The Gypsy Knot is a beautifully quirky gypsy wagon hidden in the walled garden of an historic house, in the centre of the popular seaside town of Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk. A truly special hideaway find, you'll just love the hospitality and location.

Set in its own private walled garden, this magical gypsy wagon is filled with everything you need for a relaxing stay. It is full of quirks and wonderful features with its sliding double bed, fold-down kitchen area and pretty stove to keep you cosy on chillier evenings. There will be a welcome hamper with basics and some treats (of course!) on arrival. This should keep you going, but if you do want to cook, there is a lovely old fireplace which acts as a firepit/stove and barbecue, or there is a microwave inside the hut. If you would rather head out and try some of the local gastro pubs, you are certainly not short of choice! There are three pubs all within two minutes' walk around the beautiful Georgian village green 'The Buttlands'.

The wagon is in the grounds of Ware Hall, and the amazing history behind the house itself is almost as quirky as the wagon! The story of May Savidge is known by many, after being forced to demolish her much loved family home in Hertfordshire, she took it down, timber by timber, and brought the whole house to Wells-next-the-Sea where she single-handedly rebuilt the medieval Hall.

Windy Wagon

Overall our stay was great however just a few things to be mindful of when others are booking. If you are looking for something a little different this place is perfect. It is steeped in history and totally fascinating. But the wagon is smaller than you realise; the garden is beautiful but very over grown, and if it has been raining you get very wet from the overhanging plants. Care is needed on the steps and remember to duck when entering the Wagon. The pathway to the toilet room is uneven and not as the photo shows. All the photos need up dating on the site. The bath/shower room (in the main house) didn't have any hot water during our stay. The shower is a hand held shower head. The shutters on the wagon rattle in the wind, a lot, so much so they stop you sleeping if it is windy. Christine, the Host, was lovely, very welcoming and smiley and provided a Welcome Hamper, which was fab. The Gypsy Knot is ideal for those who are looking for something different; an adventure. The location is perfect for the sea front. Not suitable for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. I hope my comments help.

Weekend Break

It was a lovely unusual place to have a great break away from the business of life where we could relax and just have some time for the two of us. Totally recommend it

Very compact and stange vibe

An unusual experience! Instructions to find the property were poor. A note was left as no one was there to meet us, even through we we asked to provide times and a two hour range was given. The hut is tucked away in a small separate walled part of the house garden, with steps to access. It is poorly signed from the road, with the house having no name on it at the front, just when you go down an alley at the back, which does not make it feel welcoming to start with. It is very small, so if you are claustrophobic at all or have any mobility problems I would not recommend this place. The hut style is very busy with lots of chintzy items, which make the place even more awkward to navigate and makes it smaller. It has a strange unwelcoming feel to it. There is power, but if done properly a small fridge could be provided rather than a cool box. The bathroom is in the main property and could do with updating - the shower is over the small bath, with shells stuck on the side and fake plants. It has shower curtains on a makeshift frame and nowhere to hook the shower head. The hut, toilet room and bathroom were not especially clean. Unfortunately, a disappointing, creepy experience and not somewhere we would go back to. With a bit of modernisation, it could be a much improved experience and made more welcoming instead of creepy!

The Gypsy Knot

Wonderful location and the caravan is beautifully presented. The owners couldn't do enough to make sure your stay up to expectations. Only draw back is if you're over 6ft tall you may find the sleeping a little uncomfortable. Well worth a visit.

Superb

We recently stayed here for one night and what an absolute gem of a hideaway. Not only the location, just a five minute walk away to the harbour, but also the accommodation…I have never stayed anywhere so quaint. Although the hut appeared seemingly rather cosy, the bed opens up to the size of a double and was ultra comfy. There was also everything you could need inside…including a fantastic goody basket. Many thanks to Christine for showing us the inside to her house and enlightening us on the fantastic story behind it. The entire trip was incredible and would thoroughly recommend.

The Gypsy Knot is Wonderful

My husband and I recently stayed at the Gypsy Knot for our anniversary weekend and we had a lovely private stay. The Gypsy Knot is located in its own private walled garden, encased with flowers and it simply beautiful. Christine provide an impeccable service and the Gypsy Knot was stocked not only with a delightful welcome hamper but also all the essentials you would need. We can not praise Christine and the Gypsy Knot enough and we would gladly stay again and again.

Weekend retreat

The Gypsy knot caravan is a gorgeous little retreat tucked away in the a beautiful garden. It is as it says, suitable for 2 people that are close. There is all you need for a quiet relaxing retreat to unwind and be peaceful as well as within walking distance of the lovely seaside town with anything you may need. The owners are respectful and friendly.

Can’t recommend enough! Excellent stay!

What can I say - what a fantastic experience staying here. We were greeted by Georgia who was very lovely and made us feel incredibly welcome. Upon arrival - we received a hamper full of really nice goods, which was a very lovely touch to our stay. The bed - I would say it was one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. The location is so central and a very quick walk to the local pubs/restaurants as well as the high street, including the quay. I can’t recommend this place enough. Me and my partner wish we booked for an extra night as one night here wasn’t enough! Would 100% stay here again when in the area.

Tucked away

The host was welcoming and helpful and provided a lovely backstory to the property in which the caravan was situated. The bed was comfortable and cosy and the seating area outside was surrounded by wild flowers and birds and felt as though you were in the middle of nowhere. The bathroom and shower was a bit tricky to use but manageable. Lovely hosts
