The owners of this unique property are a dynamic and creative duo. One half of this vibrant pair is a skilled builder, possessing a keen eye for structural design and a deep respect for preserving historical architecture. The other half is a musician and artist, infusing the property with a touch of artistic flair and charm.
Together, they have lovingly transformed this property, marrying their skills to create a unique blend of history, art, and modernity. Why they chose this property
Our property was originally an orchard, complete with a small house meant for the maintenance staff. We transformed this modest house into a modern villa now located in the middle of our and neighbouring gardens and old, protected trees. It's a quiet place where many birds have made their nests. You can often spot herons, jays and woodpeckers.
We are also a registered habitat for the protected Stag Beetle species, which resides in the intentionally placed decaying wood in specifically designated parts of our garden. These beetles are a rare sight, given that their transformation from larvae to beetle takes a span of 5-6 years. While they are harmless and large in size, their noise is significantly loud. Sightings of them in flight are uncommon, but when witnessed, it's quite a beautiful and memorable experience.
The villa sits atop a hill, a site that was bombed during the Second World War. Concealed bunkers were scattered around the river, positioned strategically to attack enemy airplanes. These aircraft would follow the reflection of the Thames during the night, a time when navigational tools were not as advanced. As a result of the bombing, the hill has an unusual shape, resembling more of a crater than a typically smooth, rolling hill. This location is steeped in history and drama, making it an incredibly interesting place.

What makes this property unique
This property's uniqueness lies primarily in its historical significance, natural beauty, and commitment to conservation. The modern villa is not only a transformation of a former maintenance house, but it's also a testament to the site's rich history, particularly its role during the Second World War. The unusual hill shape, the result of past bombings, adds an interesting character to the property.
The property's interior design is a remarkable blend of the old and the new, adding another layer to its uniqueness. The house has been renovated to incorporate modern construction and design elements while preserving and celebrating its original features. The result is a seamless fusion of historic charm and contemporary style.
Modern amenities have been thoughtfully integrated to ensure comfort and convenience, yet they don't overshadow the historic character of the building. Original architectural elements have been preserved and are beautifully complemented by contemporary aesthetics. This harmony between the past and the present, history and modernity, is a defining feature of the house's interior design, making it a unique, comfortable and welcoming living space.
The beautiful gardens and the mature, protected trees provide a serene, natural oasis that is home to a variety of birds. Moreover, the intentional fostering of a habitat for the rare and protected Stag Beetles shows a unique commitment to wildlife conservation. This harmonious blend of history, nature, and conservation makes the property truly unique.
