About this property

Upside down house near beach with stunning view over the moor to the ocean

This is a upside down house with four bedrooms and a loft with a double futon over the living room-dining room. The loft leads to a widow's walk with a fabulous view of Hummock pond and the ocean and the extensive moor (one can actually see the steeple of the Congregational Church in town 2,5 miles away.) There is a jacuzzi for two and 2.5 bath rooms. The master bedroom is on the second floor with a queen-size bed. There are three bedrooms on the first floor, one with a ueen size bed and a fireplace and the others with twin beds. There is a fieldstone fireplace in the living room that reaches up to a cathedral-like ceiling. There is a library with some 100 books that relate in some way to Nantucket, A deck runs the full length of the front of the house. From it there is n unobstructive, stunning view over the moor to the ocean. The morning sun follows a gorgeous sun-rise ( It is worth to see it with a mist over the moor) and floods the deck and provides an ideal place for breakfast. The view of the sky is also spectacular due to the ability to see so much more of it from the flat terrain. At night as one lays in bed can one may hear the surf pounding on the beach There is also a deck on the back side of the house from which one can enjoy the spectacular sunsets. The beach is a 5-10 minutes walk down an unsurfaced road. There is also a life-guard beach close by if one prefers that. There are two bikes at the house which will get you to the beach in a couple of minutes. Nearby there is Bartletts farm that has in addition to its own fresh vegetables anything one would require for any type of meal Their tomatoes are worth a trip there alone!. Close by also is a fish store with the absolute freshest fish you would find anywhere. As if that is not enough there is the Cisco brewery that provides tours of the facility where they describe their process of brewing the beer and beer tasting of their many different beers. They also make very high class whisky and vodka. There is a different band that plays there everyday and the atmosphere is festive, particularly at the end of the beach day. One can easily avoid going into the busy town.

Fun location

Slightly out of town but with a bike path to many local places. Nantucket beaches are so beautiful and a surf beach was not far away. This house was fun to stay in.

Great Stay for Christmas Stroll

We enjoyed our stay for the Christmas stroll weekend. The house is in a great location, walkable to Cisco Brewers, Bartlett Farm, and the beach. It worked well for a group trip. One note on the description - this house comfortably sleeps 8, not 10. The final bedroom meant to sleep 2 people is a loft accessible only by ladder, with a small mattress on the floor. Overall we would recommend and thank the host for our stay!

Great Location

Great location and house layout! House has everything needed but can use a little sprucing up, especially bedding and linens. There is no a/c as listed and the home does get warm.

Quiet and relaxing

We enjoyed our time here immensely. All we wanted to do was relax, and the setting was perfect for our needs; quiet, close to the beach, a pleasant bike into town. Definitely nostalgic of a typical old beach house. The layout would have been challenging had we been traveling with more than two couples (there are plenty of single beds), but it was perfect for us. Amazing view. Would absolutely stay here again!

Quiet and Lots of Room

You can tell that this is a house that has been well used and well loved! The upper deck was our favorite spot -- the view of moors was beautiful. The ocean was a constant background sound, and an easy 5 minute walk down a quiet, sandy lane. There were just two people total in our group, but there was certainly room for at least 6 more. Many corners and nooks for lounging and reading. Unfortunately we could not use the widow's walk as we did not realize it was accessed by a climb up a vertical ladder, with an awkward transition to a loft that would have involved wiggling and sliding on our bellies -- not a task for two middle aged ladies with back and hip complaints! It would have been nice to know that in the property description. However, the owner was quick to respond (through VRBO messaging) to our questions about check-in, trash, and a neighbor complaining about lights. All in all, this house perfectly fit our needs for quiet, comfort, and beach access. Add Cisco Brewery (good beer and live music) and Bartlett Farm Market (great prepared food and baked goods) just around the corner and we were happy indeed. Note: the driveway to the house comes in from the street behind the house -- not the street that is the house's address!

