Families will enjoy getting stuck in on the farm, feeding the pygmy goats and hens and making friends with the donkeys. Owner Andrea will leave you her famous lemon drizzle cake, plus a basket of logs to load up the wood burner. Outside there’s a table and chairs and space to play and a patchwork quilt of fields to romp in. Bring your bikes and cycle along the country lanes or cycle paths – there’s a lockable shed to keep them in when you’re not pedalling.The Peak District is yours to marvel at, with a number of National Trust properties a half-hour drive away: Chatsworth House hosts festivals in the summer, or you could try orienteering at Ilam Park. Active families can walk straight from the doorstep to Dovedale’s Stepping Stones; pack up a picnic and make a day of it.
