The Cottage on the Hill is set on 5 acres of meadow and woodland, surrounded by a mountain view. The site is spectacular in any season -- a perfect place to rejuvenate and recharge! Picture morning coffee on the front porch. Scenery that inspires. A field where kids can run and play, with a woodsy backyard to explore. Good meals with family and friends. Sunsets and star-lit sky. Time and space to relax.

The house is convenient to many of the area's most appealing sites: Catskill hiking trails, the Woodstock cultural scene, Mohonk Preserve, Minnewaska State Park, farm-to-table restaurants, orchards and wineries, the Ashokan Center for music and dance, and Hudson Valley historic sites. Shops and services are 10 minutes away in Stone Ridge. And it is just a short drive to walking or biking along the always beautiful Ashokan reservoir.

The sun-filled home features parquet floors and vintage details with updated finishes. The living room has a bluestone fireplace, walnut paneling, two leather couches, a smart TV, DVD player, CD player, and new turntable. A well-equipped kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to prepare a great meal. It leads to a dining porch with a table for six. The classic tiled bathroom includes a shower and tub. Three bedrooms offer comfortable sleeping for five to six people (two bedrooms each have a double bed, the third has 2 twin beds). A reliable heating system will keep you warm if nights are chilly. In summer, window air conditioners and ceiling fans will help keep you cool. WiFi is provided; and cell service on the hill is excellent.

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely cottage! The unique hardwood floors throughout give the space so much character, and everything was spotless when we arrived. The host was very responsive and made sure we had everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked. We loved the quiet setting up on the hill with a nice view, and it was just a short drive to the Ashokan Center where we were attending a bluegrass camp. A perfect spot for comfort, convenience, and charm—we’d be happy to stay here again.

Wonderful and remote rustic cottage

Our family of three could not have been happier here during our Autumn stay. With the understanding that this is a cottage, we were thrilled with its comfort and location. It's with obvious love that the home is furnished and maintained. Wonderful, rustic touches abound and services such as heat and internet access, are excellent. The host was very communicative and promptly assisted us with a smooth check-in. Personally, this is exactly what I look for in an escape from the City and I hope we might stay here again soon!

Charming house on a hill with great views of the mountains and the reservoir. Super comfortable. Great cable and Smart TV options. Beds and pillows are comfortable; linens are great cotton. Lots of overhead fans. Great screened-in porch. Tons of kitchen stuff - pots/pans, utensils, spices. Dorothy is super helpful and responsive to any needs that arise. It's a great place to stay - all seasons!

Overall very pleasant isolated cabin with great views and great hiking. Just bring all your groceries as nearest supermarket is a little drive away. In addition, to get nearest newspaper, if you’ enjoy reading paper- newspaper with breakfast then be prepared to drive 7 miles in the morning. Yep, we are still old fashion and like that paper.

We were two couples staying at the Cottage on the Hill. I would highly recommend this place and would go back any time. Everything is as described and more. The location is dreamy, with a wonderful view. And only a 15 minute drive to the center of Stone Ridge.The place is well maintained and very clean We ate out at the various restaurants in the area and ate in as well. The kitchen is fully equipped, as described. It also was well stocked with spices for preparing meals. In addition there is a large gas barbeque outside as well as a fire oven. The rooms were spacious with hanging closet space and chest of drawers. Dorothy was always available via texting and emails. All her instructions were very clear. We would go back there anytime.

Peaceful and relaxing

Beautiful! Accurate listing. SUPER clean and extremely (EXTREMELY) well appointed! Beds are on the firm side, which was ok with me. House stayed cool even without AC on, despite 85 sunny degrees (plenty of fans abound!), though the sun room was too warm in the afternoon (but great in the morning and evening). Reservoir/Promenade and Ashokan Quarry Trail just a short drive away. Lots of choices for dining nearby. Great food, service and atmosphere at The Pines in Mt Tremper. But we ate in most nights as we found it hard to peel ourselves away from that front porch. Watched deer munch grass and play in the yard EVERY dusk! Might want to bring some firewood if you plan on using the fireplaces (available at My Town Marketplace on 209/Main St). Neighbors are near-ish but area was quiet and tranquil. Host is helpful and communicative if needed. Easy check in/out. Great place, would rent again for sure!