Great spring visit with our family

Water views from inside and from the many decks, easy walking access to an extraordinary beach, and loads of parking. The house had everything we needed (full kitchen, washing machines, good internet, enough beds for everyone, beach toys, board games, books, fluffy towels, etc) and felt like a cozy beach home. The house is filled with beautiful paintings of the surrounding area by the owner! My kids loved the loft and widow’s walk. It was springtime so while it was not prime beach swimming weather it made for some beautiful non crowded visits all over the island. We found a baby seal resting on the beach right at our beach access. The location is great for beach within walking distance, a few more places are a short bike ride away and the rest of the island is a short easy drive. The neighborhood roads are sand/ dirt roads with deep tracks and pot holes so don’t drive a low clearance vehicle here. We would love to come back again

Great Home + Great Location = Great Stay

I visited Nantucket over Memorial Day Weekend with 9 friends and we could not have asked for a better stay. The house and location were outstanding, and although the weather did not cooperate, the view was not to be beat. Plenty of space for everyone, a manageable distance from town, close to the beach, and close to Cisco brewary/Bartlett's Farm. What more could you ask for? Steve was a great host, highly communicative, and answered all of my questions quickly. Two decades ago, my family stayed in this home - a fact I learned shortly before our stay. The house once again provided many great memories, as I hope it will for all future guests.

Fantastic Stay!

A perfect property for a small celebration with family! Excellent location. Amazing sunsets from the widow’s walk! Nearby seafood market, farm market and Cisco Brewery only enhanced the experience. We highly recommend this property no matter the occasion.

Wow! Like No Other Place on Earth!

Even as a hard grader, if I could give a sixth star to Moor Vu I would. Nantucket vacation dreamers for years, we finally took the plunge in October 2015 and booked this amazing home for a multi-day escape with family. We loved it so much we booked again in October 2016 and hope to repeat this trend indefinitely. The six of us had plenty of room. We could have easily brought three or four more folks with us and remained comfortable. You can feel the love in every room from the caring owners who clearly spend time there regularly and share with guests their appreciation of fine art, literature, cuisine and local color. Outside, the gardens are a delight, as is the overall quiet, away from it all vibe which permeates not only the Moor Vu grounds themselves, but the neighborhood which surrounds it. On nearly a full three sides, you see protected conservation land extending all the way out to the ocean. For those of us demanding day job city dwellers, who appreciate the rarest of natural settings as the very best places to think, write and breathe, can't miss experiences such as short walks down to Cisco Beach to birdwatch and play among the surfers there catching waves are unforgettable. We savored our daily bike rides around the island, often to find favorite lighthouses, and we loved to pedal back to Cisco at sunset to visit the local brewery (ciscobrewers.com). Always a fun group there, with free live music, games and locally crafted beer, wine and spirits. After unwinding for an hour or two, we frequently took a growler and a hard cider to go, then return to Moor Vu to cook a homemade meal, in part made from Bartlett Farm (bartlettsfarm.com) produce, also a stone throw away. After supper and some boardgames and cards, the few of us who prefer a longer night would climb up to the roof deck and spend some quality time there with a blanket, most nights enjoying some of the most amazing shooting stars I've ever seen in this hemisphere. Morning people, sunrises at Moor Vu are exceptional, too. Though I missed most of them because I was so relaxed I slept great every night while visiting, I never missed a delicious home-cooked breakfast, enjoyed most mornings from the wraparound outdoor deck on the second floor. Choosing this spectacular Nantucket vacation oasis will be one of best decisions you make all year. For our Family, we can't wait to return...

Learn from our mistake-

I'm sure this is a beautiful home in a wonderful location, however, renters learn from our mistake... The conditions for renting this property are not listed on VRBO, and will only be sent to the renter when a 50% deposit is paid. Between the time we paid the deposit, and received the contract, outlining cancelation policy, our plans changed. Naturally, we didn't sign the contract and contacted the owner. Initially the owner agreed to refund our deposit, our booking was for 9 months in the future, however, several days later he changed his mind. All communication ended at this point, despite multiple emails from me. We never saw a penny returned, despite not signing their contract. It is sad, this is the first negative experience we have had booking on VRBO.

