Great stay, great river access

Property was nice, and clean. Was perfect for our stay, as we kayak fished and were able to put in and pull out from 2 seperate float trips at the house.

A great peaceful spot

We had a great stay! The location was so quiet and peaceful, a great spot for a relaxing weekend away. The property was well-cared for, and we really enjoyed spending time on the deck and in the hot tub. It could have been slightly better stocked with toiletries, but overall a wonderful stay. Hope to visit again!

Wonderful Stay!

Wonderful location and wonderful home! The family enjoyed hiking, fishing, hot tub, fire pit and much more. Close to Luray Caverns. Close to grocery stores/restaurants but secluded enough for quiet family time. Thank you!

Great girls weekend getaway

The cabin was very nice and was a great location for us to explore hiking trails and wineries in the Shenandoah area. We especially enjoyed the hot tub after the long hikes!! The cabin was clean and comfy!! I was a little nervous about the road leading to it on our initial arrival but quickly got used to it. I would definitely rent this cabin again!

Renter

The only things I’d be critical of are-comfort of living room furniture and ease of access to hot tub. But that is a bit of nitpicking. Overall it was nice and the location was good for us.

Birthday Getaway

We stayed at The Shuck for a 4 day getaway for my birthday and had a great experience. This was a great place to unwind and getaway for a few days and enjoy the peacefulness. The cabin was clean and stocked. There were great views of the mountains from the deck and living room. The river is a very short walk from the cabin and can be seen from the side of the deck and the back windows. We enjoyed the hot tub every day and the jacuzzi tub in the master bath is big enough for 2. The hosts were very helpful and quick to respond in the evening when we had questions about the fireplace (lots of user error lol!). We enjoyed barbecueing on the grill that was provided and grocery stores weren't far away for any supplies you may need. Would definitely reccommend!

Wonderful Week at The Shuck

We decided to rent the cabin so that my husband, daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter could vacation together and bring our dogs. The cabin was spotless and had everything we needed for the week other than groceries. We all enjoyed spending time at the river fishing, tubing, or just watching the sunsets. We used the firepit for smores at night and the deck for watching the wildlife in the field across the road. Although there was a television, we did not turn it on until the last day to entertain our granddaughter while we were packing up. We spent one afternoon at Luray Caverns and a full day going to Natural Bridge to feed the animals at the drive through safari. All in all, it was an awesome week that was thoroughly relaxing and enjoyed by all. We hope to return next year and would absolutely recommend this host and this cabin.

AMAZING and RELAXING

We have 2 children [7 and 11] and 2 lab puppies [about 6 months old] and we all had an amazing time. The leaves were just starting to turn an it was very picturesque! Our family went to the river just steps away and fished and swam [in October it was 80-85 degrees]. The field on the other side was perfect for early and late walks with the puppies. The house itself was perfect and could not have asked for anything more. There was a mini crock pot which I used and was perfect. We own a timeshare and the dishes, pots, glasses, etc are very cheap; complete opposite here. The dishes and pots were the same quality I have at home. The inside has 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. Amazing and relaxing time, we will be back soon! --- Emily Galat

Modern chalet in a rustic, quiet setting

Beautiful hardwood cottage with a top-notch, full kitchen and three comfortable bedrooms. The master bedroom has an awesome jacuzzi tub in its bath, which was great. The master bedroom overlooks the living area and isn’t behind closed doors, so keep this in mind for privacy. The owner was very responsive to any questions. Just steps away from the river, we saw many deer 🦌 during our stay. The night sky was beautiful, with little light pollution. Luray is just a few minutes away. I’d recommend taking a higher-clearance vehicle or 4-wheel drive to get to the property, as a few miles of the road are unpaved and a small part is, essentially, dry riverbed. The only recommendation for the owner is for pillows to be replaced. While the decorative ones, in shams, are nice, the “real” pillows are very flat. Otherwise, this place is darn near perfect! Thanks for a wonderful long family weekend.

We recently stayed at this property in Luray, Virginia and had a mostly enjoyable experience. The location is truly beautiful, with peaceful surroundings, gorgeous views, and excellent access to the river. It’s a great spot for relaxing and enjoying nature. The home itself was very clean, which we appreciated. However, it was not as well-maintained as we expected. The hot tub was far too hot, and there was no way to adjust the temperature. We also encountered a number of wasps on the deck, which made spending time outside a bit uncomfortable. With some attention to maintenance, this property has a lot of potential. The setting is wonderful, and with a few fixes, it could offer an even better guest experience.

Beautiful property

We enjoyed our stay! The Pros……easy river access, nice views out of the big windows…easy commute to the town ofLuray…pet friendly…ac was nice and cool…The Cons……the beds weren’t terrible but also weren’t comfy (very firm and squeaky), only the bare necessities so bring your tin foil and anything basic that most rentals usually provide, noCharcoal or lighter fluid provided for the grill (we had to go back out and buy some)…the coffeepot took 45 minutes or more to perk a pot of coffee…no extra blankets or throws to keep comfy…the couches seemed worn and the towels and pillow cases…I found a candy wrapper when I pulled the bedspread back(were they not stripped and cleaned?!) so I slept on top of the bedspread with the blanket I keep in my car…We almost ran out of toilet paper (we used it sparingly) and there were only enough bath towels per person…no extra towels to wrap your hair up.The hot tub was 108 degrees and unbearable. The property description says a canoe and life jackets are provided. We didn’t see them anywhere. The bedrooms could use ceiling fans, it got a little stuffy but it was also very hot outside during our stay. The deck was great but no cushions on the metal chairs. Not very comfy but very beautiful views. The cabin is For Sale.

The cabin was nice and the location was good. Not a lot of pots and pans to do cooking. The hut tub was nice as well but the top did not fit properly and was very heavy to open and close. Overall it was a good experience.

Peaceful Mountain Retreat

Stayed the weekend with 3 other adult family members just to visit each other for a quiet weekend. This was perfect. It was quiet and relaxing in the beautiful mountains of VA. We found things to do like walk thru Luray and shop, went for a wine tasting, and has a fantastic breakfast buffet at Circa '31. Home had everything we needed and the hot tub was a nice bonus.

Wouldn’t stay again

The house is okay overall but there were several issues. There is a massive wasp nest under the house and owners simply said to keep doors closed. They provide 2 rolls of toilet paper, 1 roll paper towel, and only 1 bathroom had hand soap. House water turned brown on our last 2 days. Beds and couches are uncomfortable and there are no extra linens. Upstairs faucet handles come off. Hot tub is limited to 100. Essentially, it is an investment property with minimal consideration for guests. We stayed at 6 different rentals on our roadtrip and this was definitely the worst.

Wonderful week!

We enjoyed our stay at “Shuck.” Everything was as advertised. River was perfect for wading, floating, and fishing. Kitchen was fairly well stocked. Our biggest disappointment was the hot tub. It had an extremely high level of chemicals in that we were unable to use it due to the strong fumes. We even tried removing the cover for an hour or so before we were going to get in but that didn’t help, either. That being said, we would still recommend this rental and will likely rent again.

Nice house in a great location

The house was as described, and a good size. It was great to have access to the river and a sizable yard. The location was quiet but not too far from Luray caverns and skyline drive. The kids enjoyed playing in the river and finding crayfish. There was not any charcoal for the grill so we had to go out and buy that, perhaps that could be added to the description (byoc).
