About this property

Spacious converted rural barn. Sea views, large grounds, family & pet friendly.

Swallow Barn is a home away from home, with everything you need to make your holiday relaxing, fun and memorable. The property was converted by the family in 2002 and since 2016 has been running as a successful holiday let. The family have been involved in holiday letting in this area for over 30 years so we have a team of highly experienced people in place to make sure that the property is maintained to high standards and guests are well looked after so they can enjoy a hassle free holiday. The property is private with landscaped grounds surrounded by pastures, but close enough to walk into the nearby village of Fishguard, the famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and local cycle way which is just at the end of the driveway. Although set back down a long driveway, there is some traffic noise from the A40. For dog owners, this is a paradise with a secure garden at the rear of the Cottage.

You can feel the happy energy of Swallow Barn when you walk through the door. It is a place of celebration and good times! There is plenty of space, inside and out, for everyone, so you can be part of the activity or find a peaceful little nook all to yourself. The property is equipped to cater for big groups with a well stocked kitchen, huge farmhouse dining table, and outside areas for lazy lunches and late night dinners. There are plenty of comfy sofas to snuggle into, enough space for a game of outdoor cricket and an outside storage building for your bikes, kayaks, surfboard and other sporty paraphernalia.

There is an adjoining Cottage to the main residence which can be used as part of the main house (via a lockable door) or as separate accommodation with its own front and rear entrances, separate secure garden and parking area.

Swallow Barn is a place of character with lots of quirkiness; an artisan spiral staircase to the mezzanine, a hand mast cast iron balcony in the kitchen, a claw foot roll top bath, a pretty cushioned daybed, an outdoor terrace of local river pebbles, rustic Welsh slate kitchen bench tops, exposed timber beams and local stone interior walls. French windows open out from all the reception rooms onto the garden and the outside wrap around wooden deck with modern lounge furniture is perfect for entertaining, having a BBQ (provided) or sipping sunset cocktails.

The local area has an abundance of things to do. The Cycle Way is just at the end of the driveway and if you prefer to go on foot, it is only a short walk to the famous coastal path. There are surf beaches, pebbly pirate coves, ruined castles, historical sites and almost every type of sport available locally including one of Britains best surf beaches!

The local produce is wonderful! Pick your own mussels from the beaches or head to one of the local pubs to savour the famous Pembrokeshire crab and lobster dishes. Stroll around the local farmers markets at the weekend, grab a gourmet picnic and top notch coffee from the local deli or cook up local Welsh lamb on the BBQ. If high end gourmet dining is on your agenda, there are plenty of fabulous restaurants within driving distance.

We love Swallow Barn and are so happy to be able to share the experience of staying there with you!

Our Holiday at Swallow Barn
Although the actual property was amazing, there were so many ornaments and knick-knacks, it would be impossible to clean properly between bookings. which results in a lot of cobwebs. Although my grown up kids didn't mind about the bed linen being rough dried, I did. The garden was very exciting for the children to play. On the whole, we had a brilliant holiday and loved Pembrokeshire. WB

Fantastic property for a holiday with family and friends
Just returned from an amazing week in Pembrokeshire. Swallow Barn was a fantastic base from which to explore this beautiful part of the country. It was one of the hottest weeks of the year and we enjoyed its sunny position from the early morning through to the stunning evening sunsets. It was perfectly set up and equipped for a large group of family and friends.

I am 100% Welsh and super proud of it. My family is originally from North Wales, but almost 30 years ago my mother moved to Fishguard and introduced us all to the special charm of this quaint coastal village and the Pembrokeshire way of life (very relaxing!) We all fell in love with the natural beauty and energy of this incredible peninsular. My sister and her husband have also owned another local property for many years and we all have treasured memories of happy times spent with family and friends, offspring and dogs on the beaches and walks in this beautiful part of the world. For us, there is nowhere better in the UK than Fishguard. It is the undiscovered Cornwall, offering authenticity and a less touristy option for holiday travellers to explore. Swallow Barn will continues to be our holiday of choice for a fun filled and relaxing holiday, and we love that we can share that with others.

Why they chose this property

My family had been living in the area for almost a decade before discovering Swallow Barn, a derelict but beautiful stone barn with outbuildings, set back from the road amongst green pastures, situated in an elevated position enjoying distant sea views, about a mile to the south-west of the popular fishing town of Fishguard. Plans were created to preserve and restore every possible original feature, to create a stylish and spacious home that maintains its original character, whilst offering comfort and all the features of modern living. With vaulted ceilings, exposed A frame wooden beams and giant cathedral windows, the interior of the barn is majestic and spacious, with the original walls of Welsh quarried stone giving the whole house a warmth and grounded feel. A huge feature stone and brick fireplace with a wood burner in the main living area, plus underfloor heating, keep the place snug and cosy even on the coldest winter night. Skylights and lime washed timber flooring upstairs, create light and airy bedrooms spaces with private views across the garden and fields to the sea beyond. There are character quirks of architecture and design everywhere; an artisan spiral staircase to the mezzanine, a hand made cast iron balcony in the kitchen featuring swallows in the design; a claw foot roll top bath, a pretty cushioned built in day bed, an outdoor terrace of local river pebbles, rustic Welsh slate kitchen bench tops. French windows open out from all reception rooms onto the garden and outside wooden deck which is perfect for entertaining, a BBQ or sipping sunset cocktails. Swallow Barn and Cottage have been a much loved family home for many years and now we feel honoured to share it with you! May 2016 was the first time the property was offered for holiday letting, and we undertook a full refurbishment so all visitors to this beautiful property are offered accomodation and facilities of a high standard.

What makes this property unique

Swallow Barn and Cottage have seen so many good times as a lived in family home, with joyous celebrations and contented every day living creating a wonderful happy energy that can immediately be felt when you walk in through the door. It is a place where everyone can feel at home, with plenty of space, inside and out, so you can be part of the crowd or find a little nook on your own for a bit of peace and quiet. The property is equipped to cater for big parties of friends or family with long refectory style tables for lazy lunches and late night dinners, comfy sofas to mooch in, enough space for a game of outdoor cricket and an outside storage building for bikes, kayaks, surfboards and other sporty paraphernalia! There is a cottage attached to the main residence which can be used as part of the main house (via a lockable door) or as separate accommodation with its own front and rear entrances, separate garden and parking area.
