About this property
Midcentury Modern Cabin Home in the Woods- Under 2 Hrs From NYC!
Welcome to your architectural Midcentury Modern oasis in the woods. This unique home with cathedral ceilings was built by an architect in 1960 for his personal use and makes for the ideal mountain getaway. A dramatic wall of windows overlooks the woods of the Shawangunk Mountains with striking ice-age sandstone and shale boulders throughout the property. Enjoy your coffee, scenery, and tranquility in the vaulted living room or on the upper balcony off the bedroom, the architect’s own private retreat. Hidden from the road, the house is a cedar and teak construction both inside and out set among four private acres of woods and rock outcroppings. It features: • Two spacious bedrooms with king size beds, one of which is a loft facing the front wall of windows. • A third spacious sleeping/media room down on the lower level with pullout couch and futon, both for sleeping. • Three full bathrooms. • A modern, open plan kitchen with a dishwasher. • A large dining alcove surrounded by ship-like windows with views to the surrounding forest. • An immense stone fireplace perfect for a fire on cold and winter nights. The crowning jewel is the vaulted living room which is centered around the elongated fireplace and soaring rows of windows which allow light in from the south and west. For younger guests (or the young at heart!), the property features two tree houses built by the architect in the backyard, as well as a swing set for children. Additional amenities include: Nest controlled AC/heating system, Wi-Fi, fire logs (provided in fall/winter), plush cotton towels, custom Kiehl’s toiletries, outdoor grill with seating (for 6), washer/dryer, Smart HD TV with Amazon Prime, HBO, Hulu and other streaming channels, and an entertainer’s kitchen. This Midcentury house is located two and a half miles (4km) from the center of New Paltz, with nearby attractions including: • Numerous restaurants, bars, cafes, bookstores, a movie theater, and Water Street Market- a pedestrian shopping village with antique stores, eateries, and the local Denizen Theater. • The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail: a 22-mile (35km) gravel pathway created from a former railroad, extending from Gardiner to Kingston and perfect for strolling, jogging, or biking (rentals nearby). • The Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park, offering countless miles of hiking trails, rock climbing, lakes for swimming, and Awosting Falls. • The celebrated Mohonk Mountain House and Resort, with its spectacular lodge, famous spa, fine dining, and breathtaking view of the Gunk Ridge and Mountains, literally just up the road. • Numerous skiing options, including Hunter and Windham ski resorts in just over an hour's drive, and Sawkill Family Ski Center just 24 miles away (winter). • The Ulster County pool complex (fee is just $5 for adults), a short drive away (summer). • The nearby “Walkway over the Hudson” skybridge, offering breathtaking, unobstructed 360-degree views from 212 feet (64m) over the Hudson River and surrounding scenic valley. This Midcentury house is close to the best the Hudson River Valley has to offer, including: Kingston, with its very popular Stockade and Rondout districts; the towns of Woodstock, Saugerties, and Phoenicia; and across the river, Rhinebeck, Poughkeepsie, Vassar College, and the Culinary Institute of America. For those guests who are commuting from New York City, there is the Trailways bus station in New Paltz which takes you to the city in under two hours, and the express Metro North Hudson line train station in Poughkeepsie, easily reached by car, taxi, or Uber. Please note, we do not rent to anyone under the age of 25 and have a strict 5 adult maximum (6 people total, with one child or 4 adults and two children). This rental is not suitable for very large or party groups (adults should supervise children if staying in the upstairs loft). There are discounts available for 7-day (plus) stays, as well as further discounts for month-long stays.

Was ideal for a weekend away. A very comfortabele area for hanging with friends with great views and natural light, well stocked kitchen for homemade meals, easy access to downtown and other attractions. A perfect getaway and extremely cozy
We had a fantastic stay at the Cabin. It was gorgeous, minimal mid-century modern with everything you needed for a cosy stay. Exactly like the photos. Would recommend! Thank you Sascha.
Fireplace was great. Setting was great. Love the boulders and the woodsy fall atmosphere. The architecture of the house is wonderful. It lets you get great views of the woods. Would definitely stay here again!
It was the perfect home base for a family birthday get away. The home has everything one would need to feel right at home. Gorgeous views of the trees, quiet and just minutes from downtown New Paltz.
Quiet house in the woods, with 2 enormous bedrooms. Downstairs master with plenty of space for two pack-n-plays for our twin toddlers and room to spread out and play. They loved the swing set! Thank you, Sascha, for a wonderful stay!
We came up for a week to participate in The Ride for Mental Health. Great location, comfy house, responsive host. We love the New Paltz area and hope to return to the same house in the fall.
Sascha was very accommodating with our last minute, shortened stay. The house is very spacious and clean for our family of 4 adults. The location was key for us as we spent most of our time at Mohonk Mountain House - only about 10 mins away. Town is also super close for shopping and eating. I highly recommend this house and am hoping to stay longer in the future.
Peaceful and relaxing home in the woods! Very comfortable for two couples, second bedroom was a loft above the living room but felt very private and had it's own full bathroom. Beautiful light coming in through wall of windows!
If you want a real cabin in the woods experience, this is the place for you! It is tucked neatly within trees and boulders! 4 of us enjoyed the home and close location to downtown NEW PALTZ and so much beauty! Sasha and his team were very quick to respond to any questions, which were all easily answered. A great place!
Great comfortable home with all the amenities we could have asked for! Loved the games there to entertain us and the vestigial fireplace to relax at at night. Close by to area hiking and short drive into town!
We absolutely LOVED the house. It was a mid-century modern dream and we really hope to come back. It is a gorgeous home, looks just like the pictures, with plenty of privacy and surrounding space. A true hidden gem. We loved having coffee on the porch and seeing the trees from the living room, and it's such a short drive to downtown New Paltz. My only recommendation is to remember to bring an eye mask as the windows and skylight keep the rooms pretty bright in the mornings.

I am a Brooklyn-based real estate agent who specializes in houses and is married to my husband and we have a 7-year old daughter. We love our 1959 midcentury cabin and sharing the outdoors, fresh air, and multitude of activities that the Hudson Valley offers with our guests.
Why they chose this property
We bought this midcentury "cabin" (house) sight unseen, as we were immediately captivated by the windows, the setting among the trees and enormous rocks, and the beautiful architecture, designed by an architect for himself.
What makes this property unique
This "cabin" will offer a peaceful calming getaway from city life among the woods and impressive rocks of the Gunks Mountains. It presents stunning light and beautiful wood architecture and a chance to be inside while glancing out at gorgeous nature. It aslo has all of the conveniences of modern living and is conveniently located a stone's throw from the town of New Paltz and all of the amenities one might need.
