Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Town: Sitting at the southern tip of the Rosneath Peninsula, Kilcreggan is host to a collection of impressive houses dating from the days when many wealthy Glasgow merchants had summer homes away from the city, and the popularity of the steamship allowed easy access from the southern shore of the Clyde estuary. The pier at Kilcreggan is the only remaining Victorian pier on the Clyde and is still in use, with a passenger ferry crossing the river to Gourock. There are a number of local shops and cafes in the village and also a few miles along the coast in Rosneath, while the nearby village of Cove is home to the spectacular Linn Botanic Gardens. The peninsula boasts spectacular mountain scenery with excellent woodland and coastal walking and cycling. There are several options for dining out on the peninsula, including the The Creggans Bar, with a larger selection in the Helensburgh area, including pubs, takeaways and cafes.

Breath taking views. Tranquil location can hear a pin drop all day. The property overall is clean. The kitchen area could perhaps do with a little spring clean especially inside the cupboards. The bedding and towels are lovely and clean and smell fresh. Our real concern in relation to house keeping was the bathroom bin had not been emptied from previous guests and had used sanitary products in it. Perhaps a final check is needed. Communication from the owner was zero. We understand from the agents that the owner had an incorrect email address for us so their welcome pack email sent to us bounced back. VRBO and Sykes cottages had the correct address so a quick check from the owner with them would have resolved it. As it was we guessed about how everything worked, rubbish disposal, the area and final day arrangements. There was no information in the lodge. Fortunately Sykes cottages sent keycodeStorage for clothing is limited if there are four guests. This is made worse by the fact half the wardrobe space in the main bedroom is padlocked and cannot be used. The main disappointment and reason for only an ok rating was the uncomfortable mattresses, otherwise the scores would be very high. We went to this location for peace and quiet and to get some well needed rest. The beds prevented this. We could not sleep and they were so uncomfortable we developed back pain. We were told via Sykes cottages it was a new mattress. It was still not good to sleep on. We bought an airbed.
