About this property

White Rock Cabin

White Rock Cabin Enjoy the feeling of camping/glamping, while having the comfort of a regular cottage. Sit in the hot tub and enjoy the stars, enjoy a fire in the fire pit. We are on a gravel road that runs along the North Fork of the Tye River, in the middle of the George Washington National Forest. There you can find solitude among native plantings, tall trees, and the porches overlooking mountains and woods. You'll find the kitchen amply provisioned whether you want to grill, smoke or microwave. From our front door you can walk along the trout-stocked river or you can venture out to locals-only hikes, 250 year old operating orchards/berry farms, Crabtree Falls, the Appalachian Trail, and Blue Ridge Parkway. All are within several miles, and it is 30 minutes to the 151 trail of wineries, cideries, and breweries, as well as Wintergreen. The cabin features a hot tub, a fire pit, outdoor shower and has two bedrooms, each with a with queen bed. New for 2023, high speed internet. Note: there is no direct cell phone coverage, there is a house phone, and some cell carriers allow wifi connection for cell phones.

The host was gracious and genenrous and wonderful with communication both through messages and through written signage around the property to tell you where everything is. Mountain Oasis

Head down a windy road along stride a rocky creek to find your beautiful rustic cabin. Walk inside and get invited by the warm fireplace and wonderfully sage green kitchen. Tired from a long day? The hot tub was a perfect spot to whine down and gaze at the stars. What a wonderful place to stay!!

Great Spot - Would Recommend!

Decided on a semi-last minute trip out of the city into the mountains. Stay was great. Scott was an excellent host - quick to communicate & went above and beyond in answering questions. Great recommendations for things to do locally. House was prefect if you're looking for a rural get away. Plenty to do in the area around the property, but also all the things you'd need if you just wanted to stay in and relax. Also - really appreciated that Scott didn't require an extensive check-out process unlike many other rental properties.

Relaxing Getaway

This property has everything you need to a quiet getaway! The hot tub was perfect along with this quaint cabin nestled in the mountains. We were able to walk along the road and at night windows open to hear the creek running. Several books in the mini library to read but also WiFi and TV for those who still want to stay plugged in. We grilled steaks and sat on the porch and just enjoyed the sounds of nature! I recommend the drive to Gertie’s for breakfast! Great food and friendly people! It’s small but worth it! We will definitely be back to this cabin! We loved our stay!

Wonderful peaceful cabin

This is a cozy and very well furnished cabin. You can hear the creek babbling nearby. We enjoyed the hot tub at night after hiking Crabtree Falls. We hope to return to this great get away. Tip: I made the mistake of failing to plan in advance to have no cell service, and was unable to access the key code upon our arrival. I had to drive about 15 minutes down the road to find service again to contact the property owner, who was incredibly responsive and accommodating. Be sure in advance to avoid my mistake, ensure VRBO sends you access info and save it where you can access it.

Hidden GEM!!!!

Adorable chalet in the mountains!! Just go ahead and book!! The host left no stone unturned in the way of comfort. Fully stocked with everything you might need and so close to awesome hiking trails with a swinging bridge and even a section of the Appalachian trail. Perfectly close for skiing at wintergreen which we did for a day. Cozy and comfortable with an entire list of Q&As that addressed all areas of the community. We will definitely be back!! So much fun!! The host even contacted us to ensure the temperature of the home was perfect and walked us through the heating/air capabilities, above and beyond A++++ 5 stars!

Beautiful Mountain Stay

We had an absolutely amazing time! The views are beautiful. It was so nice to get away. The host communicated very well about check-in process and what to expect before we got there. He was very thoughtful to check the roads the same day to make sure we would be okay as it had snowed. The property is well equipped! Anything we forgot was there for us. The host made sure everything was good to go before we arrived and even made sure there was coffee, milk, and eggs! It is such a nice cozy cabin! We also really enjoyed the hot tub and fire place. There were lots of lady bugs in the house looking for warmth but they didn't bother us at all and I see them as a sign of good luck. Will definitely be trying to go back some day.

Perfect secluded location for visiting Nelson County and surroundings.

From the beginning Scott's communication was friendly. clear, generous, and informative. We found the cabin easily from his directions. Our first impressions were that it was clean, spacious, very nicely decorated and - importantly for the middle of an extreme heatwave - airy and cool. A generous set of basic items was provided: condiments, pulses, fruit, eggs, tea, coffee, and the like; along with toiletries and useful medications (including an epipen for emergencies). It felt like we could practically have just turned up in our clothes and been able to manage for our stay. There's a full kitchen, including several ways to make coffee, and two options for outdoor cooking (gas grill and pellet smoker). Every eventuality we might have thought of, including charger cables, washing machine, and tumble dryer, was provided for in some way. The cabin gives an impression of isolation while being close enough to Montebello and Lovingston that normal grocery shopping is convenient. Trails on the Blue Ridge and within George Washington and Jefferson Forest are within easy reach and you can begin them early before the rush starts. It's nestled in White Rock Valley, surrounded by trees and set within a planned garden with pickable fruit and a hot tub (weather sadly too warm for us to take advantage). It was a delight to come back from a long trail and relax by grilling our evening meal out front. We would happily return for a longer stay!

