Enjoy your own private beach, boat dock, oyster filled lagoon, and spectacular views of the Olympic Mountains, all framed in a different sunset every evening. With the lagoon, dock & beach in your backyard there are unlimited outdoor activities to experience without leaving your retreat. Where else can you relax all day on your own private beach or take a leisurely kayak ride around your island, and then grab some fresh live oysters, clams or mussels for dinner, from your own private lagoon and seafood farm? This is truly a seafood lover’s dream. We have spent so much time and effort making Sunset Lagoon a unique place to live our lives, we decided to make it available for others to enjoy as well. Now you too can enjoy what others only dream of in your own separate 1200 sq. ft. of secured downstairs living area, at the Sunset Lagoon Retreat and guest only Sea Food Farm, with your own private entry and covered deck. This was such a great experience. My wife, kids and I all had a blast. So much to do and free delicious seafood, can't beat it. Hosts were helpful, without being intrusive. Will definitely be back.

We had the most amazing time at Dale and Carol’s place. They had everything we needed to harvest our seafood feast and kayak around the island. I also had the best sleep in a long time. We will definitely be back!!

We could not have asked for better hosts. Dale and Carol took great care of us and made us feel welcome. They are very accommodating. The place is very clean, quiet, and beautiful. Our family enjoyed chilling out at Sunset Lagoon, kayaking around the island, and shell fish hunting. We harvested and tried sea asparagus for the first time. We ran into many deer as well. The island feels laid-back and unspoiled. Dale and Carol's house reflects a lot of care, and I'm sure it's a lot of work to maintain. We are grateful the hosts were willing to share it with guests. Can't wait to be back.

Dale and Carol are excellent host. They respoded to all my questions right away. They are very kind and made sure we have everything we needed.They take pride of their beautiful property. Its very clean and very comfortable. The host lives upstairs and the rental is downstairs which has its own entrance and lovely patio. They have everything you need to harvest shellfish,( oysters, clams and mussels), which we took advantage of. Yummy!! They also have kayaks, which unfortunately we didnt get to use because of the weather.The property is on a small island, Herron Island. You have to take a small ferry and they only take cash (it will help if you have exact change). Theres no store on the island so make sure you bring what you need. We had a very relaxing 3 nights. Thank you Dale, Carol and Bailey

We had the best time at Sunset Lagoon! Carole and Dale were such great hosts and ensured our stay was enjoyable. There happened to be an issue with the ferry the day we were going and they called right away. The problem ended up getting fixed and we made it to the island! Definitely a much needed respite. My family and I plan to go back this summer. My kids absolutely loved clamming on the private beach!

a dreamy weekend getaway!

my partner and i stayed here for a belated anniversary getaway and it was truly perfect. the interior is spacious yet cozy, the exterior is everything you could ask for when staying on the water. dale and carol are perfect hosts, there if you need them but also so good at giving you all the privacy you could want. this home is a gem! you will not regret staying here! we couldn't have asked for a better weekend away from home!

Lovely stay

We loved the home and location. One of our best PNW vacations. We ate lots of seafood, flew kites and took the kayak on the lagoon at high tide. My 3 year old had a great time.

Our second time staying here was just as wonderful as the first. This time, we took our dog with us and it was so dog friendly with the gated porch for him to enjoy! Dale brought out a motor to attach to the row boat so we could go fishing which was great. We even saw some dolphins while we were out! We also went out kayaking later in the day. If you stay, you HAVE to try Carol’s clam chowder recipe in the binder. So delicious!

Sunset Lagoon getaway

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The setting was beautiful, our hosts, Dale and Carol, were very welcoming and helpful, and the house contained everything we could possibly need. The icing on the cake was being able to harvest clams, mussels, and oysters for our meals. We would highly recommend this place to any of our friends!

Amazing stay

Lovely place, inside and out!

Highly recommend this stay to those who want a private getaway with your partner or family! Dale and Carol are friendly and thoughtful hosts. Their place is beautiful, inside and out! The seafood is amazing! The walk to a nearby beach was nice. We also had a couple deer stop by to feed on some carrots we brought with us!

An amazing 3 days

We wanted a quiet getaway and chose Sunset Lagoon because of the great reviews and the promise of seafood. If you like shellfish, this is the place for you! If you like a serene view and (usually) a great sunset, this place delivers. If you love kayaking or paddle boarding, you have a beautiful place to do it. The owners are kind and helpful. You do need to think through what you need in advance since there’s no store on this island. But that’s just a little planning in advance.

Wonderful hosts and beautiful spot

Our stay in February was more than advertised. Dale and Carol made everything easy and are super friendly. The property was spacious, clean and comfortable. The view is incredible and the shellfish abundant. We walked the whole island in a couple hours and got a sense for the community. Beautiful spot.

We are originally from California and would vacation on this wonderful island. We decided to move to this peaceful place and now have the opportunity to share our home with others. Dale grew up in the mountain areas of California and I grew up by the San Francisco bay, so Herron Island gave us the best of both. The views are spectacular and we are enjoying this beautiful state.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this property because of it's private beach on the Puget Sound, it's lagoon filled with live oysters, clams & mussels, the most beautiful sunsets ever, it's spectacular views of the Olympic mountains and the unique friendly wild life.

What makes this property unique

This island is unique because it is a private island. All residential. We have our own private ferry which takes us back and forth to the mainland. It is peaceful, tranquil and a lot of activities to do on the island. We have available to guests, kayaks, paddle board, paddle boat, and row boat. The deer are unique here on the island they will eat out of your hands.
