CLIFDEN TOWN

Clifden town is the capital of Connemara one of the most scenic regions in Ireland. Established in the early 1800’s at Clifden Bay, it follows the classic 19th century layout: oval in plan, with 3 principal streets – Market Street, Main Street and Bridge Street, a Market Square, a fine bridewell or gaol, courthouse and harbour.

Clifden today is a vibrant and cultural town which has retained its historic roots while offering a wide range of services and facilities. You will find colourful streets with a great selection of small local food shops – (fishmongers, butchers, fruit and vegetable store, delicatessens and a bakery), numerous craft and gift shops, art galleries and exhibitions and other interesting shops including antique shops, designer clothes shops, jewellery and vintage shops.

There are 9 restaurants and 10 pubs with music sessions each evening and good bar food. On the practical side there are four supermarkets, including Aldi and Lidl, which are open until 9pm (mon-sat), two banks, three chemists, two petrol stations, two churches and a post office.

Set on the edge of the Atlantic, the surrounding scenery is spectacular, and waiting to be discovered.

CONNEMARA

A vast coastal region world renowned for its wild and stunning scenery, and magical light. It is dotted with small villages and historical sites. To the north is stretches to the border of Mayo and the town of Westport is 45 mins., drive from Clifden.
To the east it reaches to Galway city, which is one hour's drive from Clifden and well worth a visit. To the south is the Connemara Gaelteacht area- an Irish speaking area which is famous for its coral strands.

The area is a walker’s paradise whether following a planned route or just ambling along country roads and beaches, of which there are many. Why they chose this property

A recent TAdvisor review August 2022
Gemma H

One of a Kind
It is hard to put into words the experience we had in Sunnybank House. A group of 19 of us stayed for a week in August to celebrate an intimate wedding and it was everything we could have wished for and more. The house is excellently equipped for large groups- every room has its own en-suite which is a major plus. As large as the house is, it still manages to be cosy and oozes that ‘home from home’ feeling. Between the pool, the 3 minute walk to the town and the entire atmosphere around the area I would highly recommend Sunnybank House if you are looking for that extra special experience. We will never forget the warm welcome, help and hospitality we received from the owners Shane and Racheal, and of course Paula who went above and beyond guiding us with any queries we had. Sunnybank will forever be a very fond memory for us as a family. Thank you for the experience.

What makes this property unique

From a recent TAdvisor review, which list 10 great things about Sunnybank House
Best house and stay in western Ireland
I have read many reviews on this house, so I will try to be brief but different. Here are my top ten reasons to rent this house: 1. The pool - it is very rare to have a pool in Ireland and you may not think that you need one, but this was a lifesaver for us! After we spent all day exploring it was so nice to come back to the house and let the pool entertain the kids (so we tired people didn't have to)! 2. Every room has its own bathroom -3. Loved all the small nooks in the house - we were never on top of each other and we loved that 4. The outdoor areas - the private gardens (at least 3 or 4) were stunning! (overlooking the town) and by the pool. We loved sitting outside each night with a glass of wine and enjoying the landscape. 5. The herbs from the garden - 6. The hosts - 7. The soaps and shampoos - very high quality! . 8. Peat for the fires 9. The kitchen/wash room - the kitchen had everything we needed - including the ability to make multiple meals at the same time for picky kids. All of the knives were sharpened and the utilities worked great - no complaints! We especially loved that we could do multiple loads of laundry at the same time - no fighting for machines! 10. Location is EVERYTHING. Clifden is so much fun,it is the perfect base to enjoy the most beautiful parts of Ireland and then come back, enjoy the multiple restaurants and pubs without having to worry about driving. The kids all walked into town by themselves (older kids) and they loved having the opportunity to explore. The people we met were so nice and many places had live music each night. Food was incredible - we couldn't have asked for a nicer place to come back to!! I will recommend this place to all that wish to travel to this part of the country - worth every single cent we spent! Hope you and your family get to enjoy this gem of a house as well!
