This beautiful apartment was in an ideal location. The back of the apartment rests on a peaceful portion of the river. It was very relaxing to sit on the porch with coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. The apartment is very spacious, modern, and comfortable. We had everything we need. The hosts were thoughtful, especially in providing fans in the bedrooms as apartments in Durham do not have A/Cs. Please note that on the weekends it can be noisy from the bars, but the upstairs bedrooms are well insulated, and the noise was no bother. If we were to return to Durham, we would definitely book here again.
Beautiful apartment, lovely views, perfectly situated and kind hosts! The hosts were most welcoming and thoughtful, offering us a friendly orientation on arrival and surprising us with a delightful selection of treats and starters, and a lovely bottle of wine. The kitchen was fully equipped and included a wonderful and stocked espresso maker, and essential supplies, which we greatly appreciated! All rooms were well-appointed, with lovely window views of the River Wear from the living space, and excellent lighting for evening reading. We also appreciated the lovely bathrobes and shampoos, etc. A very quick and pleasant walk to the city centre, the beautiful Durham Cathedral, the university, cafes, shops, the nearby river path. We hope to return!
Great communication from Chris and Wendy, really helpful and checkin was straight forward. Property as described with quality furnishings and facilities throughout. Highly recommended.
Excellent stay. The accommodations were beautiful--just as the photos show--and the setting along River Wear and close to all of historic Durham could not be better. Spent 5 nights here and every one a memorable treasure.
The only knit to pic is the bar located near the back of the property--the side where the bedrooms are located. It advertises 6 outdoor screens for sports buffs, and the sports buffs were out, even in November. It was not a loud group who gathered, by sports bar standards. I think the owners are aware that they are located in a neighborhood with housing and try to be good neighbors. But even just people speaking in normal outdoor voices carried to the bedrooms. It would be good of the owners to let folks know about this. We always travel with earplugs and 10 hours of nature sounds we can play, and that did the trick. But folks who are not prepared to block out the noise might be disappointed--though I will say, the noise seemed to end quite early, even on weekends. I don't know if that was because it was chilly, or if the bar owners move people inside at a certain time. Anyhow, that was our only mild complaint. Another possibility: we have stayed at places that provide noise-deadening inserts that can slip into windows at night. Something like that might be something for the owners to consider in the future for the two bedroom windows.
But that really is nit-picking. This is a lovely apartment and the owners were wonderful to work with.
