About this property

Lochside Glamour: Harriet's Lodestar Lodge with Private Dock on Seaside Estate

Named after Harriet Tubman, our eternal heroine, for using the nightsky to lead her way to freedom, this lodge is an enticing retreat to dream the day away while planning brave endeavours.

The livingroom features a golden velvet sofa and art deco mirrors. An Eames-inspired armchair creates an additional reading nook by the window. The entire living area is covered in a restored Iranian hand-woven wool rug. The kitchen has a dine-in area with acrylic Louis XV chairs, all with reclaimed egineered hardwood floor.

The downstairs bedroom contains a trundle bed with thick Orthopedic mattress and a memory foam topper. This trundle bed can be converted into two single beds as required. Alternatively this bedroom can be used as another lounge or dedicated workspace. A full en-suite bathroom with rain shower is also in the downstairs bedroom.

The second bedroom takes up the entire top floor. Here you'll find pale lemon walls with a Boticelli-inspired headboard, in the shape of a seashell. An exceptionally comfortable king size bed awaits you, with meadowland mural to evoke dreams of rambles. A contained bathroom features a rainshower and in-room basin.

Just a few steps from the patio outside Harriet's Lodestar is Dunskey's Upper Loch. Here you'll discover a private dock for you with outdoor table and chair. It is a perfect spot to take morning coffee, or practice yoga with the swans peeking at you in the distance.

Lovely isolated stay - Good for a Getaway
We stayed here as a family of 4 with 2 teenage children. The property is very clean and has a great and well equipped kitchen. There are 2 excellent sized showers and 2 toilets. Lovely welcome pack and great food storage for fresh and frozen. Parking is excellent and we enjoyed the grounds. It’s lovely and quiet with a lot of nature! The road by the house is not too busy, and the property is not far from Portpatrick, a quiet town. Good access by car to a few local beaches and a good location for going running. Great parking of course and we enjoyed the food bought from the estate too.

We are a small but mighty team with our hearts set on sharing with you the most glorious hidden gem in this rural corner of Scotland: Dunskey, a 2000-acre estate by the sea, where world-class heritage meets modern splendour, surrounded by secret gardens and endless wonders. Everything we do is rooted in our three values: compassion, innovation, and transformation. We strongly believe that the first steps towards spectacular hospitality is taking care of our team and environments. Here, you'll meet the incredible Dunskey stewards who sincerely wish to share with you the joy, beauty, and warmth in all that we do. Most significantly, you will find extraordinary thoughtfulness in every moment of your journey here. We are also a feministic company with a laser focus on sustainability. We use re-fillable products wherever possible. Our heating system is nearly at 100% sourced from renewable energy. We compost 100% of our food waste, and our water comes from a fresh spring. We continuously strive to do more and do better. Our ongoing other projects include policy advocacy in immigration and anti-human trafficking, working on turning out the votes in America and fighting against voter suppression laws. Seeking social and racial justice is a constant, though sometimes painful, anchor in our lives. We would like everyone to read the two novels, The Overstory, by Richard Powers, and, Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson. When not heartened by the possibility of collective action to address climate change, we like to cook a ton-load of Vietnamese beef noodle soup and plot the next magic mushroom trail on the Estate.

Why they chose this property

At Dunskey Estate you will find a little bit of everything. Beaches, forests, waterfalls, coastal walks along stunning cliffs, two lochs with boating and fishing, a fairy door trail, our own private botanical garden, a maze, numerous hikes, and plenty of nature. Neighbouring the estate is the picturesque village of Portpatrick with a golf course, tennis courts, pubs and restaurants. This often-forgotten part of Scotland is perhaps the best-kept secret and one of the most beautiful parts of the Country.

What makes this property unique

You're not simply staying in a Castle Estate: you are staying on one of the most beautiful spots on the planet. Dunskey Estate boasts two waterfalls, two lochs, and three beaches, with the most magnificent walks along the craggy Scottish coastline. This pleasure ground will be completely yours to explored, including a private walled garden and a maze. You will have the time of your life, I promise. The walled garden with its glass house is a romantic and peaceful retreat on the estate. Two lochs nestle into the hills and rhododendron banks. Wander along the glen walk past a rushing waterfall, and a babbling brook, to the two beaches to spot dolphins and seals. Dunskey Golf Course and the picturesque Portpatrick Harbour is two minutes away. Fishing expeditions from the beaches or on our two lochs are available. Pheasant shooting and deer stalking are also available upon request. Portpatrick Village has a public tennis court, putting green, golf course, beaches, and many restaurants. It is a very family-friendly destination.