Best of both worlds at a reasonable price

Loved our stay! This rental offers best of both worlds - a quiet living space, private woodsy backyard, and serene panoramic view, but also a central location and perfect jumping off point to explore the rest of the Catskills. The home is extremely clean, cozy, and very well-stocked with everything one could want - extensive kitchen equipment, full cabinets with glass and dinnerware, pots and pans, bakeware, utensils, coffee/tea stuff, spices, cooking and cleaning essentials.. The bedrooms are perfectly comfortable, with a mix of both soft and firm style mattresses. Plenty of extra blankets and comforters in the closets, ceiling fans in most rooms, and also small fans and heaters available for the back porch, etc if needed. As a group of 4 women (2 in their 70’s, 2 in their 50’s) we were very comfortable here and extremely pleased with our choice. In between our Catskills explorations, we enjoyed dining on the back porch, and evening movies and card games in the living room. The living room offers a variety of comfortable seating options, a large screen TVs with cable, lots of dvd choices, and a working fireplace. We thought it was cozy and comfortable, and spent many evening hours there. Some rentals are just houses with bare bones essentials. This was a home - with all of the little conveniences you would expect to find in your own home. The owner, Dorothy, was quick to respond the few times we emailed with random questions. She was consistently responsive, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They had the best guestbook of instructions, information, and local recommendations that I think I’ve ever seen in a rental - super helpful. FYI: There are some excellent local dining choices nearby. (We highly recommend The Roost for fantastic dinners and breakfasts.) We loved our time here, and would have no second thoughts about renting this home again!

Wonderful Weekend Away!

This adorable property was PERFECT for our trip upstate! Amazing view of the Ashokan Reservoir and a cute, chic, and cozy interior that can sleep up to 6 comfortably. We felt like we were in a movie waking up to these mountain views and the beautiful sounds of nature. Equipped with many amenities and a front porch, this is definitely the spot to go an unwind! The host has done a wonderful job with this place and we will definitely be back!

Such a perfect little getaway!

We had such a lovely experience at the cottage for a week. Dorothy left such helpful materials and suggestions for things to do, we were never bored. The views of the mountains are so beautiful and a delight to watch change with the different light and weather everyday. The house was so well organized and it was easy to find anything we might need. It is the kind of place you walk into and just know is full of love and good vibes. We immediately felt at home even though we are city folks and were a bit scared of bears/wildlife at first haha! It was quite hot during our stay, but I bet it is gorgeous in the fall and would be so cozy with a warm fire — would love to go back for that!

Cottage with a View

We (four total) loved staying in this charming cottage with our adult children. It was quiet and peaceful and we felt at home right away. Dorothy the owner was always quick to respond to any questions we had. The cottage was well supplied with all household needs, including kitchenwares, DVDs, music, games and books. Watching sunsets from the porch was a treat. We had a very nice partial view of Ashokan Reservoir and the surrounding hills. The two room ACs kept the house cool on the hottest days with the help of fans. There was no washer or dryer on site, so we had to drive a ways to find a laundry service. Also an extra bathroom would have been nice. We would definitely stay here again.

Cottage with view of Catskill mountains

We loved our stay in this beautifully located cottage up at the end of a quiet street. It was super clean and organized, with a well stocked kitchen. It has all the amenities one would ask for in a cottage, a lovely sun room from which one can enjoy breathtaking sunsets, a front porch and outdoor fireplace. The cottage stays cool during hot days. We only needed the A/C's when the temps went up above 90 deg.. There are many lovely trails in close vicinity. Woodstock and other towns are within short short distance. We would love to come back in the near future.

We have spent a lifetime of summers here! Built in the 1940's by our grandfather, a European craftsman living in Brooklyn, the cottage and its surrounding acres have been carefully tended, upgraded, and enjoyed by our family for four generations. There is no place we would rather be!

Why they chose this property

If you head out in any direction you will find something interesting. The town center of Stone Ridge, 15 minutes away, has most of what you need: a good grocery, a historic library, pharmacy, wine merchant, local farm stand, hardware store, and restaurants ranging from comfy to classy. To the city, the bus from Rosendale takes 90 minutes.
