Perfect one night stop for our family traveling to the east coast. Beautiful, clean and well maintained home in a beautiful mountain setting. Very secluded, but easy to get to. Also set up great for dogs. We're already talking about staying here again.
This was a great cabin for a weekend getaway. The cabin was spacious and clean. There was plenty of room for 4 adults. We loved sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch! It is in a very peaceful location. We will definitely be back!
Our family enjoyed the house and it’s secluded location! The property was well stocked. Our favorite part was the front porch… it had a beautiful view and it was SO relaxing. Frank was very quick to respond to any questions! We highly recommend this property.
We decided on short notice to visit family in the area for the holidays and were so grateful for the quick confirmation, easy communication and use of the home. We were very comfortable, the spot is lovely, and we may return again sometime in warmer weather to enjoy more hiking in the area!
We have an opportunity to write a second review because we enthusiastically booked two extra nights. Our stay was unforgettable and cozy. The hosts put a lot of love and thought into this well stocked property. Many brand new appliances and very comfortable beds. We can’t wait to come back to this gorgeous property!!!
Fantastic place to escape from the everyday crazy. Kids had a fantastic time chasing our dogs around the property and we loved sitting around the amply stocked firepit. Front deck was the perfect place to listen to the birds and the breeze in the trees with a drink in the morning. Very close to the Blueridge Parkway (make sure its opened when you plan your trip)! Would stay again.
The house was very clean and well kept. Kitchen was well stocked with everything you need. The beds were comfortable for a good nights sleep. The most beautiful front porch and view. It was so peaceful. We even saw some deer in the field. So close BRPW which was also a beautiful drive. We had a great stay.
This house and property are beautiful. It is right off the Blue Ridge Parkway and is secluded and private. The owners have provided any and everything you will need, even wood to burn in the fire pit. The house was spotless, very dog friendly, and the owners are awesome and extremely easy to communicate with. There is a huge, beautiful front porch with rocking chairs and a grill. I had a wonderful time and I am looking forward to my next stay here.
Lovely property. Very clean and well thought out for guests. The only issue I had was being afraid to open the windows due to the ADT security monitors on them. I would have loved to breathe the mountain air while sleeping! But overall a great stay. Will definitely come back!
This home was perfect for the 7 of us and a newborn. It had everything we needed and more. We loved sitting on the porch in the am and evening. The weather was perfect except one day but that was ok as well. Thanks again for making us feel at home and hope to come back again soon. I call the Blue Ridge Mountains GOD'S Country.
Just like home (except for the person in the basement)
Secluded and quiet. While it was only my wife and me the property would be heaven for a large family or group of friends. Not luxurious but very comfortable and homey. My wife described it as “ like the home you grew-up in”. Very dog-friendly. The only negative and this really disturbed my wife was that there was another person in the house. She was in the basement apartment and kept completely out-of-sight but she could be clearly heard coughing, moving around, and playing the television. If this is explained in the property description I apologize for mentioning it but I don’t see any mention of this being a shared property.
We had a great time at Spy Run Hideaway! The kitchen was well equipped and we made good use of the gas grill on the porch. We spent most of our time in the huge covered deck or running in the front yard. Lots of great bird watching to be had. We had one night of bad storms and were excited to find there was a back up generator ready to go. We were prepared to “rough” it until power restored but instead we just limited our use of power to necessary areas and had a great night of games listening to the storm roll through. Things worth noting: the road in can be a bit winding, it’s on a mountain after all. Do not recommend driving in or out at night unless you’re really comfortable with narrow mountain roads. Phone service can be spotty, but there is WiFi, we liked the forced disconnect. The fire pit is up on a hill so bring head lamps for traversing that slope after a night at the fire. Skyline drive is a stones throw away and we enjoyed the close proximity. Lastly, I forgot my travel kitchen kit and the hosts were great about getting it sent back to me. That was hugely appreciated. We hope to visit this home again in the future and are thankful the owners share their bit of heaven.
This home is shared with a resident that lives in the lower portion of the house. We found out by accidentally trying to open a locked door and hearing the resident. The home is well maintained, clean, and beds very comfortable. Frank (host) was communicative and helpful. Overall stay was good but sharing a property wasn't expected and was a source of anxiety for our family as we have 5 kids and don't want to disturb others.
Very clean and well appointed with a LOT of extras that made our stay easy and enjoyable. Close to excellent hiking trails. It was a big plus that pets were welcomed as we brought our 2 beagles who had a great time too!

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in
Disliked: Communication, location
The property is beautiful. Those traveling along 81 and looking for a place to stay need to be aware, however, that they will be driving up a mountain, down a gravel road for more than a mile, and up a graded gravel driveway. We were in a 26' moving truck pulling a car and it would have been impossible to get this into this location even though the owner wrongly suggested that it wouldn't be a problem. He either has very bad judgement or isn't concerned about his guests (except for the concern that they pay him and don't cancel). I barely made it up the mountain with the load and got turned around safely thankfully.
This was the perfect get away for nothing but R & R! This home is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains secluded from the world. The only neighbors that you have is the deer family that graze in the field & on the crabapple tree, bunnies hopping across the yard, butterflies frolicking in the air & the hummingbirds stopping by to take a drink from their feeder on the front porch. They love to visit you while rocking away the time in the rocking chairs or swinging on the front porch swing. You can play a game or 2 of foosball on the porch as well. Bring your steaks, burgers & dogs to grill as the gas grill is ready to help you have a feast. Forgot seasonings? No worries there! This place is stocked with everything you can possibly need. Just bring your clothes, toothbrush & enjoy the comforts of home away from home. Three nice sized bedrooms & 2 full bathrooms. The beds were comfortable & the bathrooms are stocked with shampoos, body washes, toilet tissue & tissues. No skimping here - nice name brand with softness. The entire home is warm and welcoming. Slightly dated, but still comfortable and welcoming. I look forward to staying here again when our family goes back to the mountains. Biggest perk…..It’s about an hour away from the new Buc-ee’s!
This was a great house in the mountains. It was clean and had everything we needed. The front porch was amazing, allowing us to sit and watch nature, with our pup joining in on the family activity. Bring food and drinks and enjoy nature in this comfortable home. You could go out to eat, but you have to navigate the windy mountain roads, and everything is 20 plus minutes away. Try the CrabTree Falls hike, about 10 miles down the road, the views were spectacular. The owner was easy to communicate with and very helpful. We will stay again if in the area.
