About this property
Beautiful 17th century cottage in a lovely quiet countryside location
La Mancellière is a beautiful 17th century hamlet in the picturesque Manche region of Lower Normandy, close to the Brittany and Loire borders. The Cottage has been lovingly restored into a comfortable, self-contained gite with private gardens. The property can accommodate up to 4 people, over two levels, in two beautiful bedrooms, each full of character and charm. There is a large master bedroom with a king-size bed and a lovely twin room with two single beds. There is also a shower room on the first floor. All rooms are made up with comfortable, high quality cotton bedding and have central heating and alcove windows with fantastic views across the gardens to the farmland beyond.
The stone fireplace is the heart and soul of the Cottage and putting your feet up by the wood-burning fire is the perfect way to end a long day sightseeing. The kitchen and utility room is fully fitted and well-appointed with a range cooker, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The dining area has a table for 4 people and the cosy lounge area has big squashy sofas, perfect for relaxing by the fire.
The gite has lots of original features including chestnut floors and exposed oak beams throughout. La Mancellière is surrounded by rolling countryside and has lovely gardens for you to enjoy. There is TV and DVD player and fast fiber-optic WiFi internet is available free of charge.
The large, secluded, child-friendly grounds are well away from any roads. From time to time there are also sheep and chickens (in fenced off areas). We also have BBQs and outdoor games to keep kids entertained such as boules, frisbees, bats and balls, footballs etc.
Five minutes from the village where you can buy fresh bread and pastries from the excellent bakery. There is also a bar/brasserie/tabac, hair salon and a beautiful church.
No trip would be complete without a visit to the world famous and magnificent Mont-St-Michel, which is around 30 minutes from the property. The ancient rock formation, with abbey and fascinating architecture along with shops, bars and restaurants. The views are awesome and a visit is truly worthwhile.
There is an activity park with waterslides and a host of other great attractions just 20 minutes away. A swimming complex with slides and jacuzzi in St Hilaire 10 minutes away. Beaches, waterfalls, karting, aquariums and a reptilarium all nearby.
The beautiful towns of St Malo, Dinard, and Dinan in Brittany and Granville in Normandy make great days out, boasting beautiful beaches, walled towns and are steeped in history. There are also wonderful shops, marinas, and plenty to do for the kids.

A pleasant house in a quiet location with a large garden at guests' disposal. A pleasant contact with the owner and his family and helpful for the tips in the area. The house is equipped with all comforts.
Several supermarkets are accessible by car in the area.
Surroundings tips: Saint Malo, port and old historic town, St. Michel, Fougeres town and castle, Vitre old town, castle. Botanical garden, beautiful, restaurant and tea house. Nice base to go to the sea-site and fishing port.
Thanks for the pleasant stay.

Many thanks to Ged for warm hospitality. We had a nice week. Excursions, Brocante, sea all in the area. The cottage is super furnished and very cosy, so that you can survive a rainy day well.

Norbert and his family were very friendly, courteous and respectful and left the cottage in a good condition. I would welcome them back to my property anytime, it was very nice to meet them.
Just perfect for our requirements in October with the log burner on every night in the cosy living space. Beautiful character cottage with a lovely garden space form us to relax in when the sun shone. Ged was the perfect host - available when needed - living in the same zone - but never interfering - we hardly saw him otherwise and providing good insight into the surrounding area. Recommended.
la propriété est dans un endroit au calme où nous pouvons se reposer.

Outstanding
What a pleasure to stay with Ged. The Cottage is welcoming and a delight to stay in. It exceeded our expectations, was even more than we had hoped for. Not only was The Cottage well set up and comfortable, it was warm and inviting, it felt like a home. Knowing that we could travel around Normandy and come home to sit and relax only after a day of visiting many of the sights within the area made the overall experience sensational.
We would come back here time and time again, without hesitation.

Wonderful cottage on the edge of a hamlet
We booked only a week before our arrival date, however, Lisa and Ged couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful in the run up to our holiday. Communication was excellent.
Upon arrival at the cottage we were warmly welcomed by Lisa and Ged, who live on site, and given a quick tour of our cottage to ensure we were comfortable and knew how everything worked. They were very happy for us to call on them for any help or advice during our stay, which is always reassuring. I would state here though that we were were left to enjoy the cottage without any interference. Lisa and Ged have got the balance of friendliness vs privacy perfectly right.
The cottage is well equipped, with comfy sofas and UK TV stations and beds with good pillows and lovely bed linen. The cottage is clean and well maintained.
Although the cottage is in a rural location, a local supermarket is only 10 minutes drive away. Fresh bread and croissants are only a 5 minute walk away which is a lovely bonus!
A local pizzaria in St Hilaire (10 minutes drive away) was very good value for money and the food was excellent. Also to be recommended is Auberge du Lac, about 25 minutes drive away in Vezins serving excellent food and very welcoming hospitality.
All in all, this was a fantastic week away; We had lovely weather and thoroughly enjoyed staying in a quaint cottage which I would recommend highly to anyone considering staying in this area.
Thanks Lisa and Ged for your wonderful hospitality - hope to see you again soon.

Excellent value for money
We had a lovely family holiday. The gite is a real home from home, beautifully decorated and full of character. Our son loved the huge garden, there was even a shed where he could help himself to toys.
Ged and Lisa were perfect hosts and had lots of recommendations of places to visit. There are beautiful beaches about 45 minutes away and The Enchanted Village is a must if you have young children.
We were all very sad to leave and hope we can return soon.

Great Hosts & Location
Ged & Lisa were amazing hosts.. they had lots of tips and information to give us on our very first trip to Normandy. The Cottage was clean and quaint and offered great facilities. The garden was extensive and plenty of room to relax and eat al fresco, however the seating was limited and would have benefitted from loungers for a more relaxing afternoon in the garden.
We were given lots of inside information as to events in the local area and tips about other attractions further afield
The location was excellent as most sightseeing could be done in just over an hour including Le Mont St Michel.
Would definitely go back to the area and would recommend La Mancelliere to our friends and family.
Thank you again Lisa and Ged, wishing you lots of success.

Amazing holiday, lovely accommodation
Very pretty setting, so clean and what a joy to be presented with such a lovely place to call home for a week. The owners are welcoming and friendly, but never intrusive. We just loved it here. Very close to some great beaches and places of interest. In the evenings we relaxed and ate Al fresco in the charming gardens.
Highly recommend

Perfect base for our Normandy holiday
La Mancellière was the perfect base for our week long holiday in Normandy, including visiting Bayeux and the D Day beaches.and shorter drives to Mont St Michel, Cancale and local towns. There are plenty of things to do including visiting sights and walks and other outdoor activities.
Situated a short walk from a small village with essential shops, and a short drive from a small town with a hypermarket and larger selection of shops and restaurants. The road passing through Buais is well maintained, providing quick and easy links to the wider area.
An Immaculately clean and well presented property, comfortably furnished for four, the cottage is cosy with plenty of space for four adults. The gardens would provide safe space for small children to play and were a relaxing place to spend time enjoying the peaceful country air.
The owners live on site and are welcoming but discreet hosts offering reliable advice about the local area. Booking and payment arrangements were clear and straight forward, and our deposit was returned promptly.
We'd be happy recommending the property to family or friends looking to stay in this area.
