Sunset Lagoon Retreat, with guest only Seafood Farm, is located on a private island in the Puget Sound of Washington. Enjoy your own private beach, boat dock, oyster filled lagoon, and spectacular views of the Olympic Mountains, all framed in a different sunset every evening. With the lagoon, dock & beach in your backyard there are unlimited outdoor activities to experience without leaving your retreat. Where else can you relax all day on your own private beach or take a leisurely kayak ride around your island, and then grab some fresh live oysters, clams or mussels for dinner, from your own private lagoon and seafood farm? This is truly a seafood lover’s dream. We have spent so much time and effort making Sunset Lagoon a unique place to live our lives, we decided to make it available for others to enjoy as well. Now you too can enjoy what others only dream of in your own separate 1200 sq. ft. of secured downstairs living area, at the Sunset Lagoon Retreat and guest only Sea Food Farm, with your own private entry and covered deck. An amazing 3 days

We wanted a quiet getaway and chose Sunset Lagoon because of the great reviews and the promise of seafood. If you like shellfish, this is the place for you! If you like a serene view and (usually) a great sunset, this place delivers. If you love kayaking or paddle boarding, you have a beautiful place to do it. The owners are kind and helpful. You do need to think through what you need in advance since there’s no store on this island. But that’s just a little planning in advance.

We spent a lovely long weekend here relaxing and enjoying clams, oysters, and mussels we gathered at low tide. A great romantic getaway even in rainy winter.

Dale and Carol were the best host we have ever had in our travels, there property is Ten Star.

Some of the best people I have ever met in my life, we will make this a two to three time a year trip to there property, Clean , well kept place. And the neighbors were awesome as well. This is a lovely place to take your family. We had the best time for our anniversary. Thank you both you are amazing people.

A fun relaxing weekend

The property is beautiful. The owners have thought of everything and provided for you. The owners are very friendly and there to help but unobtrusive. The seafood farm experience was great. There were lots of oysters, clams and mussels. Plus the mountain and Puget Sound views create a very relaxing experience. This was one of our best stays ever. If you like the outdoors you will love it. Just note there are 55 steps to the beach and some are steep and occasionally wet.

Little Slice of Paradise

What a beautiful, relaxing weekend. My husband and I took a quick trip away to enjoy each other and it was magical in every way. A whale entertained us while we waited for the ferry, the deer greeted us as we drove to this amazing place and Carol and Dale were so welcoming and friendly. We had the best time staying cozy with a breathtaking view and digging clams (it's like digging for treasure), and steaming them for dinner. The space is the cleanest we've ever seen. The sunsets are remarkable. We will definitely be back!! 😃💙

Carol & Dale deserve every bit of their high praise. Genuinely kind and thoughtful people who while respectful of your privacy make their availability and helpfulness clear. We got an oyster shucking lesson from Dale. Their generosity is as abundant as the clams and oysters they tend and offer you freely. Everything you need to know for your stay is in their very organized notebook. The place was much larger than we thought from the images and very clean, comfortable and tasteful. Amazing experience for seafood, the PNW, and nature!

This was more than a weekend getaway- this was an experience! Dale and Carol are such wonderful, kind hosts, and the island they live on is a beautiful and unique community with so much PNW charm. We canoed around the whole island and spent the afternoon gathering fresh oysters, clams, and mussels from their seafood farm. Hands down the best clams and mussels we'd ever tasted, even just steamed plain. This was such a treat! The accommodations are very comfortable. It seems recently redone with nice hardwood floors and an extremely comfy bed! There are big windows that give you a gorgeous view of the water from anywhere in the house. We can't recommend this property enough!

I can’t say enough good things about our stay and experience with Dale and Carol. They are super sweet, graciously generous, amazingly accommodating; always kindly available but not intrusive. Just all around superb hosts. I wish I could keep this place secret so we can keep it all to ourselves, and protected, but all good things must be shared :) . The clams, mussels, and oyster farm was 5 Star quality and my wife and I had fun foraging for our night’s dinner. Dale and Carol provided everything you need from instructions on how to forage, recipes, and even provided a few simple ingredients we forgot to pack. The sea bounty at Sunset Cove fed us with memorable meals throughout our weekend, and we could not ask for anything better. We already booked our next stay!! Thank you so much, Dale & Carol

Wonderful!

