Cosy Barn in The Peak District National Park - ideal for walkers. Dog friendly .
The Hay Barn is a detached barn on the edge of Alstonefield village . It is surrounded by fields and often the only noise is birds singing and sheep bleating . In the evening the owls can be heard and if you are lucky spotted gliding over the fields . At night we have amazing dark sky's. Up to two medium size dogs are very welcome . We have a fenced and gated garden . The accomodation is cosy and comfortable and comprises 2 bedrooms ,a double and a twin (the single beds can be converted to a queen size bed) a bathroom , separate toilet, kitchen and lounge . There is a log burner in the lounge for those colder evenings .The kitchen has recently been updated so boasts a new cooker , induction hob, fridge freezer and dishwasher. The views from the lounge and kitchen are fabulous. The washer is in a separate room underneath the main accomodation where there is also an extra freezer and room to leave bikes safely. There are many ,many wonderful walks from the property taking in Mill Dale, Dovedale , Wolfscote Dale, Thors cave and the Manifold trail to name just a few local beauty spots . Popular villages within a short drive include Hartington which has local food shops, a cheese shop, gift shops, tearooms and pubs , Ilam with its National trust Hall and the cottages reminiscent of the Swiss Alps, and Tideswell with its beautiful church known as the cathedral of the peaks. The towns of Ashbourne , Buxton , Bakewell and Leek are all worth a visit and usually there is some festival or market happening in one or other of them . The well dressings happen throughout the summer in various local villages , Tissington being the closest . Stately homes nearby include Haddon Hall, Chatsworth, Sudbury and Kedleston. There are 3 local cycle trails the tissington , high peak and Manifold trails , all have cycle hire . For children there is the Peak Wildlife park and matlock farm park within 30 minute drive. For thrill seekers Alton Towers is 30 minutes drive away . There is also splash landings at the Alton Towers hotels which is open to the public. There is a go ape aerial adventure in buxton. And after all that walking , siteseeing and adventure just sit in the private garden with a glass of wine and enjoy the peace ,quiet and views of green fields and trees . Beautiful .

This was our second stay at The Hay Barn and we feel very comfortable and at home there. It’s well equipped and in a great location for exploring the Peak District.
We had a lovely stay in the Hay barn.Amazing location and setting.Spotlessly clean and had everything we needed .Looking forward already to our return in the future:)
We had a lovely stay at Hay Barn Holiday Cottage and really enjoyed the peaceful location and beautiful surroundings. The accommodation was comfortable, clean, and well situated for exploring the area, and parking was easy and convenient. The only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 was that the communication felt minimal during the stay, as we only received the key details before arrival. We also felt the online listing could have been a little clearer regarding how close the accommodation is to the owners’ property. In addition, we missed some of the small welcoming touches we’ve experienced at other holiday cottages, such as milk and eggs on arrival, particularly considering the price point.Overall though, we had a relaxing stay and would still recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet countryside break.
Claire is very welcoming and took time to message us. The barn is very cosy and has everything that we wanted for our weekend. We loved sitting in front of the wood burner after a rather soggy day at The Roaches.Definitely recommended

Lovely Barn with a great location which was nice and quiet. Definitely would stay again.
The Hay Barn was absolutely perfect in every way. The hosts were super friendly and the cottage was super clean and had all the amenities you need for a lovely stay. The log burner was also cosy and warm after a long days walk and the beds were super comfortable. Ohhhh and the kitchen, including the dishwasher was perfect for a short (or even longer stay!).All in all this is one of the best places we have ever stayed in on Vrbo and we will definitely be back again and have already recommended it to all our friends.
Helpful and friendly advice and information before and on arrival. Tranquility and no disturbance while unwinding in beautiful countryside. We met numerous people during our trip all of whom were wonderfully friendly and all in all we look forward to going back again.
Amazingly relaxing weekend just in time before school restarted. Beautiful cottage and such a stunning location. Walks on your doorstep in any direction. Will definitely be returning.
We loved our stay the Hay Barn. Perfect size and location for our family getaway. Hosts were friendly and helpful. The area is a firm favourite for us, plenty of lovely towns and activities to do . We would definitely rebook in the future.
A stunning property with beautiful views, walking distance tovillage pub and easy access to lovely walks. The owner was responsive and flexible, the photos don't really do it justice.
Lovely barn. Had everything we needed. Thick walls so kept cool in the heat (and would be warm in cold too). Garden had lovely views and was enclosed so safe for our corgipoo, but was not accessed directly from the house which was a bit of a pain.
Cosy Barn was the perfect place to stay for a get-away from it all weekend. The house was welcoming, well-equipped and spotlessly clean. Quiet location with lots of lovely walks on the doorstep, and the village pub is about half a mile away. Claire responded quickly to the booking request and gave clear instructions for access to the house. Thank you Claire for making your cottage so welcoming and excellent communication.
Thrilled we secured this last-minute booking! We had an amazing few days in a perfect location with breathtaking views—the photos don’t do it justice.Thank you!
Lovely property in a beautiful area, with original features. Very well equipped. Good comms from our host who provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Separate toilet v helpful for a family with teenage girl IYKYK. Freshly laid eggs available nearby. Would love to return sometime soon.

Beautiful little cottage, the photos really don’t do it justice. The peace & quiet and views over the dale from the garden in the evening- superb. It’s just one mile to Milldale where you can access Dovedale nature reserve. 4 miles to Hartington with pubs/restaurants/grocery corner shop. Kitchen looked brand new. Good WiFi in the lounge. Dog friendly, great base for walking, so many great public footpaths and trails all around
