There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Fabulous location: 1 minute from the bus station, and central to shops & restaurants. The kitchen was spacious and generously equipped. The bed was comfortable. Towels were of good quality and the hot water was plentiful. The shower temperature was easily controlled, as was the heat. I definitely recommend Birchcroft.
Great property to stay at. So central for everything in Ambleside. Property is well appointed. Great living room, good dining area and kitchen so well furnished, with washing machine and a dishwasher. Property was well stocked. The 2 bedrooms upstairs are a generous size, one with en-suite and the other had the main Bathroom right beside it. Good showers and lovely towels. Bedding was like hotel bedding. My only slight, and I mean slight constructive bit of criticism, is that the pillows in the en-suite bedroom could be doing with renewing. They are so lumpy and bumpy, but apart from that, excellent stay and we would use it again.