It's such a great place to get away from your everyday! Dale and Carol are wonderful hosts. They were very helpful with information about the ferry and even brought extra games for us to play. We went for just two nights and we all thought about how great it would be to stay another night! It's the kind of place that you don't want everyone to know about, because it's peaceful and so darn comfortable. The Sunset Lagoon Retreat is the bottom of their home. Remolded and beautifully styled. The bedroom with the king bed doesn't have doors. It has a large wall that separates it from the living room, which worked for us traveling with two boys (10 and 12). The beds and linens were great! I loved the bathroom. The water pressure and temperature were spot on. The lagoon was a massive hit! We had so much fun wandering around the water getting oysters and sand dollars. There is a trail that goes all the way around the tiny island. It was beautiful. The deer will eat carrots right out of your hand. Carol made sure we had a baggie of carrots waiting for us in the refrigerator. They have a toaster oven. I that made banana bread in, but not a full oven. The BBQ worked great as well. We really enjoyed our family weekend away! I am looking forward to staying there again! Thank you, Miller's for a wonderful escape from the mainland.

Our second time staying here was just as wonderful as the first. This time, we took our dog with us and it was so dog friendly with the gated porch for him to enjoy! Dale brought out a motor to attach to the row boat so we could go fishing which was great. We even saw some dolphins while we were out! We also went out kayaking later in the day. If you stay, you HAVE to try Carol’s clam chowder recipe in the binder. So delicious!

a dreamy weekend getaway!

my partner and i stayed here for a belated anniversary getaway and it was truly perfect. the interior is spacious yet cozy, the exterior is everything you could ask for when staying on the water. dale and carol are perfect hosts, there if you need them but also so good at giving you all the privacy you could want. this home is a gem! you will not regret staying here! we couldn't have asked for a better weekend away from home!

Dont think twice. Just book it. If youre looking for that *island getaway* this is it. Firepit,bbq, friendly small island community. Youre own private seafood lagoon. Endless amounts of clams/mussels and oysters. Bring the ingredients, gorge on the shellfish.

The best getaway!

This place is so magical and such a unique experience you won’t find elsewhere! My husband and I enjoyed a much needed weekend getaway at this place, where we were able to relax, eat all the oysters, clams, and mussels we could possibly consume, and kayak on the sound. We saw seals and ospreys during our 1.5 hour kayaking journey around the entire island! The space itself was perfect for the two of us, but could definitely accomodate a few more if needed. The views were incredible! We loved being able to look out at the water while eating dinner AND from our bed in the morning! More importantly, Dale and Carol were the best hosts! We don’t often stay at places where the hosts are present, but these two are so sweet, welcoming, and beyond helpful. They were always available when we needed them but also gave us privacy. It was the perfect balance! We will definitely be returning for future getaways. Thanks again, Dale & Carol! :)

Lovely place, inside and out!

Highly recommend this stay to those who want a private getaway with your partner or family! Dale and Carol are friendly and thoughtful hosts. Their place is beautiful, inside and out! Sunset Lagoon getaway

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The setting was beautiful, our hosts, Dale and Carol, were very welcoming and helpful, and the house contained everything we could possibly need. The icing on the cake was being able to harvest clams, mussels, and oysters for our meals. We would highly recommend this place to any of our friends!

We are originally from California and would vacation on this wonderful island. We decided to move to this peaceful place and now have the opportunity to share our home with others. Dale grew up in the mountain areas of California and I grew up by the San Francisco bay, so Herron Island gave us the best of both. The views are spectacular and we are enjoying this beautiful state.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this property because of it's private beach on the Puget Sound, it's lagoon filled with live oysters, clams & mussels, the most beautiful sunsets ever, it's spectacular views of the Olympic mountains and the unique friendly wild life.

What makes this property unique

This island is unique because it is a private island. All residential. We have our own private ferry which takes us back and forth to the mainland. It is peaceful, tranquil and a lot of activities to do on the island. We have available to guests, kayaks, paddle board, paddle boat, and row boat. The deer are unique here on the island they will eat out of your hands.
