About this property
Beautiful Character House in Muir of Ord
Located just north of Inverness at the start of the NC500. This character house is very well located in the countryside, for a highland getaway. There is a lobby, open plan reception/dining area, kitchen, two double bedrooms, a cosy bunk bed room, games/tv room room, shower room and bathroom. Guests can bring one well-behaved dog and have their own garden to use, with an enclosure. Feel free to look at our website. welcometohighfieldhouse.com
The space
This quirky property has lots of character. There is a large open plan dining area, games room, a well-proportioned and well equipped kitchen, two double bedrooms, and a cosy bunk bed room that doubles as a work space. A comfortable travel cot is available for use as well. The family bathroom boasts a walk-in shower , WC and luxurious stand-alone bath. A second shower room and WC is located downstairs.
Guests can entertain themselves in the games room which offers a large TV, seating area with sofa bed, table football and a selection of board games. There is an additional seating area downstairs as well.
Within the large south-facing garden there is a picnic area with deckchairs and a secure enclosure for children and dogs. Off-road parking accommodates up to 3 cars.
The host lives at the property in a self-contained flat with its own entrance.
Guest access
Muir of Ord is approximately half a mile away. It has a train station, small supermarket, bakery, two pubs, a petrol station, library and several cafes. There is a large Tesco in Dingwall and a medium sized Co-Op in Beauly (both about 10 minutes drive away). A bus route between Dingwall and Inverness passes the house. From Muir of Ord station guests can travel to The Highland capital of Inverness, the stunning west coast of Scotland or north-east to places like Tain, Dornoch and Golspie.
There is also the Chapleton Horse Riding Centre nearby. It would be worth booking in advance if this interests you.
Other things to note
You'll notice there are two listings for this property. During the summer months we offer the whole house for let. During the off season, the host lives onsite.
Pets
Guests can bring upto two well-behaved dogs, however they must stay downstairs and not be left unattended at the property. When in the garden, please make sure they are on a lead or within the enclosure as there are farm animals in the adjacent fields. Please note, there isn't fencing around the entire site, so children and dogs should be kept in the enclosure when unattended.
Technology
The house has wifi accessible throughout the whole house. Speeds usually range between 10-14 mb. There is a 32 inch Toshiba smart tv downstairs and a Panasonic Viera 42 inch tv with Amazon Fire stick upstairs. There is no tv aerial but live tv and catch-up can be accessed through various apps on both televisions. There is a Netflix account on both and freeview apps are set up on each device.
An Amazon Alexa device is in the kitchen, where guests can login with their account details.
Covid 19
We've signed up to the enhanced clean protocol on Airbnb. Hand sanitiser is provided throughout the house.
Sustainability
Here at Highfield House we are very keen to embrace an eco-friendly philosophy.
The property is heated through an air sourced heat pump, which keeps it cosy throughout the Scottish winters. The hot water is also heated using the heat pump, using 100% renewable electricity.
We also have a heat composting bin in the garden for all food waste. This produces compost much quicker than a standard compost bin. You can put any food waste in here and a food caddy is provided in the kitchen.
We're very conscious about re-cycling here. Items to be re-cycled include plastics, cans, tins, paper and cardboard, but not glass. I take glass to the bottle bank after each stay.
We use environmentally friendly products within the house for some of the cleaning and washing activities. Washing up liquid, laundry detergent, fabric softner/conditioner, hand soap and dishwasher tablets are provided for guests.
Buying food and drink products locally is also something that we encourage (plus it’s very tasty!), please speak to your host for recommendations.
