About this property

Tara Cottage - a quirky, cosy, quiet, traditional cottage with private garden.

Near the centre of the seaside town of Dunoon and a few minutes walk from the ferry, Tara Cottage is both magical and cosy. This traditional stone cottage has been tastefully renovated. It has a feature stone wall, woodburning stove with oven, mezzanine loft area, hanging chair, corner bath, a generous porch with glass roof to view the stars (or rain!) and a private garden with fruit trees.

Film buffs may recognise it as the location for the seance in lockdown breakout horror film, Host.

Other things to note
This is my home, which I'm letting while away for the summer. I'd love to welcome people who will enjoy the house but I'd ask you to please treat it as you would the home of a good friend. My neighbours are delightful so I'd be very grateful if you could be respectful with noise levels and generally be nice to them!

About the host

Hosted by Seylan Baxter

Host profile image
I'm Seylan, a musician and actor with a degree in languages (French, Spanish and Portuguese). Tara Cottage is my home, lovingly renovated and made cosy. I enjoy renting it out to people who'll enjoy its quirks.

While it's being rented I either stay on a boat or at a friend's or sometimes I stay in the cabin in the garden but I don't bother guests and they have exclusive use of the house and patio area.

Why they chose this property

Originally from near Glasgow, I moved to Dunoon 11 years ago after falling in love with Tara Cottage. I'd just spent a few years living in Helensburgh and had sworn to always live within easy access of the sea if at all possible.

What makes this property unique

Tara Cottage is cosy and quirky. The view from its south facing windows suggest it's in the countryside but it's actually surrounded by other houses (with lovely neighbours) and very close to the passenger ferry and town plus to the beach at West Bay. There's pedestrian access only to the cottage but free parking is available nearby.

It has a hanging chair, a corner bath, a worktop height kitchen table with barstools, a woodburning stove with oven, a porch with glass roof and a private garden with fruit trees and a patio.

The cottage is open plan except for the bathroom with exposed beams and open loft stairs to the mezzanine area so it's not suitable for people with mobility issues, children, or pets. Feel free to contact me for more information on this and I'll help you decide if it's suitable for you.
