Great family break

Fantastic place to stay! We stayed for three nights with our two children - they loved staying in "the castle". Really well furnished and had everything we needed. The views are fantastic and some great walks in the area. Easy to drive to Durham and the Beamish Museum. Highly recommended!

Peaceful

Wonderful, quirky property. Extremely clean and well equipped. Cosy and comfortable. No blinds or curtains in bedroom which is in keeping with the style of the building however, if like me, you are used to sleeping in a dark bedroom then I would recommend you bring an eye mask. Lovely location with lots of nice walks and rides out. Seaham is particularly pretty. Would whole heartedly recommend a visit.Very reasonably priced for the uniqueness of the property

Incredible stay; beautiful views and stunning property.

We loved our stay here. The folly is amazing, so warm and cosy. We’re definitely coming back in the summer to enjoy the beaches more but a winter stay was just as enjoyable. Thank you so much, Liam, Jodi and Otis.

Fabulous place

We had a lovely stay even though the weather was stormy. The folly is beautiful and had everything we needed. The host has put heating on for our arrival and also helped us to find it in the dark which was much appreciated. The views from the property are amazing. Seaview and horses outside. We felt really comfortable and cozy and we'll definitely be back.

Just awesome

Lovely property, so quite and beautiful. One thing, there isn't a microwave or toaster so if you're taking food, bear that in mind

Short half-term stay

We had a lovely few days at the folly, the children called it their castle! It had everything we needed, good sized kitchen for cooking breakfast, ample seating in the sitting room, where you can watch the horses or the ships passing by. There is a bath with a shower head attachment to the taps, just remember to flick the immersion on for your hot water, in the cupboard on the landing. There are plenty of heaters to keep you warm, we didn’t need to use any upstairs! There is WiFi just in case you need it, and the TV has plenty of hdmi ports should you wish to take your own firestick with you. There is a public bridle way which runs down the side of the property. If you are feeling like a decent walk/run you can do a circular route which takes you back towards Hawthorne, turning onto a footpath at the gates through Haythorne’s plantation onto the old quarry. Once over the bridge for the railway line you carry on the path to Nose’s point, from their I cut back up the main road (A182) to Heseldon East House, a small farm with the public foot path taking you through the yard and behind the buildings. If you keep to the right and go through the metal gate up the hill, you will see a path to the left which take you past a building at the top of the hill, follow this until you are back at the folly. The run was around 5.5km. Make sure to take in the facts at Nose’s point which explains where blast beach gets its name. All in all we had a lovely stay.

Perfect!

We had an amazing stay at Kinley Tower. The views are lovely and it is a very peaceful spot. Surrounded by countryside the walks from the Tower, including along the beach are fantastic! The Tower was equipped with everything you could need and spotlessly clean! The owners made every part of the booking/check in and departure very easy. They even went out of their way to return something to us that we had left behind. We would wholeheartedly recommend a stay in your own little piece of history!

Mini Castle on the Hill

Fabulous stay in this unique folly! it was lovely to see the sea and horses from the windows each day and there was plenty of activities to keep the children entertained close by - especially finding sea glass treasure on the local beaches.

Folly good fun!

Such a lovely place, in the centre of fields with horses grazing peacefully around making the setting perfect! 10 mins on foot to the beach (to go sea glass hunting) and 10 mins in the car to Morrisons. The beach is pebble and it has a steep incline so if (like me) you suffer with bad knees, you need to take care but it can be done. I have a tween and a teen and they loved the setting enough to put their phones down and enjoy family time 😊 Durham Castle & Cathedral are also well worth the visit. Will definitely be back as there’s more to see and we ran out of time 👍

Perfect Castle on the Hill

We had a lovely stay at this little folly, first impressions were justified and it looks amazing sat on the top of the hill! Property was very clean and welcoming on arrival and nice and cosy. Lovely little supply of tea, coffee and biscuits (although we had brought our own!) Comfy beds we all slept very well with the combination of sea air and walks to go on! Also good supply of hand towels and soap for hand washing. Having read previous reviews about no curtains in the bedrooms we took some temporary black out blinds (the sort that can be cut to aize) and pleased we did as the sun rises in the window of the master bedroom! Gorgeous views all arpund, farm and countryside one way and sea views the other, and very friendly horses! We even saw Dolphins in the sea. Overall a peaceful and tranquil setting perfect for our short family get away! Would definitely recommend!

New Years Stay

We've stayed in this absolute gem of a "mini castle" (as our kids call it) and will definitely stay again. Cute, cosy, well appointed, loads of character, near some beautiful walks, no neighbours but some horses..... what more could you want! Owners brought us up a set of scales to do some new years eve party baking within 20 minutes of calling them. 5 stars all the way.

Beautiful getaway

The tower is decorated lovely, it's comfortable, homely and immaculately clean with everything we needed in the kitchen. Set away from any main road it's perfect for quiet down time surrounded by fields. It's perfectly situated for visiting lots of beaches nearby and a short drive to Durham and the famous Seaham Hall beach for collecting sea glass.
