About this property
Casale Fonteluccia - Two Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 4
Accommodation: Kitchen/breakfast room (oven, microwave, dishwasher). Living room (A/C, TV, DVD, WiFi). Double bedroom (A/C, continental bed) with en suite shower room. Twin bedroom (A/C). Bathroom (half bath, separate shower, washing machine). Central heating throughout the house (payable locally). Air conditioning is payable locally. Outside: Shaded dining area. In built barbecue. Table tennis. Lawns with olive and fir trees. Shower. Dining terrace. Private parking. Private swimming pool (10m x 4m) with Roman steps. The pool area has a gated access.
Location, location, location: the beautiful medieval hilltop town of Cortona is the stunning backdrop for this lovely Tuscan semi-detached cottage sitting in spacious, well maintained gardens on the foothills below the town. Looking out over olive groves on one side and up to the imposing town walls on the other, Fonteluccia enjoys not only a picturesque setting but is also within walking distance (800m uphill) to Cortona itself.
An ideal base for a family or couple, the front of the house is adorned with colourful flower pots with the swimming pool placed close by on a raised, grassy plateau in a perfect position to make the most of the marvellous views. There is also a dining terrace to the rear of the property, ideal for lunch or dinner and, in particular, watching the sun setting over the hills in the distance.
Inside, the décor is simple and welcoming in traditional Tuscan style. Air conditioning and an en suite shower room have recently been added. There is a beautiful view to admire from virtually every window in the house - either out over the olive groves, across open Tuscan farmland, or uphill to the spire of Cortona cathedral peeping out above the ramparts.
It is 800m uphill to the town itself and some of the most famous vistas in Tuscany. The panorama from the Piazzale Garibaldi on the south-eastern edge of the old walled city encompasses not only a large part of Tuscany, but also out to beyond Lake Trasimeno in Umbria.
Whilst the very fabric of Cortona has changed little since the Middle Ages, particularly its eastern section where you will find narrow cobbled streets, small fields and orchards, today the historic centre is filled with a wide selection of restaurants, food shops and interesting boutiques. Whether it is a morning spent strolling through the streets, a cafe lunch overlooking the piazza or dinner under the stars, we are in no doubt that the allure of Cortona will hold firm. Further afield, Perugia is 48km and Florence 85km, both easily reached by car or train.
The twin single beds can be locked together to become a double. Please advise at the time of booking. Air conditioning is payable locally, according to usage. The right hand side of Fonteluccia is a separate dwelling which is permanently occupied. The owner's cottage is also within the grounds. Neither use any of Fonteluccia's facilities and your privacy is respected. Please note: the price shown does not include a tourist tax of approx. €10 per person (payable locally). Children under 12 are exempt.
