Rundum empfehlenswert.
As an alternative to the tourist towns Amalfi, Ravello and Positano, go to this wonderful hidden gem a 15 minutes’ drive up the mountain. There are no tourists, lots of nature, wonderful mountain views, calmness, and fresh air. I went there with my family and after a few days the place opened to us with all its softness and rough edges, and we all fell in love with the house. There are small green lizards chilling on the sun warmed stone walls, Romeo and Juliet will come and visit you (two sweet white cats), and there are lemon trees and roses and everything you will expect from a picturesque house in the mountains. There is a nice terrace and a lovely garden, but in the morning, you will have your coffee just sitting outside the kitchen on the stairs in the morning sun and relax.
Your home town will be Maiori along the coast where you also will find your super market, a good cake shop and decent restaurants. It’s not hard core tourist-style like the other famous small towns. Parking was easy to find for us in May. We drove to Maiori, parked the car for the whole day, and took one of the ferries or a bus to interesting places. There is also a ‘lemon path’ you can walk to Monori with great sea views – it will take an hour and is not too hard. From the house you can go the other way back over the mountain pass and visit Pompeii and Vesuvius (remember to order tickets online).
Driving is a bit challenging with lots of serpentine turns. We rented a station car (Fiat Tipo) and that is the biggest you can go I would say. Its not hard to get to the house, but the last 200 meters is a one way street with narrow corners, but there are places on the street where you can let the other car pass. There is a private parking spot on a little plateau below the house. You will turn ON the plateau and not go up the hill to turn, only skilled Italian drivers should do that. On the street there are three spots and you will always find one free.
There is a 4G wifi router in the house with unlimited gigabyte. Speed is 10 mbit, but if you place the wifi router in the window you will get 20.
Erika, the owner, is very sweet and helpful. She met us in the house and gave us all the practical info we needed. During our stay we had an ongoing communication with her using Whatsapp, her favorite Messenger. She gave us tons of tips and google directions. She is the perfect host.
