Luxury Villa North Devon | Hot-tub | Garden | Parking | Sleeps 13 | nr coast
Compass House is an elegant and spacious Victorian villa on the edge of Barnstaple and offers a superb base for a holiday exploring the delights of North Devon. This grand and stylish house, tastefully refurbished to a high standard by new owners, can sleep up to 13 people in 6 large bedrooms, including the Master-ensuite with a Four-poster bed. It is ideal for large family gatherings and special occasions. With parking for 3 cars, a private enclosed garden and a large hot tub, Compass House offers its guests a luxurious home from home.
The house is located in Newport on the southern edge of Barnstaple – one of the town’s conservation areas with many historic buildings. Newport is easily accessible from the main road routes into North Devon, the A361 North Devon Link Road and the A39 Atlantic Highway, and within a short distance of the region’s world-class surfing beaches, including Croyde, Woolacombe and Saunton, as well as the glorious wild beauty of Exmoor National Park, where you can enjoy a huge range of outdoor activities.
Originally the home of prominent local architect William Clement Oliver, it is full of period charm and character, with tiled entrance hall, high ceilings and traditional fireplaces. (It also has superfast broadband and a good mobile phone signal – still a rarity in some North Devon rural and coastal areas.) It is just a few minutes’ walk from Barnstaple’s lovely Rock Park beside the River Taw, as well as restaurants, pubs, shops, cinema and theatre.
There is plenty of space, indoors and out, for a large group to holiday together at Compass House, without getting under each other’s feet. The house is well laid out with a light and airy living room, a formal dining room with wood-burner and table seating 12+, and a well-equipped kitchen. This has 2 large fridges, 2 freezers and 2 ovens and some little extras too, such as a coffee machine, crepe-maker, juicer and slow cooker.
The comfort of guests at Compass House is always given the highest priority, and the six double bedrooms are all sumptuously decorated and have superior orthopaedic grade mattresses on the beds. The master bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom and boasts a stunning romantic Superking four-poster bed.
Children will love the south-facing garden with summer house, as well as the indoor second-floor games room with 7’ table offering ping pong, air hockey and pool. There is even a large no-spring 12-foot trampoline and a double-swing. There is also a video games room, with Xbox360 and Wii. For the little ones, this is a perfect house for Hide and Seek, with a secret second staircase for them to discover.
Compass House provides everything you need for an ideal holiday, whether you are a surfer or a sand castle maker, an Exmoor explorer or an ‘enjoy-the-view’ visitor. At the end of your day of adventures, you can head back to Compass House to relax and unwind. Get the sausages sizzling on the barbeque or simply climb into the hot tub with a large glass of bubbly.
Whatever your choice, we look forward to welcoming you.

Amazing house for a large family which is very well equipped. Really nice enclosed and safe garden. We made frequent use of the hot tub and bbq (choice of gas or coals)
The house is in a nice quiet location and an easy walk to centre of Barnstaple.
Allie and Richard were fantastic hosts. Would highly recommend

About the host
Hosted by Allie Tate
Fell in love with North Devon and moved here in 2017. Love the friendly people, the stunning coast and moors and access to outdoor activities including tennis, rowing, kayaking and just walking along the beaches and the South West Coast Path.
Why they chose this property
Gorgeous Victorian Villa with high ceilings, beautiful features and all mod-cons. Gateway to North Devon coast and moor, so all the best of both worlds - access to Barnstaple and amenities but easy access to beaches and surrounding villages without getting stuck there.