First VRBO stay was a keeper

I live near the Atlantic Ocean and have gotten used to flatlands, but recently I felt the need for some time in the mountains of Western Virginia. I have a small dog who travels well, but she has a tendency to bark when she gets anxious and this always concerns me when I check into a hotel. VRBO rentals seemed like a good solution. The property is well maintained and the owner has labelled all the light switches and kitchen cupboards. He emails a very informative packet and responds promptly to emails. The thumbnail photo is misleading. It shows a mountain valley but the property is actually located on a hillside above a river gorge. The road to the property is 2+ miles off the highway on an unpaved, sometimes narrow, mountain road. The property has satellite internet but no TV. The nearest cell service for me was 15 miles away. The nearest "real" grocery store is about 30 minutes away, although there are a few country gas stations closer that could provide essentials. I recommend the property for someone who wants an isolated mountain experience with some beautiful scenery.

Off the grid Cabin

First of all let me start by saying the owners are very nice and supply the cabin with all the essentials, including eggs, milk, olive oil, coffee and tea, condiments, beer, wine, etc. They even offered us an extra night stay at no cost, however, the cabin and the property are a work in progress. It has a lot of potential. The internet via satellite was recently install. There is no TV. Washer recently installed and new drier not hooked up yet. The nights we were there were cold and the gas stove was not operational, though there were standard heats available, the ombievonse was lost. The owner must spend time here fixing the cabin up[. Their cloths are in the closet and tools all around. The yard needs landscaping and the grass was very long. Because of the time of year we rented there was heavy dew in the morning and our shoes got soaked walking to and from our car. There was no establish walkway. All this being said the price was reasonable and they allow dogs at no extra charge. So if you are looking was a less expensive cabin and don't mind the few inconveniences this is a good place to rent.

Scott is probably one of the most proactive and generous hosts I've ever encountered on any STR platform. From the get-go he offered us late check out and other lovely suggestions and accommodations. The home is beautifully located and oh so peaceful and quaint. Check in was very easy, there is no signal (as Scott warned) about 15min or so out, but once you arrive and connect to the WiFi we didn't have any issues. It also has every amenity you could imagine, especially in the kitchen, we ended up not eating out very much and instead cooking at the house for most meals because it was so well stocked! Can't recommend this place enough, we'll definitely stay again if we're ever in the area!

Weekend mountain get away

Beautiful stay. Everything other reviews stated are accurate. The interior design of the place is pure art makes you feel relaxed. The roads getting to the mountains cabin are twisty and takes a bit of time getting to nearby places so we planned accordingly. But that’s why the place is perfect get away. Hearing the creek with windows opened at night was heavenly.

This cute cabin was quite comfortable and ideally situated. We loved listening to the river and walking alongside it. We were able to explore Crabtree Falls, Blue Ridge Tunnel Trail and other attractions in the surrounding region. The host was very responsive, the cabin was well-kept and the grounds were lovely with native plants and a hot tub! This is a perfect getaway spot!

Absolutely Perfect

We recently stayed here in early April 2025. We got to experience amazing spring blooms from native flowers, a beautiful and remote home, quiet atmosphere and surroundings, complete with excellent proximity to a number of outdoor activities. Our hosts were very thoughtful, helpful, and provided plenty of suggestions and tips for the area as well as a clean home with board games, views, amenities, etc.I couldn't recommend this home more and we will assuredly make it a point to return to this home, given the opportunity.Come support this host and enjoy this spectacular setting!

About the host

Hosted by Scott Wiley

Host profile image
We bought this five years ago and fell in love with the area. We have jobs as nurse and psychologist, and find the peace a quiet to be wonderful. We manage three other properties ( not on VRBO) so are familiar with guest needs and hosting.

Why they chose this property

We bought this place after staying in a weekend rental nearby, and happening upon this listing. The weather in summer is generally 10 degrees cooler than Charlottesville. The road in front of the house runs for miles along the river, but some days it is hard to make it off the front porch!

What makes this property unique

The local area is rich in both history ( a century old flour mill up the road, an old log cabin across the road, and a quaint cemetery from before 1900 to name a few) and also close to Crabtree Falls, 151, the Parkway and hikes, swimming holes in the river, native trout streams within walking distance.
