About this property
Artisan-Built Home in Garden Oasis
Rumah Cinta, meaning the House Made of Love, is a large open-air home atop a ridge in Penestanan, at the edge of Ubud, close to the Camphuan Hotel. From the third story tower, you can see the sunrise, the sunset, volcanoes to the north, and the sea to the south. The rooms are large and airy, with large windows and doors that slide back to let the breezes through.
The first floor great room is large and beautifully furnished, with a living area and a reading nook with a view of the gardens and pool, and a Balinese-style kitchen: refrigerator, two-propane burners, but NO OVEN. The house is equipped with some cooking utensils and dishes, though the Balinese are such good cooks, you should rarely cook for yourself!!
The two downstairs bathrooms -- one off the great room and one off the downstairs bedroom -- are in lovely walled gardens with statuary and tropical plants.
The second-floor primary queen bedroom, which faces west for beautiful evening skies, has 2 decks with large sliding doors, an open-air bathroom, and a stairway to the tower and rooftop viewing area. Also upstairs is a second queen bedroom with an indoor half-bath.
Artistic touches are everywhere you look, both in the house and out. There are paintings by local artists, Indonesian carvings, carved wood and stone around windows and doors, high thatched ceilings and beautiful rock and tile work, all hand done.
This home is designed to be one with the outdoors, so even more beauty awaits you outside, where the gardens are dense but well tended, two temples protect the property, and the infinity-edge swimming pool offers a cool, calm retreat both daytime and at night. There are a toilet and a shower by the pool, in addition to the 4 bathrooms inside the house.
IMPORTANT -- PLEASE NOTE:
1) This home sits on a walking path high on a ridge -- its closest access from the main road is a flight of about 100 stairsteps. There are 3 other ways to get to the house, which involve many fewer stairsteps but longer paths from the road -- perhaps a 10-minute walk.
2) The house is designed to take advantage of the outdoors. It is outfitted with thick walls and breezy with ceiling fans, but it is not air-conditioned. And because I don't spray poisons on my land, you may have some geckos or other harmless critters pass through occasionally. .Please DO NOT RENT THIS HOUSE if any of these things will make you unhappy or uncomfortable.

About the host
Hosted by Brooke
I live in California, dividing my time between the Bay Area and my home in Bali.
Why they chose this property
Bali is the sweetest place on earth, so when our Balinese friend wanted to build me a house, I said YES!! While I expected a simple Balinese two-bedroom house, he instead built a 3-bedroom estate with gorgeous gardens and the perfect infinity-edge pool. I am still astonished by its beauty.
What makes this property unique
The home is serene, quiet, breezy, beautiful, artful, and close to so many things. You can walk to Ubud, eat delicious food at local warungs, read and swim, and adventure out every day for the beauty and history that is everywhere.
