If you haven’t visited the Lucca area in the past, you will find it to be a pleasant surprise. There is biking and walking on the tree-lined road at the top of the Renaissance wall that surrounds the Historic City Centre of Lucca. The cafes are teeming with pastries & artisan chocolates and gelato shops are filled to the brim with local specialties. Enjoy many great restaurants and a wonderful, pedestrian-only shopping district.
There are classical music and Puccini concerts in the church of San Giovanni Battista (around the corner from the Cathedral of San Martino), every evening featuring works of Mozart, Puccini, Verdi and other Italian composers. All of this, because Lucca is the birthplace of opera composer Giacomo Puccini. If Opera is not to your taste, Lucca also offers the Lucca Summer Music Festival each July attracting many rock acts both new and old.
il Mulino Torrigiani is roughly 50 minutes by Autostrada from either the International Airport of Florence, or the domestic Airport of Pisa. You will need your own car to reach il Mulino Torrigiani, which is located in the lovely scenic hills about 12 kilometres from the picturesque, walled city of Lucca.
Centrally located, guests have easy access to many regional points of interest and your on-site hosts Doris & Douglas are very knowledgeable of the area and happy to help you plan your day trips and book local restaurants. The historic walled city of Lucca is 20 minutes by car, Pisa and the sea-side beaches of Viareggio 40 minutes and Montecatini, the famous spa town is 20 minutes. About 50 minutes by car to Florence, or you can drive your car to a nearby train station and from there, it is a pleasant hour by train to the Florence station in the center of town, thereby avoiding traffic and parking problems. We are about 1 hour and 30 minutes to Siena, and roughly 1 hour and 40 minutes to the Cinque Terre. There are several small lovely restaurants among the vineyards nearby for a relaxing dinner after a day’s travels.
Our guests find it very relaxing to return “home” after a day’s touring and pour a glass of local wine from one of many near-by vineyards on our private bridge or commune with nature at our own private waterfall. Open the windows in the evening to enjoy the fresh mountain air and sleep to the sound of our bubbling brook which flows directly under il Mulino Torrigiani.
