Charming South of Broad Kitchen House

I find it necessary to reserve the right to ask for identification prior to reserving. I am now going from instant booking to a 24 hour period to ascertain that you can provide identification should that be necessary. I am aware that unlike Airbnb, VRBO no longer vets their guests and it is up to the host.

We are one of very few licensed B&B South of Broad. This charming 1830 kitchen house is located in historic Charleston in the most desirable "South of Broad" district. The location is quiet and one block from the Charleston harbor and one half block from beautiful White Point Gardens. It is within walking distance to restaurants, shopping and entertainment.
The health and well-being of our guests is our top priority and we have implemented strict cleaning and disinfecting protocol to mitigate the transmission of COVID-19. Our cleaning team has deployed enhanced cleaning procedures, disinfecting all hard surfaces, spending extra time focusing efforts on cleaning and disinfecting “high-touch” contact points including but not limited to: doorknobs, locks, thermostats, light switches, fan pulls, stair railings, remotes, cabinet handles, and toilets.

A large first floor contains a living / dining area featuring two large fireplaces. A galley kitchen features a Wolf range and hood, Subzero refrigerator and a Bosch dishwasher and Carrera marble counters. The second floor offers a bedroom with queen bed, a renovated hall bath, a cozy den and a sunlit sunporch, perfect for a study or relaxing in the late afternoon. The third floor offers a master suite with a queen size bed, walk in closet, washer/ dryer and a beautiful bathroom featuring a beautiful marble and glass shower.
We are located 20-30 minutes to 6 beaches. Enjoy a day at the beach.
Because of steps and the house is not child proofed, children under 3 are not allowed.
Off street parking for one (1) car is provided. The driveway is quite narrow and should you not feel comfortable navigating it, we will leave a parking pass for the street. No events are allowed. The courtyard is available from 9AM to 9PM.
Please note that we adhere to a strict 4:00 check in unless an early check in has been previously approved. We provide parking for one auto. The sleeper sofa is not available for sleeping. Please note house rules before reserving. House rules are adhered to strictly and any infringement will vacate your stay without refund. We reserve the right to ask for identification prior to check in.

This was a great property in a lovely residential neighborhood. In the description I believe they state it’s one of the only rental properties allowed in that neighborhood and you can tell - it’s quiet and beautiful with a distinct lack of commercialism, which is refreshing! The owners were very communicative - we had a small A/C issue on the third floor and they were immediately responsive and came over themselves to help fix the issue. We were in town for a wedding and would absolutely stay here again.

The kitchen house was absolutely perfect for our couples getaway! We loved the location in a quiet neighborhood with some amazing historic architecture, but was also easily walkable to all the fabulous restaurants and shopping in the Broad street area. The weather wasn’t the most cooperative while we were there, but the house was a cozy getaway from the rain. Would absolutely stay again!

Terrific historical property

The Rutledge Summer Kitchen was a fantastic 2 BR/2BA quaint property right off the Battery. It’s well-equipped, has plenty of lounging space, extremely comfortable beds, and nicely decorated. One of the best I’ve booked over many years. So much better than staying in a forgettable hotel.

A charming historic property, extremely clean and great location. The owner provided very nice touches such as waters in fridge, coffee bar, snack basket, and bathroom amenities. We had a wonderful stay! Would not recommend for anyone who has a problem with stairs, but if that's not an issue, this is a perfect spot to enjoy all that Charleston has to offer!

Good property with good location and communication with Emily, but by far the best part was the supremely comfortable beds! We would come back again for those100%. We would also not try to navigate the drive next time. It was doable, but if we came again, I’d line up the parking passes in advance and make sure I was clear on the street parking rules. So if you don’t have a small car, it may be worth lining up the passes Emily will provide.

Why they chose this property

This property is legally licensed in the city as a short term rental. It has passed many requirements to be licensed.

The kitchen house is a historic kitchen house to the main house that was constructed in 1830. The main floor has two large fireplaces that were originally used for the cooking / laundry for the main house.

The kitchen house is very charming with lovely windows. The entire house has very recently under gone a complete renovation with high end appliances and marble counter tops and bathroom fixtures.

What makes this property unique

Enjoy the quiet south of broad neighborhood, close to parks and beautiful gardens. We are within walking distance to King Street with fabulous shopping and many fine restaurants. There are several beaches nearby as well as a wonderful aquarium, children's museum and Charleston Museum, providing many hours of entertainment. Because we appreciate our quiet neighborhood and we're sure you will too, no events are allowed. The outdoor courtyard is limited to 9PM. Off street parking is available for one (1) car.
