About this property
il Mulino - Antique Flour & Olive Mill of the noble Torrigiani family near Lucca
il Mulino Torrigiani is roughly 50 minutes by Autostrada from either the International Airport of Florence, or the domestic Airport of Pisa. Our Mulino offers easy access to many regional points of interest and your on-site hosts Doris & Douglas are very knowledgeable of the area and happy to help you plan your day trips and booking local restaurants.
You will need your own car to reach il Mulino, which is located in the lovely scenic hills about 12 kilometres from the picturesque, walled city of Lucca. We are centrally located for convenient day trips to Lucca (15 minutes), Pisa and the sea-side beaches of Viareggio (40 minutes) and Montecatini, the famous spa town (20 minutes). About 50 minutes by car to Florence, or you can drive your car to a nearby train station and from there, it is a pleasant hour by train to the Florence station in the center of town, thereby avoiding traffic and parking problems. We are about 1 hour and 30 minutes to Siena, and roughly 1 hour and 40 minutes to the Cinque Terre. There are several small lovely restaurants among the vineyards nearby for a relaxing dinner after a day’s travels.
Our guests find it very relaxing to return “home” after a day’s travels with a glass of wine on our private bridge or commune with nature at our own private waterfall. Open the windows in the evening to enjoy the fresh mountain air and sleep to the sound of our bubbling brook which flows directly under il Mulino Torrigiani.

About the host
Hosted by Doris Fortino
Your on-site hosts Doris & Douglas saw il Mulino Torrigiani for the first time on a two-week vacation to the Lucca area in 1998 to visits Doris's local family. They fell in love with the property and decided to leave their careers as Advertising Art Directors and start new careers owing and operating a vacation rental property. Both English and Italian speaking they have gained a wide array of local knowledge over their 25 years of living in the hills of Lucca and are here to help you make the most of your travel experience.
Why they chose this property
“We originally decided on the Lucca area because Doris's mother is from here and Doris has many cousins in the area. Then, after coming across such a unique property with unlimited potential, that was all it took for us to make the plunge, change our lives, and we never looked back.”
What makes this property unique
Many homes in Tuscany offer panoramic views. You pour yourself a glass of wine, pull up a chair, place your back to your house and look out at the Tuscan landscape that is famous world-wide.
il Mulino Torrigiani is the exact opposite of that. Our home is the view. Nestled in a valley and south facing, il Mulino Torrigiani sits on its own bridge with the river Dezza gently flowing under it. Relax in the seating area on your own bridge. Pour a glass of wine and light a fire in our above-ground fire pit and listen to “la musica” (the music) of the Dezza as it flows under you.
Meander in the back yard in your own garden. Have breakfast at your private table and converse with the flowers and the birds. Here it could be 300 years ago as the sounds of civilisation are kept at bay by the sounds of nature. Walk the path, cross the footbridge and read a book by your own private waterfall.
il Mulino Torrigiani is truly a unique property and one theat must be personally experienced, to be fully enjoy.
