About this property

A Perfect Place to Relax and Enjoy Nature

Cross the bridge to Harstine Island and enjoy a beautiful and quiet retreat in the woods. Relax in the comfortably furnished cabin or enjoy exploring the 5 acre property with meandering trails through a lovely forest. Surrounded by huckleberry bushes and nestled among giant Alaska Cedars and Big Leaf Maples, this cozy guesthouse shares the quiet woodland with the property owner’s home. The one bedroom cabin sleeps 2+ with a comfy queen bed and kids loft in the bedroom, and a double size futon in the living room. The complete kitchenette, covered front porch with cafe table and chairs, a covered patio with a sweet swing seat for two, and a gas BBQ, are just some of the other features of the cabin. The beach access is a short walk away and is a great place to sit and enjoy birds, sea life and watch the tides change. Visit one of the state parks on the island, or plan an excursion to explore the wonders in the South Puget Sound or the magnificent Olympic Peninsula -- it's beautiful here!

Amazing mini getaway
I would recommend this property to anyone! The hosts were amazing and very helpful. There was anything that you could need in the cabin, and the space was clean. I would give this place more than 5 stars if I could! I can’t wait to book another trip there with my kids!

Huckleberry House is Perfect!
Does this explain my stay when I have already booked for next visit? Being single woman- I found my stay not only comfprtable but felt so safe. Being in a wooded fairyland site, the beauty and peace surrounding you brings such a relaxing feeling. Little Huckleberry House is both comfortable and spotless. I highly recommend it except when I want it!

Peaceful getaway
We thoroughly enjoyed our time, as did our senior dog! He usually gets nerves whenever visiting new locations but settled immediately after feeling the cozy warm of the fireplace, surrounded by the soft pitter patter sounds of the rain. I LOVED the property and its whimsical vibe… we got lost on the gnome trail haha. Plenty of privacy and all the amenities (hot tub, grill, etc) worked perfect!

About the host

Hosted by Ruth Nisco and Scott Lowry

Host profile image
Scott and Ruth love getting creative in the outdoors; gardening, animals, photography, trailblazing, and creating a homestead are some of their passions.
Scott is a native Washingtonian and graduate of UW. He worked many years at Boeing in Washington and Arizona, he has also been a firefighter, a scuba diver, and the best barista ever! Scott is also one of the biggest Seahawks fans on the planet! Ruth was born in Hawaii and also lived in Washington D.C., but most of her life has been in the Seattle area. She does prefer the sunny life of Hawaii, but has become enchanted with the rainy forest of Harstine Island! Ruth recently graduated with a degree in graphic design and finds her new life on the island inspirational.

Why they chose this property

The summer of 2016 Ruth & Scott started looking for some property to purchase away from the big city of Seattle. Their search lead them to the little known island called Harstine. They booked a weekend at the Huckleberry Cabin, then owned by Jim and Wilma. It was love at first site and to their amazement, Jim and Wilma were looking to sell!
Ruth and Scott now enjoy sharing their beautiful piece of earth with others, and hope that everyone who visits the Huckleberry Cabin feels the magic too!