Nature and Privacy in a Heavenly Setting

We had a absolutely wonderful stay at “Moor-Vu” on Nantucket Island. The house is quite beautiful and the ocean can be seen from most of the windows around the house and from the double porch decks. Everything is meticulously appointed and the master bedroom is a dream come true. I know this sounds dramatic, but my entire family will back me up on this. The house has everything one needs. It feels very private and looks out over acres of wonderful marshland and ocean. The living room and fireplace were delightful locations for reading, playing board games and enjoying the vista. Bike and car paths take you wherever you need to go. My 10 year old daughter loved climbing the stairs to the loft (and sleeping up there), then heading up with us to the roof-deck which is safe and thrilling. A marvelous view, way up high. We could easily walk or ride the bikes (provided for the guests of Moor-Vu) to the beach in no-time at all. What greets you there is surf and sand that seems to go on forever. Finally, we found the owners to be friendly and reachable by phone, though we had everything we needed. This is a home one can return to and fall in love with nature all over again. We loved it! MOOR-VU Remembered

MOOR-VU Remembered ©2015 Edward T Johnson If ever you should choose to visit one of the most magical places on the Island of Nantucket, be sure to secure an early reservation to vacation at MOOR-VU located at One Austine Locke Way. No words are sufficient to capture the joy I experienced on this my maiden voyage to MOOR-VU! So understated in its pristine setting off an unpaved dirt road, only a short distance from Cisco Beach, MOOR-VU commands unobstructed views over the moors to the crystal blue waters beyond! Deliriously happy my two days there, my guest quarters appointments left nothing to be desired. My hosts put me up in a large bedroom replete with timeless artwork adorning the walls, and a robust fieldstone fireplace! My bed linen was clean, fresh, and the Ralph Lauren pillows were just the best! From my room I drifted off to sleep, cradled in the ocean breezes wafting through my window. I spent a fair amount of time with my hosts on the upstairs seaward deck over early morning coffee and good conversation. My last night it rained, enveloping the moors in a cloud of mist under a dark moonlit canopy. I hated to pack my gear to return to my home in Boston. I wondered why I had waited so many years to experience this place I had helped to create. I finally made it. I am the architect.

Picturesque, private and accessbile

This is a perfect weekend getaway from NYC. You can rent a car at the airport or even bike around since there is a brand new bike path from the house that branches to town and elsewhere on the island. The house is located on conservation moor land with a view of Cisco Beach. The beach is a quiet 5 minute walk down a private road. It is well equipped with a private master bedroom upstairs that is separated from the other 4 bedrooms downstairs. The space is lofty, yet cozy and everything was in nice shape when we arrived. My husband and I love cooking and getting things to eat from our surroundings so Nantucket is a paradise for this. We picked blueberries for muffins in the moors in front of the house, went crabbing and clamming so we had quite a feast as well as a fun time catching and foraging for our food. If you're not that kind of person, Cisco brewery hosts a really fun happy hour every afternoon which is 5 minutes away. There's a local farm for groceries as well as the best fish stand on Nantucket 5 minutes up the road.

Peaceful Beach retreat - Wonderful house

The house is beautiful with eveything you need. It is large enough for a group to come and each have sufficient space (large bedrooms) but also has a beautiful living room and dining area for folks to get together. The porches look out on conservation land so you always have a view, no houses in the way. It is really peaceful and you really have the sense of being away - but still a short walk to the beach. . A group of us have been renting the house of a long weekend every fall for many years and look forward to it each year. We almost never leave, and if we do it's only to go to Bartlett farms or a nearby fresh fish store to get provisions for our meals. It's only a shiort bike ride or drive from Nantucket town but you might just want to hang out in the house as we do.. .

Spectacular property with breathtaking ocean views

It is on extreme rare occasion that I write a review of this nature. However, this property is so unique and special that it warrants comment. This spacious, warm, clean, comfortable and inviting home, with unobstructed breathtaking ocean views, is located in Cisco, one of the most pristine areas on Nantucket. Cisco is an unadulterated area of Nantucket that exudes peace and tranquility like no other place that I have ever been and this wonderful property enhances that allure. This unique home has all the amenities of any FIVE STAR resort and I can say with the utmost confidence that your vacation will be forever memorable. We have had the pleasure of visiting this property many times over the years and the owners have always treated us with great dignity and respect and they always made the transition into their home enjoyable. With boundless activities, sightseeing, gorgeous beaches, endless oceans views, countless nearby restaurants, our vacation at this residence is always fulfilling. This home truly captures the beauty and essence of Nantucket.
