Great road cycling and mountain biking locally. Perthshire scenery at its best.
